See bp_xprofile_get_visibility_levels function
hi @ron-wills,
first of, BuddyPress displays correctly with Hueman theme, even if this theme is not the easiest to use if you’re new to BP…. and Hueman. π
Each BP component use his own page, for internaly purpose only and to fit to WP standards. But these component pages shoud only exist, but without any custom content or layout settings from Hueman.
Suggest you read a bit about buddypress and how it works. Eg.
In reply to: Hidden Groups Not Listed in Groupshi @heddle,
do you use a custom function (in functions.php or bp-custom.php) ?
Theme ? Used plugins ?Read also here.
Nothing more for the moment πIn reply to: disable member directory except via searchHi @gabe462,
the members directory shows by default all members.
The search field on this directory let you find a user, and if one is find, BP shows the username linked to this member profile. The member loop is a core component and cannot be deactivated. But you can remove anything from the directory template.
Why want you go to the directory, which you don’t want to use, if the final result is to see the searched member ? Go directly to this member profile. π
You can try to modify the template to simplify it so far as possible and only use the member search on the (ex) directory page.
bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/index.php contain the member search field
bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/members-loop.phpCopy both directory (starting by /buddypress/ ) and files into your child-theme (to get /your-child-theme/buddypress/members/index.php) and try to remove what you don’t want to see.
Without waranty, i’ve never tested this.
In reply to: bp_has_members not working after updatei guess you do it wrong. π
How have you implemented “Make_My_Profile_Public” ?
Is this a custom profile field of yours ?In reply to: bp_has_members not working after updatedo you used a child-theme to make this change ?
hi @iryna_b,
try this
div#bbpress-forums h3 {display:none!important;}In reply to: [Resolved] Disable @mentions (links) completelyCould it be a plugin βconflictβ?
I don’t think, but it’s possible. To know the answer, check it out, you’re the master on your site !
Have you tested by writing a notice where you mentionned a member ?
The snippet removes only the link from @mention, but doesn’t remove or sanitize this part. If somebody writes @ something, you’ll see @ something but without the link to profile.
And for almost any activity modification, the code isn’t retroactive. Past activities are stored with the old version and the new one are stored with your modification.
In reply to: 2.2 top featuresthank you for this wishlist ! π
The in #4539 related Mediapress is a great feature (still in beta, but promise full).I installed it yesterday for intense test. π
In reply to: [Resolved] Disable @mentions (links) completelyIn reply to: Hide Activity tab in Profile / Disable @mentionsHi @iburnthings,
Try this. Add the snippet to your child-theme functions.php or to bp-custom.php
/* Remove @mention from profile header */ function bpfr_remove_mention_from_profile() { echo '<style> h2.user-nicename { display:none; } </style>'; if( bp_is_user() && ! bp_get_member_user_id() ) { $user_id = 'displayed: '. bp_displayed_user_id(); } else { $user_id = 'get_member_user: '. bp_get_member_user_id(); } remove_filter( 'bp_get_displayed_user_mentionname', bp_activity_get_user_mentionname( bp_displayed_user_id() ) ); } add_filter( 'bp_get_displayed_user_mentionname', 'bpfr_remove_mention_from_profile' );To change the default landing tab, from (activity) to (profile), use this:
/* Change BuddyPress default Members landing tab. */ define('BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT', 'profile' );In reply to: [Resolved] I cannot delete BuddyPressYou’re welcome @doremdou!
In reply to: Incorrect URL being passedYou have to debug your install. Deactivate all plugins but BP, activate 2012 or 2013 theme and adjust your permalinks in wp settings.
Check for all pages needed by BP and delete definetly any page remaining eventually in the trash.http://nacin.com/2010/04/23/5-ways-to-debug-wordpress/
In reply to: Overlapping in Buddypresswhich theme do you use ?
