    Hallo @findolfin,

    Effectively, many peoples are claming about de_DE translation issue.

    As the german translation for BuddyPress awaible on GlotPress is only translated to 52% (58% for 1.9!), the only other source to get po/mo files is deckerweb who provides 2 versions, Du and Sie version for BP 1.9 (latest in january 2014)

    I downloaded the Sie version and opened the po. This file doesn’t contain any header information. So i guess gettext can’t read it correctly. And if you use this file it could be at the origin of your issue.

    Here are the whole header informations, including the whole keywords list like _x which you need to add into your german buddypress-de_DE.po
    Open the file with a text editor (notepad++ or similar) and paste it at the beginning of the file.

    Once done, you must open the modified po with poEdit and save it again, to generate the mo file which is in fact the compiled format of the translation used by gettext.

    Hi @csimpson,

    the answer is on the codex (bp_parse_args)

    Add this to your theme’s functions.php or into bp-custom.php

    function bpfr_make_name_members_only( $retval ) {
    	//hold all of our info
    	global $bp;

    	// is xprofile active ?
    	if ( bp_is_active( 'xprofile' ) )

        // The user ID of the currently logged in user
        $current_user_id = (int) trim($bp->loggedin_user->id);

        // The author that we are currently viewing
        $author_id  = (int) trim($bp->displayed_user->id);

    	// user can see only his name && admin can see everyone
    	if ($current_user_id !== $author_id && !current_user_can('delete_others_pages') ) {
    		$retval['exclude_fields'] = '1';
    	}
    	return $retval;
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_after_has_profile_parse_args', 'bpfr_make_name_members_only' );

    EDIT: this snippet does work only on BP 2.0+. Don’t use it with older versions.

    Hi @rebhiadel,

    2 solutions:
    1) modifing the template in your child-theme
    2) coding your own plugin

    read on codex:
    template (sort option)
    coding

    BuddyPress Groups Extras can do the job, but only in PRO version.

    If you feel right to do it yourself, read this tutorial on the codex:

    Hi @jreeve,

    something is wrong with the wp load order. Maybe a theme or a plugin issue.
    On which place you see this error ? Activate wp_debug in wp-config
    what theme do you use ?
    Plugins ?

    Hi @lucidstrike,

    There’s a subnav item…
    Which one ?

    Is it a custom item ?
    Something provided by your theme ?

    Also, theme name please.

    Has the “enable comments” flag an impact on this feature?

    Yes. And also “allow search engines”.

    Users watch the activity stream to see what happened since the last time they connected.
    This means that if they connect each 4 days, they check further. And this became false :
    They won’t be looking 3 pages further for a comment that has just been posted a minute ago.

    SWA is an instant information feed. The’re so many different uses of BP that i wouldn’t give one more than another, but i’m pretty sure that nobody is searching for something that is not/or could be – visible instantly.
    If i don’t see an activity called comment, i don’t search for it. And if i would search, i use the SWA show filter.

    Now back to the problem.
    Try this snippet which will force chronological comment display on the SWA.
    install it in bp-custom.php or theme’s functions.php

    And give feedback !

    function bpfr_stream( $qs, $object ) {
    	if ( 'activity' != $object ) {
    		return $qs;
    	}

    	$qs = wp_parse_args( $qs, array() );

    	$qs['display_comments'] = 'stream';

    	return $qs;
    }
    add_filter( 'bp_ajax_querystring', 'bpfr_stream', 20, 2 );

    Hi @nirgalo,

    comments do show up, but not like you expect and i agree, it is a bit difficult to understand if you have many activities on your SWA.

    This behaviour was introduced for BP 1.9, if i remember well. Anyway it is recent and it is so from now on.

    Imagine we are the 21th of the mounth. You know a comment was made, but you don’t see it in SWA.
    ¿ Qué pasa

    OK! Lets say that somebody published a post the 15th of the mounth. This is registered on the SWA as an activity of the 15th.

    Six days later, the 21th of the mounth, a comment is added to the 15th post. Again it is registered as an activity of the 21th, but because it is a post comment, this comment will be attached to the post of the 15th on the SWA.

    This means that the comment of the 21th is to search in the SWA of the 15th. And if you have many activities, you know now the reason of the Load more button at the bottom of the SWA !

    In a few words, post comments on the SWA are not chronologically registered like X & Y are now friends or ABC registered 5mn ago.

    Post comments are logically coupled to the post they belong to. In this perspective, they also cannot be commented on the SWA, because the discussion was started around the blog post content, on the blog, and NOT around the site activity itself, which represent first what’s happening on the site, not wat it is written here and there.

