    Changing words with the translation file is best practice, so you haven’t to modify anything in a core file.

    If you want to modify template files, you do that with a child-theme and by respecting the same directory structure as in bp-legacy/buddypress/…/file_name.php:

    wp-content/themes/your_child_theme/buddypress/…/file_name.php

    1000 times explained and detailed on this forum and documented on Codex.

    sorry to reply this, but all answers to your query are in the links i provided.

    i have buddypress who put his scripts not to the footer (wtf ??)

    perhaps because BP devs consider it is not necessary ? 😉
    If you think it is dummy practice or better to get anything to footer by default, open a ticket and provide some patches. Maybe you can than discuss directly with a dev around the pro and contra for footer scripts.

    I’m not familiar with japanese, sorry. But it could be possible that .ja uses
    1) another plural form (the one in the example is for fr and some other occidental languages)
    2) another charset as utf8

    Read on WordPress Codex where you find more information arond these settings.

    Additionaly you can also get in contact with the japanese WP translation team, for better guidance for this very specifif problem or ask for that on the WPpolyglot blog.

    the best, fastest and easiest way to check for a word used in buddypress is to open the pot file, where you find it aside the file(s) and line number where it is used.

    Why do you want to do this ? 😉
    Adding js to footer maybe best practice, but is intended for heavy scripts. So be carefull before modifying buddypress. If you have load time issues or if you consider your site to slow, first trackdown the culprit. In most case, it is only because of to many or bad written plugins on a poor server.

    hi @webberater,

    > when a user wants to upload a photo

    from where exactly ?
    Have you special user rights, privacy plugin or something else around restriction ?

    Which theme do you use ? Maybe a site url ?

    bp-languages folder is removed since 2.1
    Translations are from now on automatically uploaded from GlotPress, like the WP translation.

    Aside this improvement, they are some little bugs, but nothing crucial, which will probably sbe olved in 2.1.1

    @danbp

    Have you allowed user comments on blog and forums in the bp settings ?

    @danbp

    The best thing to do first is to ask the author on the plugin support. BP Like is still in beta, so don’t be to disapointed if it doesn’t work correctly.
    If you have trouble with this plugin on a local install, you certainly have not to use it on prod. 😉

    @oshimamasara7,

    I translated buddypress.pot from English to Japanese.(about 80%)

    Guess you translated the wrong file.
    Must be buddypress.po, not buddypress.pot. And you have to compile the po file into mo.

    In the header information, they’re missing keywords. You have only
    “X-Poedit-KeywordsList: _;_;_e\n”

    Should be
    “X-Poedit-KeywordsList: __;_e;__ngettext:1,2;_n:1,2;__ngettext_noop:1,2;”
    “_n_noop:1,2;_c,_nc:4c,1,2;_x:1,2c;_nx:4c,1,2;_nx_noop:4c,1,2;_ex:1,2c;”
    “esc_attr__;esc_attr_e;esc_attr_x:1,2c;esc_html__;esc_html_e;esc_html_x:1,2c\n”

    1. Rename the file to buddypress-ja.po
    2. Add the above keywordlist manually, with a text editor.
    3. Open the file with poEdit and run “update” from source or from a blank pot file (yours contain a translation, you’ll have to get a new virgin copy)
    4. Translate !

    @walshfilho,

    to get buddypress menus, go to dashboard > apparence > menus and open screen options (top right corner) and check buddypress.

    If you can’t edit the theme, try to deactivate BR language in wp settings for english and see if it helps.

    Thank you for the information.
    I removed the dead link from codex page.

    Feel free to add your own tip or how-to to the codex. Anybody can contribute to it !

    @mcpeanut,

    apologize if i don’t remember what i answered to you when i’m answering to somebody else in a different topic.

    I can’t answer in name of the devs, but i can tell you that i’m testing on a fresh vanilla install mostly everything before answering or giving some advice here. And if i’m (we’re) asking for theme name, it is to use it eventually to reproduce an issue to the closest of the user environment.

    As BP contributor, i’m also using a trunk install and i’m pretty sure that any dev do the same.
    Aside, i have several other install, locally and online, with different themes and plugin.

    About SWA now or group activities.
    By default, BP allows users to comment almost each activity type. But every site doesn’t need to use this oportunity.

    By default, the load more button paginates the content after 50 activities, and also by default, an activity feed can be very long if you use “load more” till the end of your activities history.

