In reply to: Difference between BuddyPress and bbPress?
bbbpress is forum software, buddypress gives you more in depth user profiles groups and activity streams (amongst other social netowrky type things) the two can be used separately or together.
In reply to: Login Redirectas far as i know there is no buddypress login page, the wordpress login page is what buddypress uses unless you construct your own.
Firstly, to answer your question, no. The two things are complimentary.
I need little sites off the main site, not multisites.
That sentence contradicts itself, if you want a network of wordpress sites based on a single installation, then multisite exactly is what you need to do that.
If, however, you are looking to give members of your site posting authority on your single site and you want to restrict what categories they can use then you don’t need either BP or multisite. You need to change the default user role and probably use a plugin like Restrict Caterogies:
wordpress.org/plugins/restrict-categories/
bare in mind, i’m not sure how easy it is to undo the multisite switch that you have already thrown. Probably, others here know more then i do when it comes to reversing course on a multisite switch but it’s not something i would even try.
In reply to: Content Blocks on BuddyPress Profiles!pretty cool!
In reply to: Is BuddyPress right for me?it can definitely do the items you listed out specifically.
you can’t really hid the entire profile out of the box but you can hide most of the fields and info by setting the default visibility in the profile field setup screens.
In reply to: Groups creation based on user rolebuddypress only recognizes 2 roles by default as far as i’m aware anyway, Admin/superadmin and everyone else. there’s probably a way to make a plugin that would do that if you know about such things.
In reply to: Credential system for members of certain groupsyou might want to consider using achievements:
achievementsapp.com
to accomplish what you are seeking to do you could also create a private group to collect them.
In reply to: Buddypress x-profile visibility doesn’t workAbove my php paygrade (0) sorry. Maybe someone else has an idea.
In reply to: Create new members roles on buddypress groupi don’t think is such a thing as buddypress roles actually.
In reply to: Forms plugins for Buddypressare the forms in jetpack not good enough for what you need?
In reply to: Broken Pluginlooks like you are on shared hosting 40 megabytes is probably not going to work for any halfway popular buddypress site you should consider upgrading to a vps.
In reply to: CSS Upgrade?Yeah and i think order the file is listed in the html doc also sets a priority so that if you load a two css files with identical rules, the second file’s definition will override the first.
Generally speaking most themes allow you to add your own css rules and redefinitons that will override anything in the files.
glad to be a help!
In reply to: What backup plugin do you guys use?i use vault press very good customer service over there above and beyond in my experience.
In reply to: “Non-Static Method” issuesthis all sounds way over my head to begin with but maybe this deserves or already has a trac ticket?
In reply to: i don’t get itBy definition features are only added to open source projects if people feel it’s important enough to make it happen. If you think theres a feature that every buddypress site should have then you should first lobby for it to the core group of contributors (through trac for wordpress/buddypress) and ideally offer your own time to help the develop the feature if the group agrees that it should be part of the core feature set.
If you are unable to convince others you are still free to fork the project into your own thing or better yet create a plugin which adds this functionality for others who feel as you do.
ps you might want to check out https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/
i believe those mojo market installs are real installs and do not use shared resources you should be able to install buddypress on it just fine but you should confirm with blue host that you have full file access to the installation and are not using shared wordpress core files before proceeding if you want to be sure.
In reply to: Installing BuddyPress on a network setupnetwork activate, usually buddypress plugins would also be network activated.
In reply to: Need help with installing BuddyPress 1.8.1not really any different from any other plugin, install, activate, the instructions on the repo page are a little dated, there is no wizard anymore.
In reply to: Stopping anonymous group creationyeah you definitely need to be a user to create a group.
not very familiar with multi network myself but as i understand it you can “upgrade” so-to-speak a regular network to a multi network. if i am correct it would almost certainly make sense to keep things simple until they need not to be.
i think the difference is the buddydev one lets you have different user bases.
