    Right then folks just a little heads up to my now resolved issue.

    I had initially installed WordPress through my hosting cPanel Softaculous script installer. This appeared to have caused the issues.

    After reading the documentation and other forum posts it had become clear instead of using my hosting self install script I should download WordPress manually and install manually too. The same should be done with BuddyPress.

    I can’t answer as to what causes this through using a self install script but I can confirm that it fully resolved it.

    So yes OK I had to do a complete re-installation but at least my site was a fresh install in the first place to start again and repair.

    Encountering this issue has given me the stance that I will manually install in future as opposed to cPanel self installation.

    Thanks for an excellent BuddyPress and I hope I can become a valued member of these forums and BuddyPress!

    Regards,

    Gaz

    I have been looking for hours to find a solution to this, if you mean so that users in BuddyPress can repost other users activity.

    It baffles me that there isn’t a good solution that has been built by someone, i would pay for premium plugin if it worked properly.

    Here is a close solution i found, however it doesn’t allow for sharing of images and hasn’t got much support.

    you need to read up about scaling wordpress and not just buddypress tbh, i have been doing a good bit of research on the matter recently, there is alot to it! I suggest as henry and shane says, you need to create a good infastructure of servers, i would suggest getting a setup where you can have one server running as a dedicated database server independently whilst having a few other servers for specific tasks within the network such as file servers and firewalls etc, there are solutions out there but they can be costly and you will need to be a dab hand with linux to pull it off as a one man team, maybe the best way to deal with these issues is first get to the point where you will need to worry about doing it, if you had that sort of regular users within your website im sure you could hire a team to do it with the revenue it would generate if setup right.

    @mmaccou i have been experimenting with the early release of mediapress created by brajesh at buddydev and it is a very promising plugin and most of brejesh’s plugins are very good however i would say that it is not yet where it needs to be for use on a live site as he is working hard to make it more complete but i have faith that it will be the best media plugin when its finished and not in the beta stages

    i myself would try rtmedia for the free version for now if it works for you because i have tried every single media plugin and none are really that great at the minute, activity plus is an awesome plugin but for some reason the guys at wpmu dev do not see the need even though many many many people have already asked about them including a gallery so that the images the user posts in the stream or in a group are linked to a user and they dont just get lost in the stream forever like they do now, why they dont add this feature is beyond me tbh?

    i cannot use rtmedia myself even though i would do if i could, because it clashes with a custom plugin i have that i need and both the rtmedia team and my plugin dev cant fix the issue between them lol so its one or the other

    i was using buddydevs other media plugin that is paid for bpgallery which i cannot recommend even though it was a brilliant plugin it stops working on the latest buddypress and i think brajesh hasnt updated it due to working on mediapress to replace it, i do have another plugin that i have been helping test out that noone else has got due to it being discontinued but i have been helping a dev test it while he fixes it bits at a time and this even includes tagging, but again its not ready for a live site release, its so frustrating about the lack of fully functional media plugins and i hear ya, i know there is a frk of buddypics by modemlooper that also works quite well but again its very limited in what it can do, hope this helps you a little and saves you the time i have spent looking for solutions that i am not yet 100 percent happy with but have to make do with for now 🙂

    @hami007 best thing to do would be scrap the free hosting for a start as when errors like this occur you may find you are limited in what you can do to troubleshoot issues, like hugo said it sounds like you need to check all your plugins 1 by 1 as a starting point then i would at least look into some cheap basic hosting rather than free, there are some great deals on shared hosting around that are really really cheap but to be honest running wordpress and buddypress on shared hosting further down the line will probably end up failing you due to restrictions and overuse of the server etc etc, at least look into getting an half decent vps server to start off with and learn the basics of server maintenance before moving on to the likes of dedicated servers etc though, i jumped straight from shared to dedicated and found myself lost and at mercy to linux as a novice user, so i decided to take 8 months time out and learn everything about linux server hardening and security i could alongside the correct way to set everything up for running multiple wordpress websites etc etc, it all sounds daunting at first but if you stick with it or at least move away from free hosting it will be worth it with time and effort. just a little advice for you before looking for a real hosting solution as i kinda jumped into the deep end, as i have read so many stories of people who went and got a good deal on a dedicated server etc that didnt have a clue how to use it but found themselves in a 12 month contract, luckily i wanted to spend the time learning myself so it paid off for me.

    It won’t be easy.

