In reply to: How does a member find their profile page?
bbPress is a plugin outside of BuddyPress. You better ask for this on their support forum.
You could also read the bbPress Codex.
In reply to: How can I add file to Activity Updateshi @lucdkny, @colorfullady,
by default, the activity update is only intended for short and brief message to other users. Reason why the form is coming without any editor tools and doesn’t let you use any html tag.
If A+ or BP let you add images and videos, it’s because WP use automated oembed for such medias in any front-end editor, even the most simpliest like BP’s update.
If you want to mention docs, pdf, zip, or anything else, you might use some dedicated plugins. For example bp groups docs or Buddydrive. Each action made with help of these plugins will be mentionned on the activity feed. But to access the doc itself, users have to go to the mentionned group or profil.
I wouldn’t recommend you to get around these rules. File manipulation on front-end is delicate and a too easy opportunity for spammers or hackers. Don’t play with fire. π
In reply to: Block other Users – count imagesHi all,
BP Album is no more avaible and outdated.
BuddyPress Album hasn’t been updated in over 2 years.A new project called MediaPress is out since october on BuddyDev.
rtMedia is a third party plugin; any question regarding that plugin is to ask on their support forum.

In reply to: [Resolved] Edit buddypress.pot filehi @gnfb,
Basic PHP explanation.
A case is the original context. This means while using a switch, if the function encounter the case ‘Side wide activity’, it return ‘Something’.
If you switch to another case, for ex. ‘Groups’, itreturn ‘Bands’.
And finally, if it find no case, it use the default variable $translated. So in the snippet you use:
case 'Site-Wide Activity': // used by default by BP return 'Whats Happening?'; // the wording you want to use insteadHope to be clear.
In reply to: Different Types of users?hi @nzshock,
as soon as BP 2.2 will be out (end january) this can be done easily.
If you’re comfortable with coding and won’t wait, you might read this topic.
Or you can try s2Member plugin.I suggest to wait… π
In reply to: Show donated amount in user profilePlease, don’t mention a user without a link to what you’re speaking about.
There is no specific donation plugin for BP so far i know. You can of course try some of the existing for WordPress, but i’ve no idea if one of them integrates well.
Maybe an alternative solution with myCred, who is adapted to BuddyPress and has such a feature.
In reply to: BuddyPress on SubsiteTake also in mind that BuddyPress does not work on installations where you give WordPress its own directory.
In reply to: No activation page after registeringFYI, about the first point
buddypress probably does not support sites in non-root folders.
It’s not probably, but sure ! π
This is indicated on the requirement codex page
Anyway, glad you got it and thank you for sharing the solution. π
In reply to: Export Member Details to PDFIf you need just a simple PDF format to get the members list, the most simple way is to use the export tool of phpmyadmin.
See this video tutorial to learn about this.A more sophisticated way to get member’s list converted to PDF, and much more, directly on/in your site, would be to use this premium plugin ($28).
Also read the doc and try the demos first before taking a decision. πIn reply to: Where does buddyPress store data???In reply to: Social Icons Profiles BPyour html is not correct ! The opening href tag is missing…
Use this:
<span class="fb-info"><a href="<?php echo $fb_info; ?>" title="....And again, my previous snippet is working with WP 4.01/BP 2.1.1 π
In reply to: Spam/Bot usersIt’s not buddypress but WP who manage registering and concerning bots, they go directly on your server.
A good starting point is to read the WP Codex:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPressAnd at least,
Never use “admin” as username
Never user wp_ as table prefixIf you search for “spam” on this forum, you will find many topics about this subject.
And the latest one, even if not directly related to your issue, is one of the sticky post on the forum homepage. https://buddypress.org/support/topic/this-is-why-we-cant-have-nice-things/In reply to: [Resolved] BuddyPress created Blank pagesAΓ―e… it’s a premium theme, so it would better for you to ask on their suppport, as no one of us has access to it.
