    Hi,

    bp’s Usermenu is added to wp_admin_menu on the Toolbar, under Howdy. This BP menu ID is “my-account”.

    When you’re on a profile page, you see also these items in the Buddymenu, below the profile header cover.

    Some working examples here:
    Remove an item from Usermenu

    Remove an item from Buddymenu

    Since 2.6, BuddyPress use a navigation API. See here for many use case.

    Read also WP codex about admin bar menus.

    Where to put BuddyPress custom code ?
    Usually into bp-custom.php. This file is to BP code what a child theme is to a theme: a safe place with high priority where nothing get to loose when an update occurs !

    Child’s functions.php should be reserved to whatever you need for the theme itself.
    That said, it can happen(rarely) that some custom code won’t work from within bp-custom. In this case, feel free to remove it from bp-custom and give it a try inside child’s functions.php.

    As novice, you’re invited to read BP and WP codex if you want to customize.

    Hi,

    the function name contains current_user. So it seems you have to check the capability of the current_user, one cap by one, and not for all his capabilities.

    Try if( bp_current_user_can( 'editor' ) || ( bp_current_user_can( 'author') || and so on...) )
    or better bp_current_user_can( 'bp_moderate' ).

    More details about bp_current_user_can are given by @jjj(BP project lead) in this topic.

    To clarify the situation, in the first topic you mention “administrator” and “editor”, which are WP roles.

    In the second topic you speak about profile types. Sorry for this question, but do you mean you’ve created new WP roles or did you created some member types ?
    This is ambigous. Give details please.

    It’s important to know because WP roles and member_types are absolutely not the same thing as they don’t work identical.

    Default WP role of a BuddyPress member is “subscriber”.
    If you create a member type Teacher and asign it to a user, you then have a subscriber with a member type of Teacher.

    At this stage, you can eventually sort your members by type, but they don’t have any additionnal capability outside those allowed for “subscriber”.

    In the same way, you can have users with “author” or “editor” (wp) role and give them a Teacher member type.

    In this case, you have subscribers, authors and editors listed/appearing/or whatever inside BP as Teacher, and for each role, what they can do inside WP.

    No plugin, just a setting ! You can create a hidden group for these users.

    Hidden groups are invisible to non-members. These group names and descriptions are not listed in sitewide directories, and their contents are accessible only to members of the group. Because the group is unlisted, users cannot request membership. Instead, individuals can only join the group by invitation.

    As often with customization, it’s a matter of compromise… By default you see the nesting. Now you have a comment toggle.

    This is wrong: There is no distinction IDs & classes between comments and replies.

    The comment button code is
    <a href="<?php bp_activity_comment_link(); ?>" class="button acomment-reply bp-primary-action" id="acomment-comment-<?php bp_activity_id(); ?>"><?php printf( __( 'Comment %s', 'buddypress' ), '<span>' . bp_activity_get_comment_count() . '</span>' ); ?></a>

    The reply link code is
    <a href="#acomment-<?php bp_activity_comment_id(); ?>" class="acomment-reply bp-primary-action" id="acomment-reply-<?php bp_activity_id(); ?>-from-<?php bp_activity_comment_id(); ?>"><?php _e( 'Reply', 'buddypress' ); ?></a>

    At least there is a difference in the ID’s ! No ? πŸ™‚

    That said, you have only one activity and X comments for it. That replies are for the activity itself or replies to replies (to replies to replies of replies etc) inside that activity, makes no difference. All this is considered as a conversation attached to this activity.

    Each comment/reply has is own ID. But toggling inside what i described before would be a bit complicated.

    If you have long discussion inside your site activity, perhaps consider this plugin

    Hi,

    if you had read the plugin support, you certainly would have found a link to a fixed copy in a topic marked [resolved] related to Breaks Boss theme with Buddypress 2.6.1.

    Here’s the direct link(zip) on Github to this updated version by @r-a-y. Before using it, rename the folder to bp-group-hierarchy.

    I tested it with latest WP/BP/2016 and it works as expected.

    According to your specifications:

    1) We would like that user after purchase of one of those services could access to a private page where he can manage what he have purchased.

    2) We would like to have freedom to put personalized content on user private pages.

    3) We need in particular that a user could use a contact form tu send us extra information on services configuration.

    Solution:
    1) woocommerce + some page privacy settings
    2) wordpress configuration
    3) a contact form ?

    I would say you don’t need BuddyPress for that. Confirmed by your statement:
    We don’t need to have interaction between user, like a forum or a social network.

    Read about BuddyPress.

    Perhaps simply use a show/hide comments button ?

    Hi, glad it works for you.

    The visual editor use TinyMCE wich comes with his own ID and class. That works with WP, but not with BP who use his own id’s and JS on activity page.

    Tweaking JS files is delicate and that’s why i said “deactivate the visual tab”. You should use the filter i indicated to remove it completely (so nobody would be tempted to click it).
    But if you’re comfortable with JS, feel free to do it. But without any warranty (outside some headeache) about the final result as it will be very tricky to do.

    The media uploader is usually reserved to site admin, editors and authors when they post on the blog from backend. In our case, adding some styling possibilities to the what’s new content from frontend, is slightly different.

