ParticipantI have activated the BP Twenty Eleven child theme so I now see content in BP pages with a parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<' in C:xampphtdocswpresswp-contentthemesBP Twenty Elevensidebar-buddypress.php on line 9 – which is where I put the additional code suggested ()
It is inside the <?php immediately below the descriptive comment and above the line
$options = twentyeleven_get_theme_options ();Have I put it in the wrong place?
This parse error appears on all BP pages but not the original theme pages.
My dashboard is still telling me I have activated the BuddyPress Template Pack, but not completed the setup process.
Sorry for my ignorance

KeymasterThe question mark has been removed in BP 1.5.
If you want to remove the question mark in your theme as well, then navigate to your active theme’s folder and open up /members/single/member-header.php.
Next, find the question mark and remove the code.

KeymasterIf you’re on BP 1.5 and you’re using an older theme, read this:

Memberchances are you have something in your theme’s functions.php file causing the problem. what i did was remove an item, save the file, test the site. do this for each entry in the file – it could be something like a spelling error, etc.

MemberI’m so not advanced with this, so please forgive me, but is there a tutorial on how best to update your Buddypress files? What I’ve done has been update only individual files as they’ve given me trouble, so I don’t have to completely rebuild my theme with the updates. I’m sure this is not the way to do it.
Thanks for the reply karmatosed!

ParticipantI have added the header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php files as suggested. When I checked the Appearance it gave me a broken theme message which I fixed by correctly renaming the ‘twentyeleven’ theme directory in style.css so I now have Twenty Eleven still installed but I guess I may need to Activate BP Twenty Eleven child theme now?

ParticipantThanks – sorry I had to go to work for a couple of hours.
I have done what you suggested – where do I go next? Do I try to continue with Step 3 of the Compatibility Process creating header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php?

Participant== NB My installation is on stand alone PC not connected to the internet. ==
1. Keep BP Template Pack plugin activated.
2. Open up bp-default theme and copy the folders listed below from bp-default theme into bp-twentyeleven folder
– activity, blogs, forums, groups, members, registrationOctober 8, 2011 at 5:19 am #122719pawriter
ParticipantI have followed these two steps –
1. Create a new theme folder for your Twenty Eleven child theme. For this example, the child theme is called BP Twenty Eleven so we’ll name our theme folder bp-twentyeleven.2. Create a style.css file and add it in the bp-twentyeleven folder with content below:
(copying the suggested content for style.css)
3. Upload the bp-twentyeleven folder with the style.css file within to your server at /wp-content/themes/NB My installation is on stand alone PC not connected to the internet.
When I attempt the start of the Compatibility Process and click on “update your existing wordpress theme I get the following error:
An unexpected HTTP error occurred during the API request – Try Again
I cant progress beyond this point.

ParticipantTo make your Twenty Eleven theme compatible with BuddyPress, you need to install the BP Template Pack plugin and go through the Appearance > BP Compatibility process

ParticipantYou need to activate BuddyPress first. Second, select Twenty Eleven theme. Third, install BP Template Pack and go through the BP Compatibility process.

MemberHave any solutions been made for this? I would like to have custom parameters such as “if ( bp_has_members( ‘type=alphabetical&include=’.$user_id) )” but then none of the searches work. Any way to either get searches to work with custom parameters, insert my custom parameters into bp_ajax_querystring(), or add another filter that is on all the time?
I have WP 3.2.1/BP 1.5. I am using the BP-default theme.

ModeratorI’d say it’s usually not linking to the javascript files when things stop working. Another area would be not updating to BuddyPress 1.5 your theme files but using BuddyPress 1.5. Have you updated those both?

MemberI am having the same issue. I was told it was because my theme is not compatible. Not sure I understand that since everything else works. Just no delete function on activity streams.
October 7, 2011 at 12:38 pm #122658ktib
MemberApparently it’s an issue with Yootheme’s buddypress compatibility plugin (called Warp Buddypress). If I inactivate this plugin i do see buddypress pages, as you can see on this other site with buddypress and a yootheme template installed : http://www.v-les-visiteurs.fr/members. As soon as i activate the plugin, the template shows correctly but no Buddypress pages

Well, I guess it’s an issue with Yootheme, and my subscription just expired so I can’t ask for their support…October 7, 2011 at 11:56 am #122654In reply to: left sidebar doesn’t work anymore since update

ok menu is fixed by editing the theme
but
the left sidebar is working when im on bp-sites, but i can’t drag widgets into it, why?October 7, 2011 at 11:34 am #122653In reply to: Google Analytics for Buddypress

ModeratorTo be honest just put in the theme files probably is the lightest / speediest solution. Google lets you know where in the code to place things – put that in the footer.php before the closing tags it says.
But, if you are using the default theme for BuddyPress you probably either want to do a child or you want to use a plugin.
I’ve not tried it but perhaps: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-analytics-for-wordpress/ works – after all if it’s just inserting into the theme files….