Maybe you can find some hints in your theme documentation ?In reply to: [Resolved] Hide possibility to change 'Base' nameSorry to answer you with a big laught, it’s not html but php. π
You should also find the time to read more attentively the forum, or search by keywords.
in this case: hide xprofile fieldshttps://buddypress.org/support/search/hide+xprofile+fields/
You’re welcome. Glad you got it. π
In reply to: No activation page after registeringSorry i just realized i forgot a point….
If your install is at the site root, aka www folder
/xampp/www/testbuddy/
/xampp/www/testbuddy/wp-content/
/xampp/www/testbuddy/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/
…..the htaccess rules should look like this
RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L]Just in case of
In reply to: No activation page after registeringif you’re using latest xampp, you have respect the new way to declare DNS. One for the server itself, and one for the site.
:80 virtual host port is a server rule and has nothing to do with buddypress.127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhostAND (this is a bit new), you have to set the same for each site running locally
127.0.0.1 buddylocal
::1 buddylocalThis is how it works for wampp. Check the xampp help or documentation if you use linux to get sure.
In reply to: [Resolved] Hide possibility to change 'Base' nameWhen BP is installed and xProfile is activated, the original WP profile settings are not accessible to user.
The WP register process use only username, password and email and BuddyPress add by default a Name field as base for other extended profile fields.
In short this means that username and name fields can contain a same information(a name, a pseudonym, a first or/and a last name). The plugin you mention is best for a WP install where user had choosen first/last name as output on post, comments, etc Once BP is activated, this became a little different.
Now to the initial question.
The CSS trick is a very inelegant solution as it lets everybody knowing how BP works to surround this invisibility. You’re also loosing any flexibility if you want to show some fields privately for example. You can do this properly with a little snippet, as explained here:
Here’s an example which let you hide fields or fiels group to members, but not to site admin
function bpfr_hide_profile_field_group( $retval ) { if ( bp_is_active( 'xprofile' ) ) : // hide profile group/field to all except admin if ( !is_super_admin() ) { //exlude fields, separated by comma $retval['exclude_fields'] = '1'; //exlude groups, separated by comma $retval['exclude_groups'] = '1'; } return $retval; endif; } add_filter( 'bp_after_has_profile_parse_args', 'bpfr_hide_profile_field_group' );Add it to bp-custom.php or your child-theme functions.php
Of course you can also choose to show a field or group, but remove the possibility for the user to edit it later. Simply add more conditionnal to the function.
Here another example:
function bpfr_hide_profile_edit( $retval ) { // remove field from edit tab if( bp_is_user_profile_edit() ) { $retval['exclude_fields'] = '54'; // ID's separated by comma } // allow field on register page if ( bp_is_register_page() ) { $retval['include_fields'] = '54'; // ID's separated by comma } // hide the field on profile view tab if ( $data = bp_get_profile_field_data( 'field=54' ) ) : $retval['exclude_fields'] = '54'; // ID's separated by comma endif; return $retval; } add_filter( 'bp_after_has_profile_parse_args', 'bpfr_hide_profile_edit' );Hope to be clear.
In reply to: [Resolved] BuddyPress created Blank pagesDid you followed these recommendations ?
In reply to: Can not type in registration text fieldsHi,
just tried to register and anything went well for me, as i received the success message (You have successfully created your account etc).
Normally you should find a pending user (testuser) in the backend user admin. If it’s the case, you can delete it.
In reply to: No activation page after registeringhi @buffos,
despite your details, i have to ask:
- did also activate the Register page ?
- can you register from the back-end ?
- do the other component page show up ?
- is RewriteEngine On in htaccess and is that module enabled on your local apache server ?
- have you checked the error logs of php, apache, mysql ?
In reply to: [Resolved] Friends only activity stream.Browser cache deletion or F5 screen refresh are magic decisions (sometimes) π
Do you have some “old” custom function in bp-custom.php or theme functionsΒ§.php ?
A modified file in your child-theme ?
Could also be a corrupted file. Reload BuddyPress via FTP if nothing of the previous is the case.
