  • The Forums in BuddyPress 1.5 are in a transition, so it’s important to be as specific as you can about what you’re experiencing.

To clarify, both Group and Site Wide Forums should be creating activity stream items. At no point should Group Forums not create activity. Site Wide forum activity logging might stop working if BuddyPress needs a database update.

If mentions and favorites aren’t working either, it leads me to believe something else is not working properly in your installation. Conflicting plugins or invalid file uploads somewhere possibly.

    Hi Fraser,

You should be given a crop screen after uploading your avatar where you can drag a square over the portion of the image you’d like to use.

If this is not the case it sounds like an issue with the theme you’re using – you’re best getting in touch with the people that developed it. Alternatively you can activate the default buddypress theme and try to customise that to suit your needs.

    Hope this helps,
    Laurie

Hi @modemlooper thank you for the reply! Very important to us to get this solved

No, we haven’t. We are out of our depth. We will give it a try, but I have two questions:
1] Where do we paste that line? just above <link rel="pingback" href="” /> for example?
2] How do I set up email notifications so that I know immediately that this thread has a new comment posted?

Hi, just found this post and tried adding the line of code to my functions.php but it doesn’t get rid of the view dropdown.

I added the line of code
    `remove_action( ’bp_adminbar_menus’, ’bp_adminbar_random_menu’, 100 );`

    to the file /wp-content/themes/[theme name]/functions.php

    Is this correct?

alphonse.tan, what is the slug/name of the page that you’ve assigned to the “Groups” component in wp-admin > BuddyPress > Components? Changing that should update menus etc

FYI, BuddyPress trunk is a bit tricky at the moment to install/upgrade. There’s some sort of intermittent failure during the install process. You’ve been warned :)

Forums for Groups and Sitewide Forums are definitely working in WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5.1 and bbPress 2.0
    BP Codex – https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

The BuddyPress demo site at http://testbp.org/ is on:
“This site is running the most recent nightly development versions of BuddyPress and WordPress and should be considered mostly stable with a chance of rain.
    WordPress 3.3-aortic-disection
    BuddyPress 1.6-bleeding
    bbPress 2.1-bleeding”

Per your screencast, you’re using WP 3.3 beta 3. Are you using trunk versions of BuddyPress 1.6 and bbPress 2.1 as well? Having asked that, no guarantees until all are stable.

Please clarify which forum setup you have based on the four available setups here https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

I have exactly the same problem. When I try to post in a group forum I get:

“This group does not have a forum setup yet.”

If I try to do it from the global forums page section, I get this:

“Please pick the group forum where you would like to post this topic.” (I did! ¬¬)

No need to say that of course I had forum enabled option on the group… I’ve been working on this problem for several hours and I’m about getting crazy.

When I installed forums option on Buddypress I did the following:

    1. Installed forums for all the website (downloaded bbPress, installed and activated)
    2. Installed forums for groups (instead of “using an existing installation option”)

I think the problem is maybe on not using the “existing installation option”).

I’m about becoming crazy (and blind), but the only solution I see is locating the database entry on phpMyadmin and fixing it, but I couldn’t find where this options are in there.

    Some help pleeeeease? Thanks… :(

@davidtcarson bravo to your theme.. i am currently using it with a wp 3.2.1 and bp 1.5.. it’s practically working fine.. and i am very happy with it..

there’s just one thing.. i converted all “groups” into “companies” and with the bp-default theme menus each and every link is working.. but with the frisco sub-menu… (please refer to this page..http://www.entrepnegosyo.com/members/alphonse/companies/) you can see that, it is still saying “Groups” and not “Companies”.. i have been searching from within the bp-default theme and within our great theme.. but to no avail..

Any assistance to point me in the right direction would be most appreciated..

    Thanks and more power… :)

    many thanks @aces !!
    respect man :)

I haven’t tried it yet as I wanted to see if there was an alternative way of backing up just the file/s I am working on, in the past, I’ve encountered site breaks during custom, and have developed a bad habit of doing full cpanel backups following these breaks. This has led to me losing several new member registrations on my site.

Is there an alternative method I can adopt – i.e. doing a copy of file first and saving it to a backup folder for instance, so that if something goes wrong I can just replace the file instead of restoring the whole public_html directory?

excuse my lack of back-ticks, it’s been a while..I’m a bit rusty lol

I would do it as another theme bundled in the plugin if its getting put into core. I suggested header/ no header and left or right sidebar as options.

Whether/whenever theme compatibility is fully implemented in BP, bp-default will have to stay around, in some form or other, for the purposes of backward compatibility. If the kind of rewrite that you’re talking about is able to maintain this backpat, I don’t see any reason why what you’re proposing couldn’t become part of bp-default itself.

“Decisions not options” is a nice general strategy, but I’m unwilling to dismiss the possibility of including some well-chosen theme options just because of that strategy. If you can come up with some simple options that help you achieve your goals, please feel free to pitch them.

As for your last question, bp-default is licensed under the same GPL as the rest of BP, so you can do whatever you’d like with it :)

I don’t think it will be an issue later on as bbpress is using the page.php templates and get_template to output content. So as long as page.php is included it should work even better on various screens. The main issue when dealing with mobile and WordPress/BuddyPress is header(nav) and sidebar.

Maybe bp-default should be rebuilt from ground up with mobile in mind for 1.7’s templating?

Finally I`ve found the problem, I was editing the header.php with TextEdit (mac os) ,
With dreamweaver the file is showing correctly ,
TextEdit needs some extra configuration to show html files, It is necessary to check in the preferences
—-“When opening a file”: Ignore rich text commands in HTML files

thanks to mercime , @modemlooper, megainfo and aces!!!!!

While you’re thinking about this, remember that 1.7 is going to have templating like bbPress has.

    > Other ideas could be build in some simple theme options like Twenty-Eleven does.
    Decisions, not options.

I just downloaded a copy of buddypress from the ‘Manual Download’ button on https://buddypress.org/download/ and it was the same as my svn link above.

If your file is different, then there may be other files that are also different!

    voted x3 on this too!

The other thing I was thinking about looking at was this….

    http://stescodes.com/invitefriends.aspx

    a one-off payment but I’m unsure how complex it would be to integrate…when I asked the developer about buddypress/wordpress they said;

“It is very easy to integrate our code, we provide sample code in working condition. Once you run the code by settings the API configuration based on your account, you will be able to integrate with your code easily.

Furthermore, we provide developer guide documentation and also tutorial videos too.

Note: Please let us know if you need any help or further details.”

    ….not much info lol!

Thanks aces, maybe i´m a little bit slow , but my /bp-themes/bp-default/header.php says just what I wrote before, I download another copy of buddypress to see if it was different but is the same file that I have described to you.
Should I copy the code that you send me, in my header.php file?
    Thank you!

I just found a work around. I created the forum topic from within the group, which sidesteps the “which group” question and seems to have worked.

Same problem here. I must say I am getting very skeptical. I can’t have this kind of nonsense with users. Can someone lend a hand here? Thanks!
