ParticipantWell as has been made clear on so many threads on this sort of requirement it aint part of BP core so BP and this forum can’t really be a lot of help.
The concerns you note above are all to do with third party plugins, you have roughly two options, fix those that are broken, approach the plugin author with request for features/commission additional work be done.
Other than that little more can be said.

ParticipantThanks for all the input. BUT I am seriously and urgently looking for a media (only photo will do) plug in – paid or free – that will allow just 3 things without any hitch or bump for BUDDYPRESS 1.7 beta :
- ability to create album and upload photo with chosen privacy
- ability to directly mark or tag on photo</li
- comment to a photo from both activity stream and on the page itself`
BP Album is broken with BP 1.7
BP Media photo commenting from activity stream is buggy+ it has no photo marking
BuddyPics keeps on giving error message : Warning: Division by zero in C:\xampp\htdocs\wordpress\wp-content\plugins\BuddyPics-master\includes\bpa.template.tags.php on line 84 etc and does not actually upload a photo (fresh install of latest WP, BP 1.7, no other plugin)BP Gallery – does it work ok with BP 1.7? Does it allow photo marking? Please answer if you know, also a link to a demo site with BP gallery + photo marking + BP 1.7 beta will be really really helpful.

ParticipantOkay, thanks I will try that, although it implies I can’t have a single test for multiple pages, but never mind, I can work around it.
Thanks again…

ParticipantVery inspiring. My site is still SKINless and I’m pretty inspired by your site. I love your skin and colors. Very effective on eyes. Soothing and the site is easy to get around.

ParticipantMore importantly than being able to see the plugin listed is whether BP is running correctly?
The plugin – activated as ‘network’ – is listed in plugins list on the network admin dashboard.

many thanksMarch 9, 2013 at 4:44 am #155877Ben Hansen
Participantwell that’s probably the real bug then, those roles shouldn’t have any effect on a non-buddypress site which is what the sub-sites are unless you have made each site it’s own buddypress instance (not likely and you’d know if you had).
March 9, 2013 at 4:19 am #155871Ben Hansen
Participantpardon me for chiming in here but if i might i think mercime is trying to say that the roles you are referring to as “missing” should not be available on sub-sites since they are buddypress roles and should only ever apply to the primary blog. the list of roles you provided for the sub-site is the normal list of wordpress roles and is what you should be seeing.

ParticipantThanks @bphelp
This sounds like exactly what I’m looking for.
I must have done something wrong, though, as I can still access Buddypress whilst logged out.
I downloaded the zip from your repository, installed and activated. Are there more steps?
I’m at bp.youpix.org if you need to check.

ParticipantTHanks for your suggestion. . when you say default theme, do you mean to download a specific buddypress theme? .
March 9, 2013 at 2:29 am #155862In reply to: BuddyPress Alignment with custom theme
@mercime
Participant@bookee for the login form, just copy the code (lines 8 to 59) in sidebar.php from the BP Default theme to your theme’s sidebar.
As for BP login in the top menu of your theme, not quite sure what you mean by that. Custom menu? In appearance > menus, add a link http://yoursite.com/wp-login.php to the custom menu.
March 9, 2013 at 12:56 am #155855@mercime
Participant@rizingsun the Member role is a BuddyPress role. BuddyPress must be network-activated as well.

@mercime
ParticipantI’m just wondering where to locate the setting then, in this default theme.
Not quite sure what you mean. But if you’re referring to something like a Theme Options page, there is none.
If you want to customize the BP Default theme to the max, you should create a child theme of the BP Default theme and upload the child theme in server wp-content/themes/YOURCHILDTHEMENAME/ so your revisions won’t be overwritten when BuddyPress is upgraded.
March 9, 2013 at 12:41 am #155850In reply to: Right column spacing
@mercime
Participant@discdemo please don’t bump if less than a day as we’re all volunteers here living in different time zones. That said, I’ve checked out the site and the sidebar width is 224px less 40px padding = 184px space for the image. The ad you have there is 203px wide, hence the image was cut off.
About the available themes: if you upgrade to BP 1.7 beta 1 download at https://buddypress.org/2013/02/buddypress-1-7-beta-1/ you can use any WordPress theme which does not override core templating system and you’re good to go. Caveat is that only a few BP plugins have been upgraded for BP 1.7 beta 1 compatibility.

myladeybugg
ParticipantThis code is hooking into: the_author and get_the_author_display_name
It looks like buddypress uses: bp_core_get_userlink
Anyone know how to use bp_core_get_userlink in the code above?

bp-help
ParticipantYou will have to create a custom menu.
https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/how-to-set-up-your-main-site-navigation-using-the-built-in-wordpress-menus/
Then check the box beside register then add to menu. Save and refresh your front end to see the new menu with the register page.March 8, 2013 at 11:26 pm #155837In reply to: Help Needed Please – Complete Newbie

Participant@awmeneca
Go to dashboard/settings/general and check the box “anyone can register” then created a new page name it “register” and publish it. then go to dashboard/settings/buddypress/pages and go do to where the register drop down box is and select the page you created and save. Should work then!March 8, 2013 at 11:13 pm #155834March 8, 2013 at 10:44 pm #155832modemlooper

ParticipantThat seems to have fixed the alignment problem. Now, one more question if I may. How do I include a BP login in the top menu of my theme and a BP login form in my sidebar as a widget?
Again, thanks!
