as you suggest, Obi Wan
In reply to: bbpress 1.0 integrates well nowBurt – Oddly, my bbPress run Group Forums have been running nicely since day one. I am still on alpha6 of bbPress and because it’s been working well now for 6 months, I am actually afraid to upgrade bbPress version up to 1.0 for fear of mucking it all up. What do you think? Any idea what we get by bbPress going 1.0?
In reply to: registration YIKESApologies if my reported problem is the same as this one: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3306 . They seem related.
also – just discovered the Dev site has the same problem. So it could be my theme or it could be wpmu/bp 1.01
In reply to: bp-photo what a GREAT plugin!@Burt – User tagging, as I see it, is exactly like Facebook’s User tagging: 1. user uploads photo 2. anyone with viewing rights on photo can hover over photo and see a square around something id’d as a person 3. you are then presented with a list of your friends to “tag” that user in the photo.
It’s viral. People upload their own photos and tag themselves and friends & family. That links and notifies all those members they were “tagged” in a photo. Others view the photo, perhaps recognize themselves or someone and then do some tagging as well (presuming the image tagging isn’t complete.
While I think FB uses some recognition technology to determine how many humans are in the photo but it ends there. You would really only need the ability to mark a section of the image so pics with multiple persons would be identifiable.
I hope this clarifies.
In reply to: bp-photo what a GREAT plugin! Thanks to @jeffsayre for pointing this out. I miss so much when my head is down!
@burtadsit – I know you component is very focused on tagging content. Could yours be used to help Manoj allow for the use of “user tagging” which could go a long way in communities (such as our Alumni site) where there will be many pictures with multiple members submitted and then tagged by users (a la Facebook). Of course topical tagging would be useful as well.
SWA could read ” Burt Adsit was tagged in a Photo” etc
In reply to: BuddyPress 1.0 Has Arrivedwoot!
In reply to: Autocomplete for message not workingI can add that, while my Autocomplete works for some members, it does not for others. It doesn’t matter if they are “friends” or not. While you can work around this by going to the profile and sending a message, there is no way to send a message to multiple members if they don’t come up in auto complete
In reply to: Re-submit friend requestwill do. Thanks, Jeff
In reply to: Re-submit friend requestWhat does a regular member do?
In reply to: Group Forum Topic permalink issueDisregard prev post. Resolved. stale file lurking in Member theme. akin to the device not being plugged in when you make a service call
In reply to: How to use full name, first name + last nameI’m sure you can but I haven’t looked at xprofile_fields just yet. A bunch of other problems to solve. Burt Adsit might be able to help
In reply to: How to use full name, first name + last nameWhy don’t you just add two additional profile fields (last name & first name) , make them required so they show up on registration and then write a custom function to tweak the sign up email?
btw, this is standard across a lot of social media sites. Look at Facebook – aside from the fact that they login with email instead of username, they also have display name, first and last….just like BP can have. Make FullName your Display name.
In reply to: registration fieldsMichael – I installed the premium plugin and can confirm it does not work fully with BP….yet. It properly sets up the fields for password input BUT, BP seems to override the setting when all is said and done. I was able to login with the password BP emailed me and not the one I set manually. Thinking a tweak to this plugin still has promise though
We have a working custom function on our BP site that does the following:
1. notifies all members of a Group when a
a. new topic is created
b. post occurs on a topic in the group
We are in the process of adding the capability of a user to control these settings as well. We will post the code when we are finished, unless of course, Andy beats us to it and then we’ll use his!
FYI – it dramatically increases forum participation
In reply to: please help: Choosing a HostGoDaddy is horrendous for service and support and the garish and disorganized site is enough to induce headaches. Hostgator is fantastic but they host so much porn that the Govt and military block all sites hosted by them (I have 1st hand experience with this) . I am now at Liquidweb and which i had chosen them before the other 2. Off the charts customer support and reasonable pricing
In reply to: The most stupid question…:-)It’s not a stupid question but you might find better success at getting help, in addition to doing a service to your fellow BP peeps by actually putting the subject of your problem as the Title of the post. Of course, I just clicked out of curiosity but I doubt that’s what you wanted
In reply to: Topic escape charactersI just hope Andy realizes there is a Slash1000 model also roaming around that can transform itself into escape characters of all shapes and sizes. Scary.
In reply to: Lost Password is crazyI have experienced this phenom a lot as an admin as well. I am also a believer that the user should set their password on signup.
In reply to: BP internal message usabilityAndy – just caught your reply (a by product of the no email notification capabilities of forum posts – we are working on that as an added feature)
Will now add this as an enhancement
In reply to: Screenshot – Buddypress Demo?!looks the same to me. maybe its widget sare just rearranged differently than you are used to?
In reply to: Announcing BuddyPress Group Forums for bbPressBurt – Congrats on what appears to be a successful plugin. Could you humor me? I don’t quite understand the use case for it. Is it for folks who want to leave the confines of the BP Group forums and interact via the bbPress door to the same forums? I don’t deny that someone would but I’m not sure why since they can do it right there in BP (at least on my site)
In reply to: procedure for removing Admin Bar Sub Nav itemBurt – sorry for the late reply – much much clearer – Thank you
In reply to: REQUEST Photo Albums (Plugin)I’d add image tagging a la facebook. That has the biggest engagement value I have seen thus far
In reply to: Member activity cache problemAndy – When I wrote the 2nd post, I was on 901. Am on 914 now. Will keep an eye open. Thanks.