    Imagine all your xxx.xxxx members accessing to the media library without any control each time they write something! That’s a big security risk, because subscribers (wich is the default BP users level) could access to a part of your backend and also to your server.

    If you need full publication rights, create authors and let them publish real blog posts. But don’t use the what’s new form to replace this (complex) bloging functionnality.

    The text tab has already a bold button (b – the first one, on the left ).
    And you can embed links to images using the img button or embed different medias like video simply by copy/pasting a youtube link or other allowed services.

    Take also in mind that the default form comes without any style buttons. This trick add some.

    Guess you have to work with this compromise. IMO better as nothing, no ? Avoid reinventing the wheel ! Stay simple and your site will remain operable.

    Can you give an url so somebody can check what’s going on.

    If you need some tutorial, as you begin with BP, the best is to read from the codex.
    And that starts with Required !

    That is not possible for group users. These users are already listed as site users, where you already can bulk edit their roles.

    A BuddyPress Group is made of regular WP users. Being in a group doesn’t modify that, and that’s the reason why you have no role editor on the group user admin – other the ones belonging to groups (group admin or mod).
    Note also that a group admin is not a site-admin, just a regular member (subscriber by default).

    In other words, the group admin interface is made to manage group members only (no relation with WP and WP roles and capabilities).
    And WP’s members list is to manage site users, roles and capabilities.

    How can we know that, you don’t give details. Perhaps start you install correctly ?

    hi @tomx17,

    when you name a page Register, it’s slug must be register ! Not register-2.
    This comes also when you create several pages with the same name.
    And happens also when you delete register, omit to delete it permanently and recreate a new register page.

    You have also to setup permalinks to whatever but “default”.

    Before installing plugins, you have to check that WP and BP are working correctly together “out of the box”. That’s the best way to go safe, as the base install is ok BEFORE any additionnal plugin is installed – which is also much easier to debug in case of trouble.

    Deactivate all plugins and see WP and BP with 2014 as first.

    Which input are you talking about ?

    Change avatar or cover image upload only these file types: JPEG, GIF, PNG.
    Why would you change these img format ?

    You’re welcome. πŸ˜‰
    In case of, here’s another trick.

    @danbp

    Participant

    If you read BP auto join plugin description:
    Optionally determine which group to join based on Member Type, using our BuddyPress Member Types plugin.

    And as you have other conditions, you need Conditionnal profile fileds.

    Field Name Favourite Games
    select

    Condition
    If favourite is racing > Auto join Racing Group, it is music, join group music and so on

    Member Types to create
    arcade, action, sports, racing, music

    But i can’t learn you more. You have to experiment with all this to find the best compromise.

    Try

    function authorlink_my() {
    $name = get_the_author();
    $url = bp_core_get_user_domain( get_the_author_meta( 'ID' ) );

    	return '<a href="'. $url .'" title="Go to author\'s profile">'. $name .'\'s Profile</a>';
    }
    add_shortcode( 'authorlink', 'authorlink_my' );

    See these plugins

    but remember you asked first for Conditional select options […] πŸ˜‰

    Perhaps a CSS adjustment to do ?
    But first, revert to a twenty theme as it work’s now.
    If you see the button with Twenty, you have a theme issue.

    Reactivate your theme and check the page source code in your browser and verify that the button exist in the code.
    (../members/USRNAME/profile/change-cover-image/)

    This button is in a drag’n’drop area inside a script.
    If you see the code but don’t see the button displayed, you have to work your CSS to get it.
    Meanwhile you can try to add a picture by drag’n’drop even if you don’t see the button (it is only usefull in case drag’n’drop doesn’t work – ie when JS is deactivated).

    Can’t say more…

    Codex reference (in case of)

    You can download the modified js file (trunk:10207) here:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/src/bp-core/js/bp-plupload.js?rev=10207

    If it doesn’t work, revert back to original plupload.js and debug elsewhere.

    Youl’ll probably have to ask your theme support in that case.
    Activate also wp_debug in wp-config to eventl. get some other error msg.

    Hi @mikke1978,

    assuming each active BP component has his page and that this page is really unique and without any template assigned:

    – you have to setup pretty permalinks to an option other that “default”.

    Apparently you made something with your url configuration:
    – wordpress doesn’t use www by default.
    – all your components (activity, members and groups) are in /blog/ directory. By default, you should have http://your-site/activity.

    Not that all this cannot be done, but if you want it like this, you have to setup that correctly. This is no the case at the moment.
    Note also that BuddyPress does not work on installations where you give WordPress its own directory.

    The question is where is WP installed ? At the site root or in a /blog/ directory ?

    Open dashboard > General and check what is entered under site path and url and compare with what is in htaccess

    @danbp

    No sorry! If you have difficulty with a plugin, you have to ask on it’s support forum.

    This already exist on the admin Group page.
    When you edit an existing group (wp-admin/admin.php?page=bp-groups), you’ll see a list of all users belonging to that group.

    I can’t read the codex at your place but if you really did this:

    I’ve copied the entire BuddyPress plugin directory into my theme

    you started on the wrong side.

    BP Plugin directory ? Really ? Or bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/ directory ?
    Also you already hacked core files. This is not recommended at all anyway, and on a CMS, the form (template) is separated from the content (core)….
