ParticipantHi everyone – it looks like I solved this. I needed to delete the lines in home.php in both in my theme buddypress template under members>single and groups that refers to the ‘forum’.

ParticipantThis is now showing up on the staging site notifications page:

Participantas I see there are problems in the last version with custom themes.
Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function bp_is_user_forums() in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/wordpress/wp-content/themes/mytheme/buddypress/members/single/home.php:91 Stack trace: etc etc etc…
So line 91 I changed to
elseif ( class_exists('bbPress') && bp_is_user_forums() ) :and its working fine now because bbpress is not installed, maybe is better including the new buddypress templates instead but I have edited it to bootstrap classes and IDs so this was a temporary solution for me.

KeymasterBuddyPress does not handle forum functionality.
I think you meant to post your topic on the bbpress.org/forums instead.

KeymasterThis would have been better posted on the wordpress.org forum for that specific plugin next time, please.

ParticipantThanks @vapvarun. I checked out that link and started to follow the instructions for migrating. But then I found that I am already using bbPress 2.5.14. So it seems I am not using the old bbPress.
Also, when I get to step 3:
(3) Remove “Forums” page from BuddyPress
In the the WP admin dashboard navigate to “Settings > BuddyPress“. Click on the “Pages” tab.
Under “Discussion Forums“, select “None” and save.
There is no such “Discussion Forums” section.
So I think there must be some other problem.

Participant@andreia22
bp_is_user_forums() no longer used in core, but supported for third-party code.
legacy forum support removed in BP v3.0 you can find the details here https://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2017/12/07/legacy-forums-support-will-be/You can check with your theme support to update the corresponding codes inside the theme.
You can keep using legacy template pack for while and after your theme vendor announces support for nouveau you can switch on it.

ParticipantYes, I know. I have enabled buddypress legacy and when I go to group manage -> forum and I try to enable forum it stays inactive – https://imgur.com/Bc5DTL4 I also selected child forum for the group.

ModeratorHello,
Starting from BuddyPress 3.0 we have removed support for the deprecated and unsupported bbPress 1.x that was bundled with BuddyPress.
As written in our release post:
Most notably, the Legacy Forums component has been removed after 9 years of service. If your site was using Legacy Forums, you need to migrate to the bbPress plugin.
And here is our general bbPress 2.x forum installation guide:
So, @m1000, please follow the migration guide and move everything forum-related to bbPress 2.x, which is faster and overall works better.

ModeratorIt really depends what features you want for your site. WordPress already allows people to register and login to your site, BP just adds additional features such as extended profiles, friendships, groups, activity, forums etc.

ParticipantThere is something wrong with either of your theme or your shortcode syntax. We’ve been using both Visual Composer +bbPress+BuddyPress for several years and we have no issues so far.
Take note that the theme must support buddypress or bbpress, atleast from the a simple stylesheet.
Check out this theme: http://flocks.dunhakdis.com/community-forums/ . The homepage uses bbpress shortcodes formatted inside a VC block.
Cheers

ParticipantWe’re a volunteer run company, so it’s up to me to figure it out along with help from forums like this.. (and generosity of people like yourself). I was hoping someone with php coding knowledge would be able to at least explain where to look – eg where would the notice text be stored? ie. in what type of file? The search function in cPanel doesn’t seem to search inside of files – is this possible somehow?

ParticipantAll right. Everything is working now. I did NOT refresh the domain as mentioned in a prior post. Here is what I did:
1. From wp-admin, I deactivated Jet Pack plugin.
2. Set plugin folder back to “BuddyPress” (we previously set it to use -old suffix).
3. From wp-admin, reactivated BuddyPress
4. Confirmed that BuddyPress DOES work.
5. From wp-adminm, reactivated JetPack.
6. Confirmed BuddyPress STILL works.
There seems to be some unknown defect/inconsistency between the BP and JetPack plugins.
Note that there are other threads in this forum about JetPack problems that indicate SSO needs to be turned off. In my case, it wasn’t on, so that doesn’t seem to be the same problem.
Hope this situation and resolution helps someone else.
Best regards! CHUCK

ParticipantHello,
I have been trying to implement this solution for many, incredibly frustrating hours. I have studied this topic and its links for a few days now, hoping to solve the problem on my own.
I can successfully show a fixed ‘notification counter’ in the menu using the first snippet that was provided, great! However when I try to use the second snippet for positioning the counter, the code seems to have no effect. It’s very possible I’m missing something basic, as it seems that many others on this topic/forum have had success adding notifications to their header menus.
Please help me before I go insane (: 🙂 (:

Participant@michaellanfield all forums created by groups are also parent forums. That’s why default will list them. You can create your own set of forums with a specific category and display them at Forum index with shortcodes.
Individual forums in not displaying at your site, it might be theme specific issue, you can cross test with default WordPress theme.