    If you haven’t receive the answer you expected, it’s because the described issue is not a issue, but how it works globally. And if you consider that your comments should be nested or hidden with a toggle button, you can add it. Understand also that it is not a default feature. It maybe annoying for YOUR project, and absolutely uninteresting for others. C’est la vie ! And in any case you’re free to use and tweak BP to your convenience.

    Another important thing is that status updates are not topics or treads, but firstly thinked for short messages to others. That is also the reason why you have no text editor for activity comments.

    Using status updates for conversations maybe convenient in groups, when not using a group forum. And even in this case, the activity layout and the possible length of answers can rapidly bring to reading difficulties. A little inconvenient that explain the success of P2 theme, imho.

    Personally i prefer to open a group forum, if group members are great talker, as let them spill over an cheap ajaxified textarea between many other unrelated activity stuff.

    There is no ideal handling (meaning adaptable to each case) of such by default. BP is made for the most common general usage first, but fortunately comes with hundreds of filters and hooks who let each owner add and remove what he want. All these had to be customized and tailored for each project.

    Ask the age instead of date of birth !

    Your age: [ ] text-filed numeric type

    else you have to code it yourself. Some answers here.

    @fumow,

    Do you use latest bp version ? What is the theme you use ?
    Also give details around your issue. Which comments are concerned by the issue described over 1 year ago (bp 1.8 – 1.9 stage), as many things changed since that version….

    In reply to: Can not post updates

    @danbp

    Seems to be a theme related issue.
    this premium theme requires buddypress template pack.

    If it worked before BP 2.1 and WP 4.0 updates, you have to ask on the theme support or try some guidance from the Codex.

    please don’t jump into others threads if you’re not concerned by “Problem on one server/host only” Or at least give details about YOUR issue, bp version and used theme.
    Preferably open a new topic and give details.
    Thank you.

    @msgliniewicz, @nexus66

    is not a feature to ask for and is already existing.

    @msgliniewicz, if you want to remove your theme login part, see your theme support or documentation first. Generally, this is made by creating a child theme, from where you can remove in a safe way the whole html concerning the login part.

    Reminder

    1. WordPress is the heart of your install. In any case.
    2. BuddyPress is only a plugin
    3. You can use any theme you want to get WP and BP showing

    Site login

    1. WordPress is the only one who manage logins and comes with a login widget.
    2. BuddyPress add xprofile (if enabled) to the WP login form. In other words, BP extend the WP login form and give you the ability to use it’s own login widget.
    3. Your theme can also come with a login widget.

    But there is only one login logic: username | password | login/logout | and sometimes additionnal tools like Remeber me and/or Forgot your password ?

    This means that you can use the WP login widget, or the BP login widget or your theme login widget. The only thing you have to do is to activate ONLY(preferably) one of these widget and to stay clear and logic with yourself.

    • If you use BP, choose preferably BuddyPress tools to show the plugin.
    • If you want to promote a mega super genius awesome responsive coffe delivering theme over anything else installed on your site, use the theme tools.

    In this case, remind to checkout any conflict possibility between such a theme and any of your plugins, even BP.

    @reinforcez,

    the link given by @drakedoc was started over 4 years. Many solutions are given in this thread, and the last one was published a year ago.

    That solution works for 1.9 and above !

    /* Skip the Gravatar check when using a default BP avatar */
    add_filter( 'bp_core_fetch_avatar_no_grav', '__return_true' );

    By the way you have also to modify the global WP setting of avatars to “mystery man” or “nothing”.

    Another solution to avoid gravatars slowing down a big site (at least > 500 members), is to use a specific cache plugin like Nix Gravatar Cache. Complete list here.

    you can use the action hook to introduce some static text or even other content.

    For ex. in activity-loop.php, there is do_action( 'bp_before_activity_loop' ); at the begin of the file.

    How to use an existing action hook ?

    • Write a function and add it to the existing hook.

    Such custom function are added to child-theme functions.php or into bp-custom.php. Of course, each function should also have a unique name or you get the sky over your head.

    function spielwiese() {
    echo '<h3>Hallo Sportsfreunde !</h3>';
    }
    add_action ( 'bp_before_activity_loop', 'spielwiese' );

    This plugin was last tested with BP 1.6…. and is retired from wp repository.
