In reply to: BuddyPress Roles and Capabilities
Are you talking about changing the group activity stream or the group forums?
In reply to: [Resolved] Notifications BehaviourI think we may have changed/fixed the count behaviour for the upcoming 2.0 release, but I am not sure and can’t test at the moment.
In terms of refreshing the screen causing the count to clear. It depends on what screen you’re refreshing and what type of notification you’re looking at, but generally speaking, yes this is intended.

In reply to: Problem: Invalid Activation KeyAlso closing this in favour of your original thread at https://buddypress.org/support/topic/new-user-registration-problem-invalid-activation-key/
@henrywright — BuddyPress doesn’t use WP roles or caps anywhere much yet, so giving
edit_userswon’t help.In reply to: Problem: Invalid Activation KeyCalling out the core team of contributors or forum moderators is never likely to work at getting attention. We’re all busy and put as much time into the forums as possible for answering questions. 🙂
The invalid activation bug comes up every so often. Last I knew, we’ve not been able to track down why it sometimes doesn’t work.
In reply to: Problem: Users can not upload large filesHow do you know the problem is related to file size? Can mobile users upload small images?
In reply to: Customize Profile TabsHopefully one day we can get this easy by making all the sub-nav tabs appear in the Appearance > Menus builder. Maybe for 2.1 🙂
In reply to: BuddyPress Roles and CapabilitiesBuddyPress doesn’t currently user WordPress’ roles/capabilities systems. I haven’t looked at the code in while, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be challenging to either add a new “role” or change the behaviours that are currently assigned to Group Mods/Admins/Members.
It’s probably something relatively niche so I’d be pleasantly surprised if someone comes along with a readymade solution. I think you/someone is going to have to dive into the code and see what’s possible.
In reply to: How to create roles and capabilities for user roles@siteshack — do NOT create duplicate topics. You’ve already posted this here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-roles-and-capabilities/
Yep, we’ll fix it up today.
In reply to: Topic Creating problem in BuddyPress.orgI think it’s an odd caching problem. I wouldn’t worry too much.
In reply to: WordPress in it’s Own Directory for BP2.0?Er. I’m not sure this is a valid WordPress setup?
How exactly does BuddyPress not work with this at the moment? Does everything else work fine, including blog permalinks?
In reply to: Major IssueThis might be related to a theme or another plugin you are running, but your production server shouldn’t be showing PHP Warnings. Your webhost can probably help you stop those showing up.

In reply to: Profile LinkYou can’t put PHP into a text widget. You need to edit one of the template files in your theme add it in. You’ll need to figure out which template contains the part of the theme that you want to add this link next to 🙂
@trishan1000 — you’d need to put that into a PHP template file in your theme, wherever you need it.
I’m going to close this topic as it’s about 4 months old and it’s best to create a new topic if you have a new question. Thank you.
In reply to: Create a group via WP_AdminI don’t know the solution to the question, but I saw your code — don’t call
flush_rules()on every page load. It will seriously slow down your site. You don’t need it at all, since you’re adding the same rule on every page load. (You can go to wp-admin > Settings > Permalinks which will force WP to clear the rewrite rules cache).It looks like you might be using PHP4. WordPress requires PHP5, so ask your host to switch you to the latest version of PHP5 they have available and ask them to remove the open_basedir restrictions.
In reply to: Country / City Conditional FieldsIn reply to: Group admin and mods loops – not workingHave you tried debugging? How far into the loop do you get?
In reply to: private message – not privateHenry asked: “Can you try deactivating all plugins aside from BP to see if the problem persists?”
If you are unable or don’t want to turn of all other plugins, you could look into setting up a clone of the site or a local development environment to make it easier to debug in the future.
We need a list of your theme and all your plugins — while I hope this isn’t a core bug, a common cause of weird behaviour is a badly-written plugin or theme code interfering with the correct behaviour, which is why we need to know more about what you’ve got on your site.
Thanks!
In reply to: [Resolved] Group join dateThis is a good question. I took a look at the code. As far as I can tell, you can safely use this column as a “when did the user join the group” value for most cases. It’s set when:
* A user joins a group
* A user accepts or declines an invite to join a group
* When a user creates a groupPromoting/demoting a user to moderator/administrator/regular member doesn’t change the value.
Note that this column isn’t indexed. This is only a consideration if for whatever reason you need to write your own SQL queries, which you shouldn’t need to. If you can’t find a core function that gets the data you need, it would be great if you can let me know here or on https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ and we can add one.
