    up, up… :)

    Any helping hints, please?

    I have a feeling I’ve just done something wrong and that’s why i’m having these error messages…

    But i’m a little bit confused because forums and groups worked fine for a while and then they don’t. I didn’t change the code expect my own theme’s css. I changed default theme back, but still not working.. :( And own theme worked fine before too.

    I got someone to look at the code and the error messages and he said something like there’s no error in the database, but I get the SQL error because the site is trying to make database query with a broken code.

    now it was:

    ´SELECT count(id) FROM WHERE item_id = 1´

    and he said it should be:

    ´SELECT count(id) FROM <TABLE_NAME> WHERE item_id = 1´

    He also said that some variable that has that table’s name is missing… Or something like that.

    I’m not very familiar with SQL so… and know only php basics…

    I am still having this issue. I’m running BP 1.0 and own theme but changed the default 1.0 member theme back… and still not working. I also have other problems (https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2633).

    I’m sorry you’re having troubles with your theme folders. To be clear, I want to make sure that you realize that you were not, as you state:

    advised to change my “bphome” name to preserve it in case of future BP upgrades.

    I assume you’re talking about the discussion we had in this thread you asked:

    I assume renaming the theme is simply changing the name of its folder?

    I responded:

    That is correct. Make a copy of the bpmember theme, rename your copy, make whatever changes you want to it, and you have–in effect–a custom theme! Just make sure you keep your new theme in the /wp-content/bp-themes/ directory.

    Also, in this thread where I advised you to:

    Follow the same procedure as before. Make a backup of the standard bphome theme, rename it to something new…

    This means, rename your backup to something new, not change the name of the original theme folder.

    Furthermore, as per a private conversation you initiated with me on May 6 via the members messaging system, I state that:

    Make sure that you make a copy of both bphome theme and bpmember theme. Your customizations should be done in copies, not the original. That way, if you have issues with your custom themes (and we all do when working on customization), you can switch back to the standard BP themes to see how things should work.

    And, as we were talking about CSS issues in that private message and you stated that you had WordPress theming experience, I assumed you knew that the primary style file in BuddyPress, style.css, would need to reflect your new theme’s name.

    If you were confused by my advice, I do apologize. But, if you had done what I advised, you would have made a copy of the original theme and altered the copy. As I stated in my private message response to you, do not alter the original theme files.

    And if you use the same logo, you should change the same file in the bphome theme as well ;-)

    I solved by myself: I had to change also the file base.css in the bpmember theme.

    I have the same problem as Bento, and I guess this has something to do with localization, considering everything works when I set language back to English in WPMU General Preferences.

    So please, could someone look into this and suggest what to do, ’cause I really have no clue.

    More info on the erratic behavior (again, if WPMU language is English everything works fine):

    WPMU 2.7.1 – Buddypress 1.0 – default bphome & bpmember themes – WP_Lang it_IT

    – Dates generally won’t be saved into the DB

    – Some random dates, however, are saved, but off by 1 day (as per original message by Bento)

    – Manually editing the DB shows the date in the Public Profile page

    – When editing the profile after a manual DB edit, a month won’t be selected in the datebox (while day and year are)

    – Months names (F) are translated in the datebox, still in English in the Profile Page

    – Doesn’t matter what date format you set in WPMU preferences (be it F or m for the month)

    (Edit: typos)

    Okay, so here’s what I’ve done:

    1. Added this code to the beginning of the bb-config.php file (I have WPMU installed at the root):

    require_once( $_SERVER[‘DOCUMENT_ROOT’] . ‘/wp-blog-header.php’ );

    2. Added this code to the bbPress footer (before the closing /html tag):

    <?php wp_footer() ?>

    3. Added this code to the bbPress header (before the /head tag):

    <?php wp_head() ?>

    4. Added this code to my bbPress header theme:

    <div id=”search-login-bar”>

    <?php bp_search_form() ?>

    <?php bp_login_bar() ?>

    <div class=”clear”></div>

    </div>

    The result: I am getting a white space above the bbPress header where the bar should be and the login bar is showing up in that space. But there is no CSS flowing (I changed the buddybar color) and I don’t see any of the buddybar menu items.

    Hope this helps those who are newly joining the conversation.

    Any further help would be appreciated. :)

    open up style.css, you need to modify the header (i.e. this section)

    /*
    Theme Name: BuddyPress Default Home Theme
    Theme URI: http://buddypress.com/
    Description: A widget framework theme for the home of a BuddyPress enabled installation. This theme is not required to use BuddyPress.
    Version: 1.0
    Author: Andy Peatling
    Author URI: http://apeatling.wordpress.com

    Jason, there is no “Invite Members” option. There is a ‘Send Invites”. Are you running bp 1.0 and the default 1.0 member theme?

