    That has been advised two posts up, please re-read and read the links. Creating a custom file named buddypress.php which is a copy of your themes page.php file will allow you to modify the markup directly so you can specify named get_sidebar() calls to include a new sidebar template file for BP screens only, however bear in mind how your theme deals with sidebar files and dynamic sidebars(widget calls) is something we have no knowledge of.

    BP is just a plugin running under WP, WP handles users/registration. You need to create Users not members first so you’ll need to run up a little script to import the .csv file using fgetcsv() into an array then use that to loop over and set values to add for a user with the function wp_insert_user().

    BP recognises members when a user logs, in until that point you will have no populated members list, BP looks to usermeta key ‘last_activity’ to see if there is a value so you can, as your looping and setting a new user, then also set ‘last_activity with the php date function and a pause between each itteration so you get a unique time stamp for each (not that that’s vital)

    // edit: beaten to it!
    You must determine if it’s the theme or not; this is done by reverting to a theme we know works with BP and those are any of the WP default series, ‘Twentytwelve’, ‘twentythirteen’. I’m afraid that nine times out of ten things will be a theme issue but also might be pluging related so ensure you disable all non essential plugins.

    One last thing to consider is whether the various BP components are activated, so visit the BP settings screens and check what is activated.

    Firstly did you not read the sticky post ‘getting help’ ? in that is a bullet point list of information it’s useful to provide (not all necessarily essential) I have also just updated that post with basic troubleshooting steps that everyone overlooks and which we end up repeating again & again. many issues are third party theme related so the most important step is enabling a known good theme e.g ‘twentythirteen’ then check plugins.

    Looking over your posts I don’t see any current ones more then 20 hours old. We ask that people wait 24 hours before bumping posts to gain attention, and also we are just coming out of a weekend so things will be slower and all help here is on a voluntary basis.

    Post titles on tech forums: Please ensure title threads are descriptive of the issue not a generic cry for help, yes we’re aware there’s an issue, so titles like ‘please help, not working’ won’t gain much attention as ones stating what sort of issue is occurring.

    Cheers for the vote of thanks to all those that plough hours of their time into providing you with free software to use, it’s most generous of you. As to the question learn a little about the software you’re using as you’ll find you won’t need to waste time asking questions on how to remove a simple piece of hardcoded markup.

    Please start a new thread rather than pulling up very old ones where you’re unlikely to get a response.

    |I fear that my BP developer may have broken something during the last customization.

    If you think that then ask them to investigate what’s happened, that is the normal course of events.

    | I do not know code, so please give provide lots of details.

    we can’t really ‘fix’ things for you without a significant amount of detail, and as BP has no issues this is likely the usual story of third party custom themes messing up or a errent plugin. You’ll need to test for those potential issues by reverting to a theme known to have no issues such as WP twentythirteen, and / or deactivating all plugins , re-activating one by one until the issue manifests itself again.

    Have you followed @shanebp advice? it’s important to establish the cause of this and that means as suggested starting to look through your server log files – essentially all the answers you need or at least the clues to where to look further will be in log files. We can’t do this for you or provide much more by way of help until that’s done as well as ensuring you have performed a deactivation of all plugins to try and narrow things down.

    As for this being a BP issue it’s not, BP does not have an issue like this it’s something doing this that interacts with BP.

    Removing files at this point isn’t advisable, it’s curing the symptoms not the disease, however if it prevents the server crash in the shorterm while you investigate the true cause of this then go ahead but with the proviso that the root cause must be established and dealt with.

    I don’t think the original intention was to display a live example of a forum topic view, it certainly shouldn’t be. I have adjusted that page entry to properly display the example shortcode rather than have the page actually parse the shortcode; however yes the link directly below directs you to the bbPress codex for examples of all the shortcodes available.

    Please don’t post duplicate questions, once is sufficient.

    Add new page where, and for what? Remember this is BuddyPress help, an inability to add new pages is more a wordpress issue and would be better asked on their help forum.

    If you want help you will need to be much more detailed in your request. Provide information such as theme in use, versions, explanation of exactly what you mean by ‘alert’ box, reference it to something literal, and ensure you are feeing to BP functionality and not a theme or third party plugin..

    Please don’t open duplicate threads, you have one running and a response.

    Closing this post.

    N.B The reason for the response you got on your initial posting is that your asking for quite a lot of ‘functionality’ and some moves into developer expertise rather than providing explanations on how to do something, also requesting ‘detailed’ descriptions is a little off on a volunteer help forum, people will help and give advise where they can and to the depth they are able, but be patient s it is the weekend 🙂

    Think you are, but not quite sure what to suggest, but using options table is a possibility? But even then you have to remember that the page doesn’t really exist or at least technically you only have one template file to add logic to, although you can extend that with the additions made to template hierarchy in 1.8.

    You possibly need to be targeting filters at the content based on a page check perhaps in combo with a series of option values?

    @hnla

    sorry extended my response above.

    You may need to explain why you want or need post_meta for a bp page, there wouldn’t be any would there?

    @hnla

    Participant

    What’s the problem?

    BP pages are not strictly posts they use the_content() to simply pass through BP data, they are a sort of faux post.

    Why do you need a class there, there are plenty of class tokens to hook onto.

    @hnla

    Think really you will tend to just confuse things if trying to tell WP that your index page should show a page that ordinarily isn’t viewable if logged in, for me BP seems to default to selecting ‘members’ when logged in. Personally speaking I prefer the notion of staying with index.php or home.php as the main page customizing as required rather than ever defaulting reading to a BP page, if necessary doing a conditional logged in check to call in register form as template part?

    ? Call your own functions.php overload the bp class or as mentioned please open a trac ticket if you believe this is an issue, as the matter will receive attention there whereas on the support forum it won’t necessarily.

    @hnla

    Participant

    No you start with the theme authors as themes play the most significant part, BP works just fine with WP default theme series.

    I would remove that login from public view you may also want to ensure the pass is changed. Best not to leave site access unless requested by someone.

    @keiser-media As mentioned above please update the ticket then. The forum isn’t the place for this kind of thing, it won’t necessarily come to the attention of the core devs whereas tickets will do, also anyone is welcome to provide patches to help the project along.

    In reply to: Layout is to narrow

    @hnla

    Participant

    @proculinar
    Your theme sets a very narrow width for a generic instance of ‘article.post’ it later changes that to be wider if a single post or page class is on the body tag, this isn’t ideal!

    You will need to add a ruleset like this:

    .buddypress article.post {width: 100%;}

    Try and locate that after the other article.post rulesets which are somewhere around the approx lines 250 or thereabouts.
