Participant@nicolagreco The readonly and hidden forums are already done. Two plugins by _ck_ do just that. I’m using those. The problem is getting the info about groups and group members in bp over to bbpress.
It’s not as simple as just including a wp or bp function. bp and bbpress might not be on the same server. They might not even be part of the same mu install.
XMLRPC is the path I’ve chosen. It fits in with the plans I have for bp, blogs and forums in the future.

MemberWell I just installed the combo module. Would deleting the forum folder from my mu-plugins folder fix it?

InactiveI avoided that by simply not installing the forum module.

ParticipantI have seen a plugin on the WPMUDEV.org Premium forums that lets you choose where the logged in user goes, but using wp-login.php sends the user to the admin by default. If the user logs in from the main page, it stays there.

ParticipantI think that privatizing a bbforum in this case is easy..
I dont remember when but i read that wp function can be included in bb. So you can privatize forums easily,
add an action that makes the forums hidden (hid in english?) if the visitor is not logged in
add an switcher action that makes the forums hidden if the group is not public
create a function that checks if loggedin user is in the group.
I think privatization is simple. Burt’s idea is really useful, but more difficult that privatizing forums, but it can be done..
You’ve to see how bp-groups (not bp-forums) works with forums and studing how it integrates groups with forums and creating own function that do the same..

ParticipantI have never seen this on any of my installs. Anyone else seen this? As side note, I does your feed not work have any specific content in it? Mine dies if there are forums posts in it. Might die with group posts as well, not sure.

Participanttrent, I just gotta:
get all groups from bp
for all groups make readonly or hidden based on group type
for logged in bbpress user get user’s groups and alter access to specific groups
getting all groups
getting users groups
What I’m working on now.

Participantlol. OK stop. Isn’t there already a ‘Burt’ cult? I know of at least one member.
It’s doable, just how is the question. Deep integration, xmlrpc, plain old sql from the wp database. Exploring.

ParticipantLets get the general public forum working, before we get greedy. I do like the idea, but for the general good I think you could just form your own cult group, make it private and be good.
Please post any progress you make on the privatization of group forums, I would like to do something so I don’t have to maintain 2 installs of bbpress.
Thanks,
Brad

ParticipantThere are many places that you can discuss this that I mentioned above including the wpmu, hackers, wordpress & other lists if you want to further discuss this.
WPMU forums as well as in the WPMU Advanced Forums as well as on the WPMUDEV Premium Forums

Participantchadeverson, the blog directory built into bp is just what you are talking about. It has alphabetic lookup, search and featured which is just random(). Get more than just a few blogs and the list option is long and unwieldy.

MemberIs there a way to get a “blogs” widget for bp just like the groups and members widget? I am not a code guy, I only know cut and paste, but I am looking for an easier way to navigate from my bp main page http://www.theodoremedia.com to where I really want my visitors to be going is my blog networks on wpmu install. I think of Bp as the wheel that connects all the blog networks wpmu contains. I am trying to figure out an easier way to let my visitors and members travel in, throughout, and around in my bp/wpmu install. right now, they seem to be stopping at the bp theodoremedia.com and getting frustrated. your idea of using this code to bring up a list of blogs that is linked would be very useful for me all throughout the install.
Could I get something like a drop down of all my blogs in the navigation bar of bp?
Hell, I would settle for a widget!
thanks
Chad

Inactivegpo1 – you posted that already here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=319#post-1291
Let’s try to keep threads on topic or things will become unwieldy very quickly.

Participantrealfam, bp covers wpmu, bbpress and bp itself. We try to address all three environments simply because we *have to* to get bp running. That thread was a little off topic for the forums. Even though it did relate to wpmu sorta, kinda.
Then again I just get cranky at times.

ParticipantWow. I am so deep into BP now that all my requests re driven by my excitement for how much more we can do. Here’s a taste:
1. Facebook like image management
a. taggable with members
b. cross ref with groups
c. albums, etc.
d. geo tagging (ok that’s asking a lot!)
e. commentable
2. gpo1’s idea – events
a. full event , map integration functionality
b. association w/ groups ie a group event
3. integrated chat with online members
4. full featured address book/ friend management
a. friend groups
b. better message addressee handling
c. group messaging – ok these are more feature request than plugins
5. fully integrated content search
a. results by type (members, groups, posts, forums postings – a la FB)

ParticipantI thought about doing the same thing. I setup 2 instances of bbpress. One for groups and one for ‘the community’. The groups forums were hidden. I didn’t like it too much. I wanted the public groups to be public forums but read only until users joined a group. I also wanted the private and hidden groups to have hidden forums.
