    It would be nice, but it would require some extra functionality. wordpress.com released as open source their video plugin suite, but I have yet to find anyone that has got it working :) Some of use are using phpmotion right now for our members which does both audio and video now. It would be nice to have something and I believe that Nicola has talked about a few solutions once Andy has a chance to put the albums into the core.

    There is nothing built in yet to the buddypress suite of plugins. You would have to search for options on WPMU itself. There are a variety of ways. Off top of my head:

    1) Have members email the site-admin about registration and then have the site-admin manually create their account (whole time with all registrations off)

    2) Use a plugin like “Signup Question” and then make the question and the answer something that you only give out to members you want to join. Almost like “invitation” so to speak.

    3) There are plugins that exist for the admin to “approve new blogs”, but don’t know of any that deal with user accounts themselves, but that might work.

    4) Create a page that users can use to signup by giving all the required information to the site-admin and then manually create them (so they don’t have to email you).

    In terms of WPMU, there really is a “hole” in the invitation or restricting registration. It would be nice if something was created for sure, but as far as I can tell, options really are limited on solutions already created.

    The nice register page would be http://yourdomain.com/register and it is already there for new registration of any account type you allow :) Check out http://testbp.org/register as an example.

    Andy has intentions of making the privacy components at some point. Right now, there is no privacy without plugins. I have a little plugin created already that makes it so member pages cannot be seen without being logged in, but it only covers member profiles and not groups yet. If you are interested, it is over at http://buddypressdev.org as well as in the ‘Plugins and Extending’ forum here at these forums.

    Pretty simple really:

    1) Make a backup of your DB just in case you change your mind.

    2) Remove anything that has prefix of bp in your /mu-plugins/ folder

    3) Delete the folder /wp-content/member-themes/

    4) Delete the folder /wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/

    5) Delete any tables in your DB that start with the prefix bp

    6) Delete the tables that are in format of wp_user_X_activity ….. Not wp_users, just those specific to BP

    7) Change your main WPMU blog to use a different theme

    8) Be prepared for hits to non-existent information if you have been hit by search engines

    Really, it is just reversing what you did in the installation process. Making backups before and after are really important as you don’t want to make a mistake. It is also good practice to tell your members that you are doing it since they might have issue with the changes, or at least need to be notified.

    Hope that helps.

    There are some people that already work on extending WPMU that are going to work on extending BP as well for scalability. You won’t be the only one that has trouble, so solutions will be presented. Keep in mind, this hasn’t even been released past beta yet, so no solutions will likely be created until the release.

    It isn’t finding the member theme. Do you have the it installed in wp-content/ and not in wp-content/themes/ for the actual member-themes folder?

    Thanks Burt…I am an idiot! I was adding priority to even single action, but forget the first one….the template redirect for the main plugin file… :)

    Thanks,

    @12thharmonic that would work *if and only if* that install is running WPMU 2.7 and bbPress 1.0 alpha 4+ since the forum integration in buddypress needs bbPress 1.0 alpha series and that can only be integrated with WPMU 2.7 (unreleased). Don’t know of anyone that got this working with WPMU 2.6.5, but if they did, I would be interested in finding out.

    Oh ya, I don't think these bugs you've listed are very 'outstanding' at all Andy.

    That is funny Burt! Outstanding being “still open” :) That last one you mentioned would be pretty outstanding though ;)

    Okay, I'm still confused...does this plug-in actually work with WPMU/BP or not? Please clarify. Thanks!!!

    Unless you find someone who has tried it and replies, you are best to search google or try it yourself to find out ;)

    Let me add that you need the list item code as well, so something like this:

    <?php

    function add_forum_link() {
    echo '<li><a href="' . site_url('forum') . '">Forums</a></li>';
    }
    add_action( 'bp_nav_items', 'add_forum_link' );

    ?>

    Best look in the WPMU forums for things (plugins) to help. Off the top of my head, some of the better ones are WP-Hashcash, Signup Question and Admin confirm new blogs. Hashcash is available at https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins and the others are at http://wpmudev.org/plugins/

    Loads of good ideas though in the WPMU forums and that is the best place to start looking.

    AFAK aka AFAIK usually means “as far as I know”. Forums are already in the 1.0 release, but none of the original posters other points. They area actually all being addressed by plugins with the exception of internal photo galleries which are coming after the 1.0 release. There is flickr plugin on buddypressdev.org though as well as Youtube. The invite system is there, but not finished yet.

    Josswinn, I do this now. You can use that plugin or in another thread I made reference to another one that works out of the /plugins/ folder for people to lock down their blogs. Members Only or something like that. Works well.

    When phpmotion 3.0 is released, I will get something hacked up for it to work :) I would imagine the other video plugins to work off will be pretty wicked by then. There is no sense doing anything now since the user RSS feeds don’t exist and looking at the plugins, there is no sense adding them as they are limited. I might even add some filters for people to embed videos into their wire or forum posts though ahead of this release. Time is not my friend lately though….

    @trent

    Kaltura.com hosts the videos and offers up the packages to edit and embed them? Is that correct? phpmotion is your own video server that you run and control on your own server. Some of us already run phpmotion and this thread is about adding that functionality into buddypress. If I am wrong and you can host the Kaltura software on your own server for user upload, then it might an alternative in this case ;)

    I have seen a plugin on the WPMUDEV.org Premium forums that lets you choose where the logged in user goes, but using wp-login.php sends the user to the admin by default. If the user logs in from the main page, it stays there.

    Ok…duplicated this myself with not many members to show on a test install. Created a ticket at https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/347

    @trent

    I have never seen this on any of my installs. Anyone else seen this? As side note, I does your feed not work have any specific content in it? Mine dies if there are forums posts in it. Might die with group posts as well, not sure.

    @trent

    bbPress does this by default for mods and admins, so it should be that hard to duplicate. Not sure about plugin though. Have you looked through https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ ?

    @trent

    I have already looked at this and think it is as simple as just creating a CSS for buddypress that works on mobile devices and using Alex King’s plugin. If you want the fancy stuff, then you create a theme for mobile device and use the iTouch plugin. I already created a bbPress mobile plugin by modifying Alex’s WP mobile plugin, so it shouldn’t be that hard to do for Buddypress.

    Another issue I see. When someone posts on a wire, it shows the new post, but also the message of “Your wire post was posted successfully!” and then caches that. So, if anyone visits the wire page, it has that cached :) Another issue is deleting items doesn’t reset the cache. Sure there are workarounds, but that would be annoying.
