ParticipantThank you for your advice!
I’ve followed your instructions but somehow it’s throwing a massive amount of weird and very confusing code errors.
I had no other choice than to start from scratch: I’ve reinstalled WP and upgraded it to WPMU. Next step was re-installing Buddypress and my custom theme. Copied some customized files from the old blog to the new one. It’s still time-consuming.
Buddypress should have the multi-user and blog options pre-installed.
)Thanks,
Kookidooki

Participant@drdavis74 Per theme’s info page, Huddle already contains the necessary BP template files. So if you did activate BP template pack plugin and went through Appearance > BP compatibility process, then you could have overwritten the native BP files. In this case, re-upload the Huddle theme files to wp-content/themes/huddle/

Participant@kookidooki WPMU is old school and has been merged with WordPress way back version WP 3.0. If you want to allow your users to create blogs, you’d have to create a Network (go Multisite) https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
I would suggest deactivating BuddyPress and other plugins, plus changing to Twenty Eleven theme before creating a network. Please make sure that your multisite installation is working as expected before activating BuddyPress again. If you have any issues going multisite, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite

Participant@ronnie_fantastic flattery will get you nowhere
and this “legendary creature” cannot guarantee compatibility with Artisteer-generated themes. Having said that, we could give it a try. Do post the codes for header.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files as well.October 26, 2012 at 5:35 pm #144031In reply to: Theme Compatibility
@mercime
Participant@ouyagamingsource please create a new topic and move the information/questions you posted above which are not related to the subject matter at hand over there.
@ahmedselim open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, paste in pastebin.com, click submit, and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s index.php, page.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files. Initial scan looks like you only need to create two files for BP compatiblity, but have to see the files first.

ParticipantI would suggest you diasable all non essential plgins and possibly revert to the default BP theme to check things as you have a heavily moded site with plugins at worl and group slugs changed which might well be an issue.

Participant@mercime Thanks! The issue was I was trying to deal with two issues at once: trying to modify BuddyPress styles and bbPress styles, I’ve been able to sort out the details and have posted the remaining issues in a Compatibility thread here:

ParticipantI am using Huddle. I have done everything I am supposed to do including the points you listed.
It doesnt even work with the default bp theme. Logged in or out, no workOctober 25, 2012 at 6:50 pm #143977bramsonort
ParticipantHi @mercime
I changed it to the default theme and still the same issue. How would I go about editing the page that controls this? Thanks for your help.
October 25, 2012 at 5:56 pm #143976@mercime
ParticipantIt could just be that your theme has been customized not to show the activity updates/other details. Change to bp-default theme and check if issue is resolved.

Participant1. If you’re LOGGED IN and go to the registration page, you will be automatically redirected to home page.
2. Did you enable registration in your General Settings?
3. What theme are you using? If a WP theme, did you install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin?

Participant@mercime Thanks, I just checked the link and my template is not listed there… so my assumption is that I will have to modify all the files, correct?
October 25, 2012 at 5:50 pm #143972@mercime
Participant@ouyagamingsource to make your Alyeska theme compatible with BuddyPress, you need to install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin, the go through Appearance > BP Compatibility process as you’ll see https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
You’re in luck, we’ve helped another person some months ago with Step 3 for the Alyeska theme at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/customising-alyeska-theme-for-buddypress/
If you have any issues re Compatiblity Process, please post at that thread.

Participant1. I’m using version 1.3, Full Width.
2. alternating between no sidebar and right sidebar on my page, bu would do with right sidebar for BP.October 25, 2012 at 5:38 pm #143970In reply to: Theme Compatibility
@mercime
Participant== I am not sure if i can get away with the creation of the three “-buddypress.php” files or if I need to modify the 16 files and which code I need to copy. ==
@ahmedselim IT all depends on the HTML structure of your WP theme. You just cannot copy the code given for other themes because each has distinct structures and in all probability, not applicable to your theme’s. Have you looked if your theme is listed among the template-packed themes at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes
October 25, 2012 at 5:33 pm #143969@mercime
Participant@elmindo we’re going to have to hard code some of the template structures. Assuming that you’ve already set up your theme, let me know what your choices are in terns of
1. theme version you used: Full Width OR Boxed? Which one?
2. sidebar for ALL BP templates: No sidebar (full width) OR Left Sidebar OR Right Sidebar OR Both Sidebars? Which one?October 25, 2012 at 5:27 pm #143968@mercime
Participant1. What theme are you using? Did you apply the HTML changes you made to the other BP component changes to your register.php file? Site URL?
2. please do not make any changes in core files “plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration” as those will be overwritten when you upgrade BuddyPress.

ParticipantbbPress Update- Going from these directions: https://codex.bbpress.org/legacy/step-by-step-guide-to-creating-a-custom-bbpress-theme/ I created a child from my Alyeska theme and copied the Default bbPress Theme to the child theme folder. This helped get the forum page a little closer to my custom theme style, but still not there yet; the sidebars are missing, the forum BG is white, amongst a few other issues, but it’s getting closer. I’m just not sure where the CSS master file for this page is, I tried editing the two files in the CSS folder but it didn’t make any change: http://ouyagamingsource.com/forums/
In regards to locating and editing the BuddyPress CSS files I still haven’t gotten to that part yet: http://ouyagamingsource.com/groups/

SpectatorFriendPress looks interesting, possibly something we could build onto. Extended settings seems to be aimed at the very novice BP site owner. Most all of those extended setting can be handled with a custom theme.
The Skype thing is cool, we’ll be implementing it in a different way though.

Participant@modemlooper – That fixed the specific issue that I outlined. I’m wondering if it would also make sense to add the { path: ‘/’ } parameter to all other cookies being set in the bp-menus.js file? Looking in the BuddyPress default theme’s _inc/global.js file I see bp-activity-scope cookie being set using the path parameter set to ‘/’. What do you think?
October 25, 2012 at 4:48 am #1439209087877
InactiveIf you can target that element using a development tool like firefox’s firebug then you could use css trickery to make it disappear. Example:
#a_div {
display: none;
}
That is probably the least destructive way to get rid of it in a child themes style.css If you wanna change the label then use a language file. Its super easy and also is not destructive:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/October 24, 2012 at 7:30 pm #143907elmindo
ParticipantGot this from the UnitedThemes Suport guys, if it will help:
Quote: UnitedThemes
… it seems like that you need to move the mentioned files above into the theme directory. And when moving you need to apply the settings for the basic setup.
Therefore we made use of functions instead of hardcoded HTML inside our files. So when having a look at the page.php we are using a functions to open the content part and another to close:
Code:lambda_before_content($columns=”);will create a div:
Code:<div id="content-wrap" class="fluid clearfix" data-content="content"><!– /#start content-wrap –>
<div class="container"><div id="content" class="’.$columns.’ columns">and
Code:lambda_after_content();will close it. So use this skeleton here to create the single template files:
Code:<?php//includes the header.php
get_header();//includes the template-part-slider.php
get_template_part( ‘template-part’, ‘slider’ );//includes the template-part-teaser.php
get_template_part( ‘template-part’, ‘teaser’ );//set column layout depending if user wants to display a sidebar
lambda_before_content($columns=”);//the content loop
get_template_part( ‘loop’, ‘page’ );//content closer – this function can be found in functions/theme-layout-functions.php line 56-61
lambda_after_content();//include the sidebar-page.php
if(empty($columns))
get_sidebar();//includes the footer.php
get_footer();
?>But I’m still a bit lost.