In reply to: Slovak translating issuethere are always difference between two BuddyPress version…. If you use a custom translation, you must update your version at each BP update. This is how translating a plugin or a theme works and has nothing to do with php files or studying the support.
and so on…
For example, the difference between 2.0.1 and 2.1 is not the translation itself, but the translation comments who where added for better disambiguation.
So for example the word “activity’ in bp 2.01 is written in the po file like this:
#: bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php:165 #: bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php:276 msgid "Personal" msgstr ""and in BP 2.1, you see this:
#: bp-activity/bp-activity-loader.php:277 msgctxt "My Account Activity sub nav" msgid "Personal" msgstr ""A comment was added who look like this:
msgctxt "My Account Activity sub nav"Because of this comment, even if the phrase is already translated, poEdit consider that there is a modification and mark this phrase as fuzzy. And because it is fuzzy, gettext doesn’t use it and the word stays in english.
In 2.1 “activity” remains 9 times alone, with 9 different disambiguation context, in difference to older versions where “activity” was used indifferently for any context.
So if you didn’t take care of such difference, you can think your word is translated. It is, but outside of the context.
msgctxt "Page title for the Activity directory." msgid "Activity" msgctxt "Activity items per page (screen options)" msgid "Activity" msgctxt "Admin Dashbord SWA page title" msgid "Activity" msgctxt "Admin Dashbord SWA menu" msgid "Activity"etc
This means of course that you have to translate “activity” 9 times, instead one time, but the avantage to write it differently, depending your language and the context where the word is used. And again, modifying a po file with a text editor without compiling it into mo format is unuseable. You must use a compiler like poEdit, as gettext use .mo file to translate.
Po/pot files are only working files, not system files like mo is.
In reply to: Incorrect URL being passedhi @crell,
give details please!
What is the wrong url ? Which theme do you use ?
BP/WP version, plugin names, site url…Regarding buddypress CSS, do I have to create a folder for Buddress like this one: your-child-theme/css/buddypress.css to style buddypress? or I can add this to the style.css in the child theme directory? what is the best practice?
Both are best practice. π
But if you’re working with a child-theme, you add a folder named buddypress or community to the child and copy only the template you want to modify from bp-legacy into this folder, by respecting the same path form as in bp-legacy.CSS can be added directly to child style.css
JS modification goes to /your_child/buddypress/js/your_js.jsIn reply to: [Resolved] Is the "Forum" tab a custom profile tab?the answer is: NO, but can you provide some details about your install please ?
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/when-asking-for-support-2/In reply to: Upload images live into the forum from all membershi @caesarhills,
forums are managed by bbpress who brings also the text editor.
This TinyMCE editor – identical to the one you have in the admin or on the blog – comes in a very light version, by default. He’s not intended to be used by any user like the complete version with the media upload.
For a simple security reason, it is not recommended to allow media upload to everyone. If you need such a feature, you have to find another solution to allow your user to share their pictures. This can be done on a profile with buddydrive, or within a group with buddydrive or bp group documents.
In reply to: Slovak translating issueSlovak BuddyPress lang community declares that the files are fully translated.
False ! According to the GlotPress stats, the buddypress translation is only 64% translated.
You have to finish the translation.
Download the po from glotpress
Update that file from the pot file who comes with BP 2.1Use poEdit to do this.

In reply to: Weird (?) 404 errors with PageLines v3 aka DMSDo you use Template Pack ? You have to deactivate it if so, as that plugin is no more necessary.
In reply to: How to deal with old threads?hi @hnla,
i have already (manually) closed old topics from page 1005 to 1498 (the end).
Pfuiiiiii…. π
In reply to: Weird (?) 404 errors with PageLines v3 aka DMSNo you can’t.
Activity comments are not forum discussions. They have not the same post type and are not stored in the same DB table.
If you have a very active forum, it would be preferable that you deactivate the activity commenting for forum activities.
In the same way, for example if your members often use the group notices to discuss instead of the group forum, you can remove the post-form template from the group to avoid this.
