The wpmu forums are full of this kind of problem. They all seem to have the same source, the .htaccess file. Can you post your .htaccess file and tell us what kind of installation you are using?

subdomain or subdirectory?

Dedicated virtual server or shared hosting?

Is wpmu installed in the root or a subdir?

That might help.
