That’s just the way it works. By default, the BuddyPress front page is not the user’s profile page.

You can either edit/create bp-custom.php in the plugins directory or use a plugin that someone has created like bp-profile-as-homepage. If you look at the code for this plugin (one short php file), it is very simple. It taps into a wordpress hook to add a check to see if the user is logged in and if so whether the current page is the front page. If it is, then it redirects to the user’s profile page. That seems to be what you want.

@nahummadrid – nice solution. It’s concise, and responsive (VERY important). Every other solution I’ve tested slows down the text input to a crawl, which isn’t acceptable for a public site and will really annoy anyone who types with all their fingers. I haven’t encountered the issue to which you alluded re. users breaking the limit with copy/paste. It’s working flawlessly. Thanks a bunch for it.

@justbishop – yes, the code display has been mangled by wp texturise, and contains a cpl small errors. Here it is clean:

Incidentally, I think it’s best to place the script itself in entry.php, not post-form.php (assuming you’re also setting a character limit on replies). The reason for this is that it should only be loaded once, and if you place it in post-form.php it won’t be available on an individual activity page (ie. the page you get when you click the “View” link), but if you place it in entry.php it will be loaded when viewing the activity stream, and also when viewig the individual activity.

1. Create a child theme of bp-default

I am really trying to understand this one, however, I cannot get it. All logins should redirect to the user profile, because that is why a user uses your site in the first place. They care about their information, not the websites general data. I have seen many posts about this, but why does BuddyPress think it’s not the case that a user should redirect to their info?

Is there a way to code this, without getting into BuddyPress and later regretting it. I don’t want to use anymore plugins.

@boonebgorges I agree with you. Fortunately, new version of Platform theme (1.3) has been submitted in WP theme review queue and author has removed “buddypress” tag when I checked it. I guess he “heard” you

To troubleshoot, deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and change to bp-default theme. You will note that sidebar widgets will not disappear when you move from one BP component to the other. Then activate fishbook theme, then plugins one at a time to determine what is causing erratic behavior in your site.

@jonobradley two points mainly:

1. Platform theme should not have been tagged buddypress at all. I agree with Boone – https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/cant-get-to-bp-from-wp/#post-100830

2. As to the HTML part. Since you want to use that theme, you would have to check theme’s
– header.php (from up to what HTML tag is covered by this file) and
– footer.php ( from what HTML tag to closing is covered by this file) then
– look at source code of your site online, copy it and delete HTML covered by header.php then delete HTML covered by footer.php
– delete content area and what remains is the markup you will be using to impose on BP template pack files transferred to your active WP theme folder in server.

Since theme author has deigned to tag his theme as “buddypress” he should provide documentation on how it could truly be BuddyPress-compatible.

Sorry, forgot about the sidebar issue

The easiest way to duplicate the layout of your site pages in permalink.php is to copy page.php and replace the contents in that file with the contents from permalink.php, keeping the container structure and sidebar calls from page.php intact, then rename that new file permalink.php to overwrite the old one. Keep a backup of your original permalink.php in case stuff gets screwed up

Tried to implement this, but I’m wondering if the code was mangled a bit on the post that @nahummadrid linked to. It doesn’t seem to want to work for me.

Could @aljuk elaborate on the unforseen complications that arose from replacing the appropriate strings in bp-blogs/bp-blogs-templatetags.php etc. ?

@hal9000 to get alternating colors on any of your loops (activity, members, groups, blog listings, forums, whatever)… using this code (uses CSS3)

in the default.css stylesheet of the buddypress default theme… you should find on line 396:

replace that with this:

border-bottom: none;
background: green;
}

and wolla!! ofcourse… please change the red and green to the colors of your theme… also, if you need it specifically for members, or groups, etc… then in the source code of each page , for eg, in groups, it is under a particular id: groups-list… put the styles under that id and so on.. hope that makes sense to you.
