    Ah oh, slightly harder possibly, try checking through the available tags though, something is probably achievable that is simpler than your initial attempt.

    πŸ™‚ did you check the BP codex before embarking on above?

    The docs is first port of call, we attempt to document as much as possible there on an ongoing basis, some pages are undergoing re-freshing & updating but still provide useful reference like this page:

    Template Tag Reference

    Where you might try bp_is_directory()

    Or scan through bp-core-template.php in the core files where you’ll find reference to: bp_is_members_directory()

    which actually is a very simple check to see if !bp_is_user() && bp_is_members_component() the difference remaining can only be the members main directory.

    Generally BP is well specified for template tags and ‘is’ function checks.

    Yep we thank r-a-y for his due diligence on the mater and for patching WP core, which was committed a few days back so will roll out with next WP version.

    Closing this thread as resolved then.

    > and it must NOT be compulsory to join the group for the public groups. Why can’t this be done?
    Perhaps it can be, suggest it on a trac enhancement ticket if you feel that strongly, by default groups need members, BP list participants in a group or at least can track things if people are matched with a group.

    bbP forums is a standalone plugin that ties in to BP due to historical use of forums in groups, but you can create forums outside of BP groups and categorize/nest them but bbP support and documentation better explains how to setup bbPress, although we have a decent guide in our codex too just have a look through the docs πŸ˜‰ but do come back with any questions you might have to doing this if things still not clear.

    What problem? the initial comment is along the right lines Groups require members you can’t post or partake in them unless you join the group, perhaps take up the suggestion to create a forum outside of groups?

    @peter-hamilton Hmm that used always to be the process, updating or posting to a group automatically joined you to the group if it was ‘Public’; The codex may need updating or we may have regressed, I’ll have a delve into that.

    Yes you can create a single members page that exist at say the same level as standard WP pages and into that bring various elements from the user account to create a sort of single user landing page, doing this will depend on how comfortable with coding you are, as you are starting to get into the realms of custom work here.

    BuddyPress certainly is a good fit for many sites along these sorts of lines, but out of the box it can only go so far and has to present a default setup that suits the majority, extending this to provide more custom requirements is possible, but you will need a certain level of skills – the codex is your friend though we have quite a few articles and guides there that will help.

    You need to read the BP codex, documentation should always be your primary port of call first, then you’ll have a better idea of what’s possible and how things work. You can copy BP templates over to your theme and create versions that are full template files – as opposed to the normal template file which as you spotted doesn’t have the header or footer parts as they are injected into standard file e.g page,php –

    Theme Compatibility

    I think though that a better question might be whether it’s possible to address the insecure content issue, rather than just trying to yank out the parts causing the issue.

    You only need a member with the most basic knowledge of css to be workaround that; CSS is not the correct way to ‘remove’ something.

    You should really overload/copy the activity index.php file to your theme or child theme and edit the include line that calls the post-form.php file, and remove it now the main activity directory won’t have the whats new form, same with the members profile in /members/single/activity.php find the include line for the post form and remove.

    Check the codex theme section for guides on working with BP template files and how to correctly overload them to your theme to be able to edit them safely.

    As henrywright says please open a ticket and give as much detail on your theme and the issues your users are having, also please run a test beforehand in a stock WP theme and perhaps one with JS disabled.

    A quick check with ‘Fangs’ didn’t show any obvious issues, the links are there, but that isn’t a particularly detailed test.

    If we can gather as much information and rule out any issues that might be induced by themes or plugins, we will have a look at this aspect as it’s been vaguely on the radar, however quick fixes probably won’t be forthcoming but we may be able to suggest some custom fixes in the interim.

    Have to admit to personally feeling as though the <!-- more --> construct being slightly redundant, do you really need to use it? Could you not use hand crafter excerpts instead to gain control on exactly what your excerpts display?

    Guessing this is the same as this ticket you opened?
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6238

    Probably best to keep to one thread initially rather than opening the question in two separate places, and best to begin with the forum until such time as proven to be a bug and confirmed then a ticket can be raised.

    How were you managing the number of viewed comments?

    @hnla

    Participant

    @pete-hudson No problem, just there’s always the danger of splitting responses across threads and becoming difficult to follow, as it happens the ticket has become perhaps more relevant and necessary so going to suggest we now close this thread and everyone can follow along if they want to on the ticket below

    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6230

    @mikelopez πŸ™‚ np, See ray has a response up following on after your patch submission – which you’ve probably seen notification of – so again think we can close this thread and focus on the trac ticket.

    bp_is_user() returns true for the users profile or account screens so probably won’t work in this instance, you might try is_buddypress() for a more generic check to see if this is a BP page.

    We can’t tell you where to add that though as we simply have no notion of how wishlist is effecting this re-direct, what file, what function etc etc.

    @hnla

    The ‘Member Type’ provision is the beginnings of a deeper api, this initial implementation provides developers the means to register a ‘Type’ which can then be used programatically in functions to filter/sort loops etc, I’m afraid at this stage this is not an aspect of BP designed for non developers, you will need some degree of coding skill to use this.

    > I am not familiar with HTML
    This is more a PHP thing but regardless you’ll need more than basic knowledge in that and html/css to be able to customize your site to this sort of degree.

    At this stage I would suggest approaching the plugin authors of that plugin you had been using and asking if they are producing an update for whatever issue has arisen for their plugin used in conjunction with BP 2.2

    We don’t really have sufficient information to help in any great details, but read this thread and if you’re comfortable editing files follow the suggestion on patching a WP file that r-a-y suggests as this may be the reason you’re having issues.
    https://buddypress.org/support/topic/profile-pages-disappeared-after-upgrade-to-2-2/

    @hnla

    Do as r-a-y says, the fix is committed to WP core so you can – in theory – update the pertinent file with that fix and allow it to be safely overwritten when next version of WP drops, bp_is_user() was the fix I had to employ to correct sites issues before the WP ticket patch was accepted/committed.

    @hnla

    It’s a combination of issues, The main problem lies with WP and has an update to correct is_page() returning true for pages with ID 0 which BP profile pages need to have.

    For the moment to your is_page checks add && ! bp_is_user()

    @hnla

    Glad to hear issue resolved then, the concerns with notifications are another matter so we’ll close this ticket as resolved.

    @hnla

    @r-a-y no I guess I couldn’t get my head around how or why this was happening, get it now, but it’s a pretty horrible issue πŸ™‚

    @hnla

    Participant

    @r-a-y ok well my bad although from recent experience having to work through BP pagination it all seems to originate from same process or WP source and the OP’s issue does sound very similar – not a fun little bit of BP at all!

    @hnla

    Participant

    @r-a-y no there appears to still be some issue, @danbp flagged on a ticket and I can see the same issue on a current trunk install, but haven’t had time to delve further , may not be a BP issue though!

    @hnla

    @rosyteddy you are showing custom elements, this is not bp default view for whats-new posting area, you will need to address styles if you want to get these additional aspects displaying nicely.

    BP its self cannot style for elements that might be added or for styles where it doesn’t know what the theme in use may add, third party plugins will probably add what they think are necessary styles to work with BP default aspects, some better than others – activity plus is a case in point that crudely shoves in it’s links and which are block level displayed so take up the full width of the area pushing anything else down to the next line. Privacy options probably should not be adding any visual style for things like colour but letting the elements inherit the themes colours.

    When posting in future do not expose your server paths like you have, showing your home directory path and name is a security concern – I’m editing it out for you.

    Use FTP or your cpanel file manager to rename BP folder name to force WP to deactivate it on next login attempt that should allow you back in.