    Oh. Yep, I see it. Hang on a sec..

    Well, no I don’t see it. If I have an existing group and all my friends are already members or I don’t have any friends then I get a message like that.

    I just created a new group and bp displayed all my friends and allowed me to select those I wanted to invite. I invited some and all is fine.

    I’m using bp 1.0 and the default home/member themes. Works for me.

    Hello, Codyb

    The SocialNetwork logo is named logo.gif, I think. You can find it in two places:

    1. WP-Content > themes > buddypress-home > images and

    2. WP-Content > bp-themes > buddypress-member > images.

    Replace both with your desired logo and try.

    Maythil–

    I was advised by someone ON the forum to do it! I was making changes and asking questions, and was told by a moderator to be sure and “create a new theme” by “changing the theme name,” so that’s what I did!

    And I did change the name back to the original, and as I noted in the last post, nothing happened. Still blank!

    This isn’t an absolute disaster, though, since what I changed was on a test version of the site I’m developing, but if someone could outline the proper procedure for making a theme name change (I have only made minor modifications of the CSS files in my BuddyPress home theme), that would be great. Or point me to where I can find that information. Thanks!

    Only the folder name. Can you tell me the proper way to rename a theme, from the get-go? Or is that referenced here on the site somewhere, in easy-to-understand step-by-step instructions? :-)

    TIA!

    We really need more people to start designing themes!

    http://www.Freebpthemes.com has a theme competition running at the moment with some good prizes so hopefully people submit some nice designs!

    Did you change the folder name of the theme or the name within the CSS? or both?

    @ Atul Singhal

    duplicate you /register.php in your buddypress-home theme,

    (duplicate it to keep it as a backup)

    towards the bottom of register.php you’ll see something like “do_bp_core_signup”

    you can comment that out and replace it with the Iframe version of the rpx plugin

    <iframe src=”https://buzzwe.rpxnow.com/openid/embed?token_url=http%3A%2F%YOUR_SITE.com%2F%3Frpx_response%3D1%26goback%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252FYOUR_SITE.com/WELCOME_LANDING_CUSTOM_PAGE&#8221;

    scrolling=”no” frameBorder=”no” style=”width:400px;height:240px;”>

    </iframe>

    just change YOUR_SITE and WELCOME_LANDING_CUSTOM_PAGE to your own token url

    one issue I have with this on my site, is that the RPX plugin doesn’t gather much information… sometimes it will only get the email/username… sometimes the email is a “proxy mail email ” => @yahoo12343-proxymail.com (I haven’t confirmed this with all the 3rd party login providers)

    this will effect how the notifications work… so you’ll proly want your landing page to have instructions to update their profile information

    that should work

    Hello Codyb,

    There you have two websites where you can find some BP themes:

    http://www.buddydress.com/

    http://www.freebpthemes.com/

    I’m happy, 1st time I can help someone there;-)

    let me reiterate, I’d like a new theme that still has the social networking look to it. I like the current one I’m using, but the orange, white and silver are just a little dull. I’d like a new theme that stays with the social networking look. Also is there a way to change the socialNetwork logo to something else?

    bento, using the default bp home theme and member theme this problem doesn’t exist. I just added a new date field to the user profile and it works fine. Not seeing the problem you described. Talk to the theme author.

    guys, either way you will have to “touch” the code. this is your default theme that you are setting up for all blogs. if you make it your default theme for all users, you will just need to download the files, then upload after any future buddypress/wpmu upgrades. while i agree, i don’t like to hardcode links either, you are going to have to modify the code with something different than it is now either way. this theme that we are setting up isn’t a buddypress supported theme. we are just modifying the default home theme for our use.

    I did the same thing as Dainismichel and I too am seeing no difference (the links still goto subdomain.domain.com/members etc instead of to the root domain urls). Please help, I would rather not have to hardcode the links in.

    Cool, that solved it thanks a ton. Hey you wouldn’t happen to know if I can change the socialNetwork logo on the bphome theme do you?

    I’m developing a customised buddypress member theme and a directory view special for artists, musicians and multi media interested people.

    This is my fun learning project to get deeper into wordpress and buddypress theme design and plugin development.

    The hole website is still in beta mode. So don’t aspect it to work 100%

    http://rheinrauschen.de (In the moment just firefox ie will come al last)

    I will give the theme and plugin’s step by step to the community.

    For this I have to wait for some bug fixes, the stable bp-events component. Better forum integration and many more…. :-)

    WPMU 2.7.1 stable release

    I’m running the latest 1.0 release installed trough the WP Admin panel.

    Using the Shouty theme (this bug existed before this theme aswell)

    I’m using BPDEV plugins.

    I’m not seeing any errors.

    #45217

    Try bp_core_get_userurl or bp_core_get_userlink
