In reply to: version 2.2.0 and is_page() [Resolved]
@r-a-y what tickets and changes are relevant to this issue? I’ve tracked back and through all I can find on is_page() and can’t locate this last change, this may be a bug with WP but I now have an issue with perfectly legitimate is_page & is_singular() checks on screens/CPT’s slugs that have nothing whatsoever to do with BP and manage loading of assets, I now find that those assets are loading on all bp_is_user() screens so even if this is a WP bug it feels like we’ve aided and abetted the problem somehow.
In reply to: How to hide member page from logout users? This is a question for S2 Member then and you should check it’s extensive documentation on how to block pages, if that proves unsuitable for your purposes then check back here and people can point you in the right direction to write custom functions to make pages private.
In reply to: version 2.2.0 and is_page() [Resolved]Yep dumping an is_page(‘about’) on a single group does return true, I would suggest a thorough trawl through tickets for 2.2 to see what might have changed behaviour if indeed that’s the case other than that a test case of some description so people can see exactly what is attempted and how it breaks, however I suspect in reality the original code is possibly weak and needs re-factoring.
In reply to: version 2.2.0 and is_page() [Resolved]‘about’ was simply an example to point out that if I dump that in a BP page it will return false, so that it wouldn’t in your case tends to point to something up with your install, quite what I’m not sure at this stage.
In reply to: version 2.2.0 and is_page() [Resolved]Well you could and probably should be using tags like bp_is_register_page() although logged in BP will or is supposed to redirect to the home page if you try and access a page registered to the BP registration template.
So the issue then is that if you have is_page(‘about’) in that else clause then any bp page you land on would return true for that, which isn’t right but not sure why that is the case suddenly for you, it certainly doesn’t look like that would be happening on my trunk install I’m testing on.
Additionally there are a lot of posts covering re-direct scenarios on the forum, it might be worth checking a few of those and building a more robust redirect function, the one you have is a bit basic.
In reply to: version 2.2.0 and is_page() [Resolved]@tobyhawkins
Not sure how you’re running your checks, where or to what end, but I wouldn’t use is_page() where BP is concerned, but it sort of depends on what exactly your theme is trying to do, BP has template tags such as bp_current_component() & bp_current_action() that can provide very specific checks for screens. This ticket and the links to a a sister ticket might help in understanding how is_page() is working and the changes effected a while back, of course this doesn’t rule out the possibility there is something else wrong that needs further investigation.
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5307
Having said all that is_page() will return true, is_page(‘blah-blah’) will return false if for example your running that on the members directory screen, bp_current_component() will return ‘members’
What templates are you working with, theme compatibility?
In reply to: version 2.2.0 and is_page() [Resolved]You don’t actually state what the issue is!
There were some issues with is_page a while back that I dimply remember being addressed but wasn’t aware of any current ones.
Do describe the issue so we have a chance to try and replicate.
There is no code I’m aware of, you would need to write a custom function that hooked in to the group creation hook and ran a check on existing names compared to proposed name and bailed out with an error message if a match found.
In reply to: How can I limit the size of the group avatar? How does the system re-size it to that degree, those aren’t BP defaults – which you can change and which you can also adjust down in size by passing height/width parameters back through the calling avatar functions in templates.
Have you got some custom code at work or a theme that is managing BP avatars ?
It creates as in the group name, if you look at the slug or machine name, the url you should see it as *-1234 which I presume is the id appended, this behaviour is similar to that which would happen in WP if you created two pages with the same name, your not prevented from doing so but WP needs to be able to reference them so will append ‘-2’ to keep them distinct.
This maybe is not the best idea for Groups though, perhaps you would like to open a ticket to suggest behaviour is changed?
In reply to: Broken Links [Resolved]Links fixed or at least links nullified as were placeholders really and changelogs didn’t exist before 1.5.
Thanks for the prompt.
Closing as resolved.
In reply to: BP 2.2 also broke Drop-Down MenuLooking at that theme I can see it states it’s BP compatible, however they state compatible to:
BuddyPress 2.1.x.Plugin authors and theme authors are the ones that need to check and if necessary update their work to be fully compatible with each BP release, same goes for WP releases, so hopefully the theme authors will check their theme over and release any necessary updates, if, that is, it is a theme issue.
In reply to: BP 2.2 also broke Drop-Down MenuSo this ‘dropdown menu’ is not the WP adminbar just the themes main WP menu bar?
Have you checked with the theme authors whether this is something they’re aware of?
These issues, although I understand the apparent common denominator seeming to be BP, will tend to be something that perhaps the theme, plugin or whatever third party code was doing wrong or didn’t account for, BP tends to be pretty well tested, as there are quite a few of us working with it and the trunk code day in day out and bar the inevitable minor issues that crop up after a release there tend to be few major ones.
