First, let me mention that their is no ‘creator’ – buddypress is an excellent product by the entire community. But you can read about the core team over here – https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/help-us-help-you/ 
As for your issue, Just to clarify: Users can register but after recieving and clicking the activation email their account does not activate, correct?
