well, you don’t need any plugin to make it work.It is part of wp now.
can you specify which theme you are using.The feature of threaded comments depends on themes too(as themes should allow it) and most of the themes allow this.
Please let us know the theme,or check with the theme author,does that themes supports threaded comment.

ParticipantIt is bad practice to edit the Buddypress Default theme that ships with the plugin itself, because the next time you update, all of your customizations will be lost. That is, obviously, a bad thing.
To make a child theme, just create a new folder with your FTP client at the same level as your bp-default and bp-sn-parent. Call it bp-whateveryoursiteiscalled. Copy the contents of bp-default to it. PRESTO, you have a child theme! Select that theme in your dashboard, and any changes you make will be live right away.
Now you can copy whatever files you want from bp-sn-parent to your new child theme (preserving directory structure, if I’m not wrong) and edit them (ie, in this case, header.php). Any files you do not copy and change will stay ‘stock’. And next time a new version is released, you can upgrade with confidence and any changes you make will persist.
Child themes are a godsend.

ParticipantIf you want a quick workaround and don’t want to alter the theme files, you could always do it this way…
Goto Pages, and then you need to make two new Pages. One for your Homepage and one for your Blog. Call them whatever you like, for instance – Blog and Home. Now head over to the Settings, then click on Reading and then you’ll see “Front page display”. Simply select the page you created for your homepage as “Front page” and the page you created for your blog as the “Posts page”.
Now goto your blog and you should see that you now have a homepage setup with a static page which mimics the buddypress default blog page, but more importantly, if you goto the url for your blog, i.e. http://subblog.yourdomain.com/blog, it will also mimic the buddypress blog too.

ParticipantIs there an easier way than creating a child theme??
I’m a code amateur and am not sure how to create a child theme…
In previous versions of BP, you could just copy over the ‘social network logo’ file and hey-presto, the ‘custom’ logo would be on the live site.
Why has this changed in BP 1.1.2?

KeymasterTry duplicating the home theme and *delete* home.php.

KeymasterCreate a child theme, copy in header.php from the default theme and change the heade element (“h1” from memory) and replace it with an image.

ParticipantWhen you create a new blog and use the default buddypress theme, it seems to attempt to create a new widgetized homepage…not a “blog”. I’ve run into this problem myself. The only “blog” using the default blog with the blog child theme out of the box is whateveryourdomainnameis.com/blog. I too would like to just use the “blog” child theme for the default theme whenever a new blog is created. I believe there has to be a simple way to accomplish this.

ParticipantIf I’m not wrong, you can just make the Buddypress Default theme available to users in the Site Admin–>Themes section of the dashboard, and disallow other themes.
I’d probably create a new child theme (blank, basically, so it’s identical to the Default Buddypress child theme) and name it after my site, then make it the only one available.
You can change the default WPMU theme if you want more than one available via a code snippet somewhere here in the forums that I have since lost the link to (check the stickies?) or with this paid plugin (which is in and of itself not worth the signup fee I don’t think).
This free plugin may offer the same functionality but I haven’t tried it.
Alternate: Don’t know if this still works. I haven’t tried it.

ParticipantI believe (but can’t recall exactly) that it was 1.1.0 (and so 1.1.1 and 1.1.2) that changed to parent/child theming, so unless a theme explicitly declares compatibility with that revision or higher, you may have issues (which you can overcome if you’re conversant with the way that stuff works). I’ve only just wrapped my head around the child theming stuff (and it’s very cool).
There aren’t many great-looking themes out there for BP yet. If you’re willing to pay, wpmudev premium has a couple, but I wouldn’t say the themes alone are worth the price of admission.

ParticipantWell, I don’t know — I seem to have lucked out, or it’s just that my site is too new and so-far untrafficked, but the few very simple, small changes I made last week seem to have stopped the firstnamelastname19xx signups.
1) I changed the some of the text on the /register page.
2) I removed the “powered by” text in footer.php of my child theme (someone mentioned that it was being searched for)
3) I changed the register slug in wp-config.php
4) Added a functions.php file in my custom childtheme with the following code to redirect signups for all blogs to the Buddypress register page
function rk_signup_redirect() {
if (strpos($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'], 'wp-signup.php') !== false ) {
$url = 'http://mydomain.com/customregisterslug';
wp_redirect($url);
exit;
}
}
add_action('init', 'rk_signup_redirect');where mydomain.com is, you know, my domain, and customregisterslug is the slug I changed in step 3.
I don’t think I changed anything else — no captchas or anything — and I’ve received zero splog signups in the 5 days since, after getting a few a day before that. Fingers crossed.

ParticipantHI
This is the site I am having problems on now with the default theme loaded.
http://houseinfrancenetwork.com/
So when I try to add a friend the new friend gets an email with a link
http://houseinfrancenetwork.com/members/testera/friends/requests/
If this link is clicked when the user “testera” is not logged in the URL goes to http://houseinfrancenetwork.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http://houseinfrancenetwork.com/members/testera/friends/requests/
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

ParticipantThe theme was build for an old buddypress, right now the theming changed so that old theme won’t work anymore. Ask him to update or switch to deprecated theme settings within your buddypress.

I second to Jeff.
The best way for you will be ,create some clone of adminbar.css from bp-default,customize it to your need and then put it in one of your theme.
Now in all other themes, just use css imort rule to include this css.So you keep one place for maintaining the admin bar.
And yes,Firebug is a great addon,go for it.

ParticipantThere is css for the admin bar both in bp-sn-parent and bp-default. Look at the adminbar.css in both of those theme folders.
Also, you can make great progress in figuring out why something is doing or not doing what you want by using the FireBug add-on for Firefox.

ParticipantI thought it was taking the css for the admin bar from the bp-default theme? Do I need to change that?
Any idea why my admin bar is twice as large as it normally is?
Thanks,
