In reply to: 404 error page on most buddypress links

MemberHad the same problem on a fresh BP 1.2.8 install on a fresh WP 3.1. Changed theme to bp default, changed permalink settings, made sure .htaccess contained rewrite rules as generated by BP. mod_rewrite was definitely activated. However, the .htaccess in the BP root (a subdirectory under a local domain) was not evaluated at all. Ubuntu 10.04 server edition, everything installed via packet management except for WP/BP which were simply unzipped from the download archives.
This entry in httpd.conf helped:
~~
`
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride FileInfo Options
Allow from all
`
~~Change the root dir of bp accordingly. After that all the links on tabs, registration etc. worked fine.

KeymasterCan you report this as a bug on http://trac.buddypress.org? I think BuddyPress needs a pass-through to check where we should be using SSL.

ParticipantThis could be an approach: http://cleverness.org/2010/08/08/add-user-types-to-wordpress-and-buddypress/ (works with 3.1 multisite). It does not add pages but gives you the possibility to show profile-field-groups depending on the chosen user-role.

KeymasterNot as far as I’m aware, and I’m not sure anonymous activity stream posts would even work with BuddyPress. I think things would break.

MemberHi @DJPaul ! Here is the url I am getting: http://www.terrorsofmen.com/wp-content/uploads/avatars/2/94984fdedaabe60ce4c75a47307d2eba-bpthumb.jpg
it Needs to be: http://www.terrorsofmen.com/wp-content/uploads/avatars/2/94984fdedaabe60ce4c75a47307d2eba-bpfull.jpg
I need bpfull instead of bpthumb. I have tried every combination I can think of with ‘type=full’ ‘size=full’ ‘full’ etc but no luck. If you have any idea I’d really appreciate it, my site goes live tomorrow and I’d like to have the avatars looking nice.
Thanks!!

ParticipantI am a complete newbie when it comes to this. I tried to utilize the funciton you created above and it results in an error: Unexpected return.
I imagine I am missing something obvious but here is my code:
`function my_blog_avatar_1( $old_avatar ) {
bp_core_fetch_avatar( array( ‘item_id’ => ‘1’, ‘type’ => $type, ‘alt’ => $alt, ‘width’ => $width, ‘height’ => $height, ‘class’ => $class ) ) // Do some stuff to get the avatar you want, then
return $new_avatar;
}
add_filter( ‘bp_get_blog_avatar_1?, ‘my_blog_avatar_1’ );`Thanks in advance for your help.

MemberI am using wordpress 3.0. I have enabled the user to register by using superadmin=> options=> Registration Settings=>
Allow new registrations=> User accounts may be registered. But still I could not get the functionality of buddypress. I have used directory structure for multisite. Is this prevent the activity of buddypress? Is there any other configuration setting?March 2, 2011 at 8:10 am #106656In reply to: Changing Group tab display defaults

MemberHello There, so im new to BuddyPress…Trying to set up a site and what i am finding is with this S2member/Buddypress Collaboration. Basically when i go on my site which i have set up and try to register as a general “subscriber or something it tells me an activation email has been sent but i never actually receive one.
I have tried on multiple accounts but i am having no luck whatsoever. Any ideas?
Thanks

KeymasterYou will need to configure WordPress to allow user registrations.
To install the forums, after you’ve activated BuddyPress, go to the Network dashboard (I am assuming you are on WordPress 3.1), go to the “BuddyPress” menu item and then “Forum Setup.”March 2, 2011 at 5:54 am #106653In reply to: user profile sign-up

KeymasterGo back to the default (unedited) theme, disable any plugins other than BuddyPress, and try again. If it still doesn’t work, are there any messages in your web server’s error log.

The docs are fairly thorough, and assuming you’ve correctly installed buddypress and bbPress forum integration, the forums should appear along with all the other newly created pages – i.e. – example.com/forum, example.com/groups. If these pages are not appearing in your navigation, your wordpress theme may not be compatible with wordpress. In this case you could switch to a theme designed for BP or work to make your current theme compatible.
Also, make sure these components are enabled in the buddypress admin dashboard settings. If you feel you’ve done everything correctly, you should be able to create new groups by going to yoursite.com/groups and clicking the new group button that appears at the top of the page.

ModeratorMost WP plugins will work. BuddyPress is just a WP plugin with special template tags and a whole lots-O-whizbang!
If you click extend above you can see that a lot of those plugins are just WP plugins that have been tagged BP as they work.

ParticipantYou seem to be having difficulty with the basics. May I suggest switching to an easier theme to customize?
I designed BuddyLite with newbies in mind (like me!) You can get a similar look and feel as your current theme, while taking full advantage of WP3 custom menus, and a bunch of basic customization options through a simple admin panel.
You can download it here: http://buddylite.com/buddylite-basic/
