each time the system get transmited a new name, username, group name, forum name etc, it hit the new name with the existing urls *(slugs) and see if it exists…

the reason why you have yoursite.com/members/nexia is that if i start my own blog with /nexia as the name, i could… but if you apply the technique used by Xevo, i could not… i would have to use something else like /nexia_blog …

my opinion?… offer both solutions as plugins…

bbPress can be integrated to WPMU, we already have examples of that… why not offer a complete solution for the integration instead of two HowTo and a plugin…

and the BP forum version is quite different from bbPress, i don’t know why it is still named bbPress… why not having it as a plugin as well?

so when we decide to offer forums for groups we use one version, and if we want a global forum, we use bbPress, and if we want both, we use both…

because right now we can not use both versions at the same time… i would.

/me run behind Jeff with flowers… maybe that will tease him…

    *(or frustrate him badly)

having a Andy Peatling in my living room when i code, would be really annoying… sorry but we would have to debate the usage of each function… not good.

    ROFL!

you can easily recreate a new function with the one i provided, so instead of creating a dropdown menu it would simply show a count…

bp_adminbar_notifications_menu() is the function to call for creating the notifications menu… you will have to play with that.

the css is not worring me that much, i know how to handle it… it’s just a detail…

    anyway, i decided to keep the BP forums/Groups for a time… no biggy… ;)

thanks r-a-y, i tried jjj’s technique but had a flaw… not loading a css for the adminbar style, so in all the styles i have for the bbpress, nowhere the adminbar is looking where it is supposed to or with the style needed… i will explode, sadly bbpress is not integrating the style, and i may simply drop it from the original plans… but i need a real forum, the version in BP is just hectic

gravatar upload?… you mean linking your avatar upload with your gravatar account? or showing gravatar avatar in your own account with the right email? *(that one is included)

    i’d like the same thing… ;)

any project is viable until it dies…

what do you think, we can not provide you with the absolute answer, not even a glimpse of an answer… you have to TRY AND DIE IF YOU DON’T… nobody know if you have the best formula to make it work, nobody have any idea of how interesting your site will become in the near future… so asking this is not really useful, even the best admins here would never have a real answer to this question… or why would they answer you, they could start that site before you and be rich already…

the secret of success is to do it instead of letting others do it…

    @nexia

is this occuring only on your local installation in a clean wpmu?… because i’m with a OS-X 10.6 as well, using your technique, and it shows properly on my production site…

you create a support center tool?…. i’ll be up for it. btw, usually, the ones who create such tools have a large vocabulary in the matter, but we have a little problem here… you are not clear enough in your request… ;)

do you want to add a link in each user’s profile so the user can access the support center, or you want a link in the navigation bar, or the adminbar ??

if your whole energy is actually drawn by writing your website’s goals, like indicated in your OP, i can answer your topic title… yes you waste your time.

youtube was written in 2 months and the goal was not to become the dedicated site for videos, but to share some vacation clips… for friends. the power of that site is not the design, nor the code or the ideas, but the spreading of the idea… someone thought it was greater than the first goal…

so even if you have great goals, forget about it… if you do not start your site, if you do not let the visitors make an idea of your site, if you do not let the visitors take your site and make it theirs, sorry but you loose your time.

having a site is not having a software development… Andy here is dealing with a project, not a target… he have no target, he want to go way beyond… a website is different… if you do not start, you can’t reach your goal… if you have only one goal, you will not reach it if the site is a service, because the members are to change the path of your project from day one…

so the best advice, everybody said it… open your site, build it piece by piece, listen to your clients/members… that’s it… stop writing for 5 years to come, because in 5 years, facebook and youtube will be dead, the story will be different

December, 2009 for 1.2 … please tell us Andy that you are not in rush to release this on December 1st ?…

actually i did not say BP would be useless, but duplicating features is just cumbersome for everybody.

right now my question is not about vBulletin, i know how it work, i coded half of it. what i want to know is if we can find a arcade solution for WP or BP… right now the only flash games solutions i found are crap related to external sites… i need something that will receive the scores submited by the pnflashgames so the users have their scores displayed in their profile etc…

but that’s not really important right now, i do not say i would trash the site right away, i just want to know IF!

the “adminbar” is set inside buddypress/wpmu, you can use ANY WordPress theme and the adminbar will rise.

the theme you show here can be used for a user’s blog, but would require a rewrite if you want to use it as the front page theme… as it does not contain a single buddypress tagged function… but it could be used for it…

i think Erich just want to push the release to be faster by dropping big features…lol