    Hope i was clear. 😉

    Yes i meant permalinks settings.
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Settings_Permalinks_Screen
    By going on the permalink page and simply clicking on update, without doing any change, will refresh the whole site urls. This is recommanded after heavy modification on pages, posts, menus.

    You can also check the permalink format on the “member” page, just in case off. Sometimes there is a number at the end of the URL which shouldn’t be…

    Activate debug mode and see if you receive somme other error msg
    https://codex.wordpress.org/WP_DEBUG

    If nothing works, read here and provide the whole bunch of information.

    Sorry, my english is a bit french! 😉 Is this really unclear:
    So you have nothing other to do as to create them from the settings page.

    And you have nothing to activate in the menu.
    The log-in option in the menu exist if you prefer to get on the menu bar instead of a sidebar, throught the login widget.

    By default there is a login widgt in wordpres, another one in buddypress and if you use bbpress you get a third. But there is no need to use and activate all.

    For the naming, you can use what you want, but be aware that naming vocabulary can easily conflict with coding language such as php. And log in (or loggin, log-in,….) is one of these dangereous word. Avoid !

    In the menu settings you can link to the activity page, not to a specific activity (so far i know).

    I posted 3 snippets on Github to test and choose what you need/prefer to use.

    Copy/paste the code into bp-custom.php

    Hi @ebellempire,

    If you use BP 2.0+, this changeset would interrest you highly.

    i don’t use iphone so i cannot help for this.
    But if you use two different DB, it could be possible that they have not the same version # or the same table type (myisam vs. innodb for ex.). Such details can explain why you get some behaviour issue with apparently the same settings…
    Are you on a VPS, dedicated or on a shared host ? Because 2 sites on the same host are not obligatory on the same server.

    That said, it’s not an allergy against iphones who can be generated by this trouble. 😉
    Have you js errors somewhere (check this in a desktop PC) or an unupdated browser in your mobile ?
    Have you tried with an android or a smartphone ?

    @danbp

    Participant

    With BuddyPress you don’t need the profile builder plugin. BP has is own profile component (xprofile) to do this.

    After i create Register or Activate page, they show up in the main web-site menu, but as soon as I associate them with BP, they disappear.
    Normal: it is intended so ! 😉

    Once created, both page won’t show up in the menu buider (dashboard > appearence > menus)
    So you have nothing other to do as to create them from the settings page.
    These page are only visible in the pages list, but they are blank and should stay blank. No template, no any other association. Component pages are only for internal purpose.

    Hi @adjunkten,

    Yes ! But you cannot use a variable (current user) in a ordinary menu. So the question is,
    where do you need this menu ?

    Hi @rossagrant,

    can you make a test with the trunk version ?

    Many details have been modified around the load more area.
    Are you aware that bp-default is no more included in BuddyPress ? (yes, probably 😉 )
    The future of the bp-default theme
    I’m affraid that compatibility issues have not the priority for the moment, bp-default is a few step away to be added to the wordpress.org theme repo and BP itself is in a cleaning stage from this theme.

    FYI, see also these tickets
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5629
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5687
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/5779

    Both sites are on the same server with the same settings. But do they use the same DB ?
    Have you tried to activate/deactivite the load more option in BP’s settings ? Maybe mobile devices don’t support a 5 mn latency ? Or some weird cookie issue ?

    is it important for you to use a /wordpress/ directory for after that to obfuscate it ?
    Install WP at the site root and things will go better, also for BP.
    Something like /htdocs/ or /www/

    @iryna_b,

    if you tried couple of times, have you deleted some component pages and recreate them ? If yes, it is possible that these delayed pages are still in the trash. If so, you have to clear it.

    Now that you’re sure to have only one page for registration and one for activation, recheck your WP settings, the permalinks (anything but not by default), deactivate all plugins except BP and activate the 2014 theme and check if something changed.
    If ok, reactivate your plugins one by one, and depending the result, you contact the plugin author or the theme support and ensure yourself it is compatible with buddypress.

    For the 2nd question: yes !

    New post or a page publication is made by WordPress, not by BuddyPress.
    The only pages BP needs are those created for each activated component. The content of these page is generated dynamically, depending of the context, and in fact, these pages are only intended for internal purpose, to fit with WordPress’s fonctionnalities.
    In a few words, BP is using the wp page system, but doesn’t use a page like WP.
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Pages

    So the question is how to allow your users to publish a blog post directly from the frontend.
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/front-end-publishing/

    For pages, it’s a bit more delicate.
    WordPress pages are generally used for displaying static content. That’s why publishing pages is under the responsability of the site owner and/or an editor, but not allowed (by default) for authors or contributors. Also, accessing to pages will need some menu adjustment.

    I wouldn’t recommend to let your authors handle pages.