    You’ll have to determine who is creating a message and who the recipients are.
    And then check for an existing thread id.
    If it doesn’t, allow a new thread.
    If it does, change it from new to reply.
    You’ll need to thoroughly review the code in buddypress/bp-messages to get an idea of how it works and which hooks are available for use.

    Great, very helpful thanks.

    Do you think it’d be possible to just use a user-role plugin and revoke BuddyPress permissions to all except paid members? Or does BuddyPress not have such permissions available?

    Any examples of the kind of functions you mentioned that I could reference? Not meaning to get too greedy though…

    I greatly appreciate your assistance!

    Oh, well that would work fine. I can easily specify the user role when people are registered, and only assign the BuddyPress designated role to those who pay the appropriate subscription…how complex is it to configure BuddyPress to only enroll specific user roles?

    >when you use BuddyPress do all users accounts automatically become BuddyPress users?

    Yes, but you can filter them out based on things like membership level.
    It requires custom code that is specific to your install.

    @Asynaptic , I understand, I have been checking fragment cache also. Oki, so the only thing a need to do for is to activate the wt3c page but only for ignore logged in users. For I want that my wordpress part should be cached and leave buddypress and bbpress out of the cache. What settings should be set then..?

    For your situation, it would be easier to use a template overload.

    Then you can arrange the header exactly as you want it.

    And you should not be using add_filter.
    Filters change the markup output.

    You should use add_action.
    Maybe this hook in member-header: do_action( 'bp_before_member_header_meta' );
    Or add your own do_action hook in your template overload.

    It can be rather complex.
    And you don’t want to call a whole WP page into that area.
    You only want part of that page, probably the_content.
    The easiest way is to simply put your markup up in a function…

    function my_invitation_template() {
      add_action( 'bp_template_content', 'my_invitation_template_content' );
      bp_core_load_template( apply_filters( 'bp_core_template_plugin', 'members/single/plugins' ) );
    }

    function my_invitation_template_content() {
      echo "put content here";
    }

    To call a custom template, do a search for bp_get_template_part.

    I found it!

    The plugin which causes this issue is: BuddyPress Friends On-line (FOL)
    Deactivating it the button turns back to normal “Cance Friendship”

    I hope this info will help other people 🙂

    Any caching plugin will ignore (or should ignore) logged in users and not present them a cached version.

    The only way to get around this is to use fragment caching which is when you take parts of the web page which do not change, even if the user is logged in and cache them and present these cached versions to the user. For example, sidebar content.

    W3Total Cache does support fragment caching but it is a premium feature and you have to buy it at a price of $95, I think but don’t quote me on that 🙂

    https://www.w3-edge.com/weblog/2013/09/w3-total-cache-pro/

    The good news is that you do have several open sourced and free options for fragment caching. There are several out there is you just google, including one by rarst.

    The fact that caching isn’t really helpful for buddypress sites – since the whole point is to have a social site where people login and interact means that a HUGE amount of priority from a development point of view should be going towards optimization and performance.

    We’ve seen some improvements but there’s a long ways to go yet to even come close to wringing out the most. Buddypress is hampered by a large legacy code base with some fundamental structural decisions made early on which still have repercussions today and the desire of the developers to have backward compatibility.

    But you can always speak up and add another vote to let the dev team know what your priorities are as a user and community member.

    >Buddypress update broke my site

    iow. there are some compatibility issues with a couple of other plugins

    Did you try using a standard theme like WP 2012 to see if any of the issues are caused by your theme?

    Did you ask the creators BuddyPress Activity Plus about your issue re that plugin?

    BP ( and WP for that matter ) don’t take other plugins into account when they create an update.

    These issues are not infrequent.
    A decent developer can solve them.

    You might be happier staying with the version of BP that you were happy with.

    @tiger007xy you’re right in thinking something’s awry in your installation. WP/BP versions? Theme/Plugins used? Have you done some basic troubleshooting like changing to Twenty Fourteen and deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress to check if issue is resolved.

    Because that’s ‘where’ the hook is.

    Take a look at
    buddypress\bp-templates\bp-legacy\buddypress\members\single\member-header.php

    Use one of the do_action hooks or create a template overload of that page and put your code in it.

    @cartographer Not sure why it’s happening in your installation. What theme/plugins are you using? Also, check pending users list in a new admin screen added by BP https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-components-and-features/member/pending-users-admin-screen/
