In reply to: Registration not working hen BuddyPress activated
ok thanks for the info sounds somewhat familiar although i cannot say without doubt that it is their service to blame for my issue at this point :/
In reply to: [Resolved] My Join Group button is acting funnyi don’t think anyone else has actually re-created this, maybe i’m wrong?
In reply to: Registration not working hen BuddyPress activatedhi curious about your situation @themightymo i also have been experiencing a rather odd bug of my own since we switched to wp engine:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/my-join-group-button-is-acting-funny/
i have found them to be very knowledgable over there and the service itself seems to be beyond comparison for wordpress hosting.
In reply to: Guidance on picking a themewell most any theme should be able to incorporate buddypress content/pages but obviously a theme which is designed with buddypress in mind has the potential for a far more seamless user experience. in the next version of buddypress theme modification may not even be necessary for most themes, but again i would tend to go for a theme which takes advantage of buddypress’s additional functionality.
In reply to: Fighting Spam User Registrationsbuddypress is not doing anything to stop it
i don’t think that’s a fair statement at all. everyone here knows how important this issue is and everyone here is doing their best to incorporate features that help without any downside. the article you mention is also referencing wanguard which sounds like a tool to fight slog regs but there is potential downside (blocking legit users who have been incorrectly flagged by wanguard for some reason or another).
In reply to: Restrict access to posts based on group membershipmaybe you were looking for this?
In reply to: Why is BuddyPress.org so slow?currently in beta more info here:
In reply to: Voting/Polling functionalitybuddypress doesn’t have any default voting/polling functionality i’d look into polldaddy, personally.
In reply to: Spam, Splog and Dirtbag Preventionakismet deals with a bit of spam activity (bp support is relatively new but it seems to be learning fairly quickly) but spam registration prevention is a rather sticky wicket anything you do to prevent registrations by spammers also has at least the potential makes things more difficult for legit users. I’m about to try out wang guard for that heard good things about it.
In reply to: Ideas for my website, need guidancehi there i’m not so much of coder but i’m thinking i’ll chime in here anyway but most of what you are looking for usually falls under the umbrella of what plugins normally do. some people like to make their own i not being a programmer tend to go with whats already been done for the most part.
#1 you might want to check out s2 members plugin does everything you are looking for in #1 and more but then again that’s not always desirable just saying you might want to check it out.
#2 what you are saying here seems to be a non-sequiter if you actually meant to say site instead of network however it sounds like you actually want to be giving new users Author or Contributor users roles which is actually just a WordPress thing and has very little to do with BuddyPress itself other then possible a hook into the public profiles but again this sounds like something that might also be handled by a plugin especially with regards to reordering the content. Be advised this information already exists on a contributors author page which again sort of a WP thing and not really a BP thing.
#3 is already sorta possibly already similar to the last thing any post (wp thing) can be set to private or password protected but tying that access to different BP connections once again sounds to me like some a plugin might do.
#4 i don’t follow this one either if nobody can see each other how would they ask them to be friends? if you wanted to do such a thing it once again sounds like a plugin.
plugins that do what you are looking for may or may not exist, you will need to do some research or perhaps build them yourself. Like i said before i’m not actually a programmer but from what i hear WP/BP plugin coding is relatively stratiforward if you are proficient in php.
In reply to: Merry Christmas buddypress forumVery Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the BuddyPress community!
In reply to: Mulisite – How to Get a Users Site/Blog URLyourdomain.top/members/yourusername/blogs/
if your members page has a different name the url may also be different, ironically if your blogs page has a different name i think it’s still just “blogs”
In reply to: login for buddypressthere is no difference between BP login and WP login the only thing that can be a bit different is registration.
In reply to: Adding Extraa Profile Fieldsyou can define the label for a check box, menu or radio select to any ranges you choose. if you don’t understand you might want to read up a bit on form fields in html. there really isn’t limit to what can be set up with what already exists as options for those fields.
In reply to: login for buddypressprobably a jquery lightbox/popup but don’t ask me how to actually make one of those things
In reply to: Link To Profileyourdomain.top/members/yourusername
if you have a different name for your members page that may be different.
In reply to: Adding Extraa Profile Fieldsusers > profile fields

In reply to: Member only access for Activity Pagemay want to check out s2 member as well.

In reply to: [error] Links In Buddypress Profileoh gotcha not sure how to do that sorry.
In reply to: [error] Links In Buddypress Profilewhat are you trying to do links inside profile fields should work given proper formatting (including the http://)
In reply to: Extending user Profilei believe they can add additional entries like tags with commas separating each entry in any single text entry profile field