In reply to: Custom display of sitewide noticesWe need to update the widget as we should simply bail out if notice closed and not display markup if possible, also I want to add a filter to return false so the option is available to cancel the footer rendering even if widget not in use.
In reply to: Unable to Access Dashboard, Update PluginsUnfortunately based on the above description it’s going to be hard to help.
Can you think of any action taken that seemed to co-inside with the issues you describe? A white screen usually means that a plugin or custom piece of code has thrown a fatal error, the first stage solution to that and getting back to your dashboard would be to identify and deactivate the offending plugin, by means of renaming the actual plugin folder so WP is forced to deactivate it thus allowing you back in.
Without any notion of what plugins, what versions of WP/BP you’re running helping further at this stage is difficult.
Can you access your server logs to see what it throws up as errors?
In reply to: BP 2.2 Broke Chat and Messenger@scaffies Can’t see the reply you mention, what is the username?
And thanks for adding the NSFW.
In reply to: BP 2.2 Broke Chat and Messenger@scaffies It is advisable if you run a mission critical that you don’t update it directly but first test things on a staging site or site running on your localhost machine this way you’ll trap problems and be able to ask around or pass on info to plugin developers.
With your links could you place a prominent NSFW before and after each one if they lead to any material that people might find offensive, this is a public forum and people may be accessing from work machines ( NSFW = Not Safe For Work) in some countries employees cab be sacked for accessing certain sites on employers machines. 🙂
In reply to: Buddypress 2.2 and Links page@all A word of advise where mission critical sites are concerned, it’s a really good idea to invest a little time if possible to setting up a simple local dev version of your site so that you can test run any updates before performing on your live production site. It’s fairly easy nowadays to achieve this either using something like Xampp or I believe there are WP solutions that will also setup localhost sites.
In reply to: Default theme is still showingThe template hiearchy advanced template names are correct and will overload any theme compat files as long as they are located in correct directories, and by the sound of things you have established this on a stock WP theme ( always remember that with template names such as index-create.php we are saying take full control of the template rendering bypassing BP’s content injection so the template needs to be a full WP template i.e one complete with header call and footer call and all necesary content inbetween)
Things that can force deactivate theme compatibility are:
* Theme compat is disabled when a theme meets one of the following criteria: * 1) It declares BP support with add_theme_support( 'buddypress' ) * 2) It is bp-default, or a child theme of bp-default * 3) A legacy template is found at members/members-loop.php. This is a * fallback check for themes that were derived from bp-default, and have * not been updated for BP 1.7+; we make the assumption that any theme in * this category will have the members-loop.php template, and so use its * presence as an indicator that theme compatibility is not requiredPay special attention to the possibility of members-loop.php existing from previous implementation of this custom theme in the themes root i.e members/members-loop.php
And check through any functions files for inclusion of :
add_theme_support( 'buddypress' )Both or either of these will deactivate theme compatibility and likely result in navigating to /groups/ simply displaying a plain stock WP page.php view.
In reply to: How to enable buddypress panel for all the users ??Closing duplicate: see https://buddypress.org/support/topic/buddypress-admin-panel-is-not-showing/#post-233065
In reply to: Buddypress admin panel is not showing@imanishpushkar Please don’t post a topic more than once this won’t get a faster response and causes confusion if people are posting to both or multiple topics fracturing the responses.
As well please do remember that this is a volunteer forum and as such we ask that people are patient in awaiting a response and not to bump a tread before 24 hours have passed.
As to the question, I’m not clear on what you are seeing as an issue, you may need to try and add some more detail on this. If it’s a case of you are not seeing registered users appear in members listings then in BP terms a user must login and become active on the site to kick things into life.
In reply to: Full Width BuddyPress PagesAs mentioned please do check documentation, as we endeavour to provide guides to working with BP in this respect. On this particular point though in the impending release of 2.2 there will be now the capability to select named templates for the BP pages so you should be able to select a full width version of your themes page.php.
In reply to: [Resolved] Error 503 Service UnavailableAnd have you checked your server error logs? or contacted your hosts? a 503 is a server error message alerting you to an issue with the server not necessarily BP so first port of call would be your logs then hosts tech support.
In reply to: ‘Post in’ selector in Personal Activity screen?and that’s how it works 🙂 Theme compat is quite cool and pretty intuitive to use with hidden depths when required, all the articles are in the codex theme section – if you had a particular reason you found it hard to locate them let us know as we’re always interested in user experience with the codex.
In reply to: ‘Post in’ selector in Personal Activity screen? The activity post-form template carries a conditional check on that select elements to show it only if not ‘bp_is_my_profile’ so you could comment out/ remove that having first copied the template over to your theme as described in the BP Codex.
