In reply to: How do I customize this on Admin bar@shanebp thank you for submitting your article! I have updated the link you posted above to the new home under BP Plugin Development 🙂 Surrounded your code with [
php] [/php] . Looks nicer, no? 😀@luckskywalker thanks for posting sucess with code. Marking this topic as resolved.
In reply to: 404 Error when using toolbar/adminbar@chrisss1 How exactly did you enable pretty permalinks in your Windows server? Not going to work with BP if you just append index.php to the URL. See https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Permalinks_without_mod_rewrite
In reply to: HTTP Error 500 on Topics within "Group" Forums@rigormortis_uk glad you were persistent and resolved the group forums issue 🙂
I’m running WordPress 3.5.1, bbpress 2.3.2 and buddypress 1.8.1
I suggest updating your bbPress installation to version 2.4.1 as I remember that issue was fixed in the bbPress Trac sometime after bbPress 2.3.2. Also, I recommend updating your WP installation to the latest version as well. Of course, please back up before updating.
In reply to: Reset or Reinstall buddypress default theme@willandmae download BuddyPress https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress/
unzip in your hard drive and upload via s/FTP to your plugins directory folder in serverone of the plugins I wish would work just doesnt but when I deactivate it still must leave something behind because certain things like the submit button and other things gets messed up.
Which plugin was it?
In reply to: .htaccess rewrite rules@sooskriszta BP does not add any rule to your htaccess file. Pretty permalinks must be enabled, that’s it.
In reply to: HTTP Error 500 on Topics within "Group" Forums@rigormortis_uk have you checked what’s in your .htaccess file recently?
Have you tried backing up htaccess file, deleting it and then running Settings > Permalinks? In reply to: [Resolved] Register Page as Homepage redirect issueIn reply to: HTTP Error 500 on Topics within "Group" ForumsI’ve noticed under permalinks wordpress is complaining about access to the .htaccess file
@rigormortis_uk Did you change to a new theme or add any new plugins recently? Revert to old theme or Twenty Twelve theme and deactivate all other plugins except BuddyPress and bbPress then run Settings > Permalinks again.
In reply to: [Resolved] Forum root returns my WP Archive page!@antonyc Thank you for coming back and posting how the issue was resolved.
Marking this as resolved 🙂In reply to: BP breaks OP2 pages (a CSS issue)@gcbz BuddyPress is commpatible with nearly all WP themes. Other WP themes have their own proprietary templating system (instead of WP’s loop with the_title and the_content in the theme’s page.php file) which trips BP’s theme compatibility process.
One way to address the issue is by creating a new file named buddypress.php which would be a custom template for all BP content in your site. You’d need to copy the content of your theme’s page.php file and paste it into buddypress.php; then change proprietary template tags to the_title and the_content within the WP loop. After you’re done upload buddypress.php file into your theme’s folder in server.
Or you could customize each BP component in detail https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/theme-compatibility-1-7/template-hierarchy/
In reply to: Adding buddypress support to a normal theme?@uabassguy What theme are you using? What specifically are not working? Site URI?
In reply to: [Resolved] Forum root returns my WP Archive page! When I then activate my theme all works but the bbpress forum root – this again resolves as my blog archive, which is the same issue as reported in the thread link I posted earlier.
@antonyc it’s a theme issue then. Are you sure that you have the latest version of your Dynamix theme that’s supposed to be compatible with BP 1.8.1? If not, then you would have to update your theme. If you have an updated theme, then contact theme author or post in theme’s forums to resolve the issue.
In reply to: Missing Pages?@donnaperry after installing BuddyPress https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-components/
@rharejr as I recall you need to install the plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/genesis-connect-for-buddypress/ to make your Genesis child theme compatible with BuddyPress.
In reply to: [Resolved] Forum root returns my WP Archive page!@antonyc Disable all plugins except BuddyPress and bbPress and keep it on Twenty Twelve/Thirteen. If you’re going to change forum archive slug and create a new Page with the same new forums archives slug, you would have to re-run Permalinks again.
In reply to: [Resolved] Users cannot register@dsvay Looks like you’re missing the header section of your site on the registration page. Per the premium theme’s description, Dynamix is supposed to be compatible with BuddyPress.
Change to Twenty Twelve/Thirteen theme and check if registration works then. If registration works then, contact theme author about the issue. If not, then deactivate other plugins to identify which is conflicting with BP.

In reply to: Custom Template@buddhatunes not familiar with how Buddyboss is wired. But it should follow template hierarchy supported of BP https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/theme-compatibility-1-7/template-hierarchy/
In reply to: [Resolved] Forum root returns my WP Archive page!if its slug is different to the Forum Root Slug in the settings page
What exactly is your forum archive slug – Forums or Discussions? Not sure how could it have the same slug as archive page unless you named the forum root “Archive”.
– try creating a new page named Discussions and publish
– go to Settings > bbPress and set the forum archive slug to discussions
– now go edit Discussions page and add the bbPress shortcode
– open up the page e.g. example.com/discussions/In reply to: Installing on site@hollyspress or check out documentation at https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-components/
In reply to: [Resolved] Forum root returns my WP Archive page!Unfortunately I couldn’t migrate bbpress to buddypress and so deleted bbpress (and my buddypress forums) to go for a fresh install.
No migration needed, both plugins work together https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
My issue is that when I navigate to the root forum directory it returns my WP archives page!
If you followed instructions from link above, what slug do you have for your forum archive? Did you create a page specifically with that slug for your forum index and added shortcodes to show all forums and/or topics
