KeymasterThere’s no invite code requirement in core or in the default theme. It’s probably coming from a plugin or theme which you are using.

ParticipantOk, BPcolumns then.
1. Save a file copy of your default.css file in the themefoldername/_inc/css folder to a safe place.
2. Open up default.css, find #header and change `height: 100px;` to `height: 125px;`
3. In same file, find ul#nav and
change `right: 15px;` to `left: 15px; `
change `max-width: 65%;` to `width: 100%`March 1, 2011 at 12:47 am #106554@mercime
ParticipantJust downloaded qawker theme and it actually “looks easy” to copy over HTML structure onto transferred BP files. The sidebar in that theme is called in the footer.php.
1. Download the 6 folders with 13 files transferred via BP template pack process to your qawker theme folder down to your computer https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#revise-templates
2. Open up each file with text editor and make the following changes:
At the top of each BP template file replace this section
``with the one below:
``
as noted by hnla aboveAnd at the bottom of each BP template file delete these two lines only:
`
`3. Save files and upload BP template folders with revised files to server.

ParticipantNot sure you haven’t chosen a rather complicated theme to cut your teeth on, the two files you showed above do not really look like they match to the live site or at least that the theme might be pulling some include tricks to fetch the rightside element, what’s in your head.php?
February 28, 2011 at 8:52 pm #106534Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantI’d write it from scratch, but then I’m not into themes

You only need to copy the element I showed you need make no decsions as to what to call things, the idea is that your chosen theme already has a particular html structure and associated styles, the BP files, however will be using something different, the BP files must fit the structure your theme dictates.
This isn’t about changing your theme layout it’s about ensuring that BP files / pages do not break the layout due to a different html markup structure which would create issues simply in structure terms but that also will not be able to pick up the styles from your theme due to different class / ID tokens.
If you are actually wanting to change the layout look of your theme that is something different altogether and a step too far at this stage.

MemberThanks mercime and hnla, I really appreciate your guys help. I still haven’t solved it.. I can’t figure out what to name the

ParticipantAlso, just noticed you mentioned using a custom Artisteer theme … did you install the BP Template Pack plugin and go through the integration process? Can’t give any definitive answer based on the styles you just posted above – site url?
February 28, 2011 at 6:12 pm #106524@mercime
Participant@FiestyLatina this tutorial might help you understand better how to go through the process – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/

ParticipantWP/BP versions? Did you add that function to your wp-config.php (the right place) or to theme’s functions.php file?

@mercime
ParticipantThe log in info you gave for test account in your site is rendering wrong password error.
“I have managed to fix the commonly broken sidebars on all pages except one”
I see you’re using the “Los Angeles” theme. I assume you installed the BP template pack plugin and went through the compatibility process. You might just have missed imposing the HTML structure of the Los Angeles theme files over one of the members files.EDIT- I visited again and I see “Fatal error: Cannot redeclare searchfilter() (previously declared in /home/content/86/7052586/html/wp-content/themes/los_angeles/functions.php:220) …. ” on your site. If you added/deleted anything from your theme’s functions.php file, I suggest you delete/add it back whichever the case may have been.

The most basic bp-default child theme is a new folder name and a style.css file. What other “files” did you add to your bp-default child theme?
February 28, 2011 at 5:21 pm #106519In reply to: Change Menu Bar
@mercime
ParticipantClearly we have different interpretations re “shift the menu bar (which is on the header) to the left” which I find out that you meant making the horizontal menu a vertical menu on a left sidebar(?), theme? site URL?.

MemberI’m sorry I still don’t understand! I take it I must change “content” to “livepost”? Would you be able to look at my themes files and advise me further? I’m really lost and I’d be so appreciative..
February 28, 2011 at 12:42 pm #106506Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantIf you look at the two files you’ll notice the main similarity of those files is this:
``Compare that to a BP index page in one of the directories such as activity you will see something like:
``
The idea is that these elements should essentially represent the main html elements that form the site layout, the BP files much match the structure of your chosen theme so it looks as though your chosen theme does noy use #content or .padder so they need to be replaced (along with the matching closing tags) with the one you see in your chosen theme file (this needs to be done for all BP files as listed in the guide).Once the layout functions you will probably need to bring BP links in to the chosen themes primary link structure which will live in the header file (think that’s explained in the guide – if not check out the simplified guide provided by mercime in the codex as it may explain things further)

MemberSure thing! I have in fact started the template pack.
I am currently on Step Three. It tells me to “Make note of the HTML template structure of the file, specifically the
tags that surround the content and sidebar.
You will need to change the HTML structure in the BuddyPress templates that you copied into your theme to match the structure in your page.php or index.php file.”This is what confuses me!
My page.php file is the following:
`
— <a href="”> —`
Also, here is the index.php file in case it is needed:
`
1); global $first_exclude; $first_exclude = array(); ?>have_posts() ) : ?>
have_posts() ) : $first_one->the_post(); ?>
ID); ?><a href="”><a href="”>
— <a href="”> —3,’post__not_in’ => $first_exclude); ?>have_posts() ) : ?>
have_posts() ) : $three_recent->the_post(); ?><a href="”><a href="”>
`
I really have no idea which one I should use, or how to match it up with the buddypress template files.. I’ve also activated buddypress and the template pack so you guys can visit it at http://cubancomplex.kodingen.com/matrixinsider/wordpress and take a look
February 28, 2011 at 9:27 am #106494Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantCan you confirm how far you have progressed with this process:
https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/
You need to explain just what you are stuck with really otherwise it will be hard for anyone to help, be specific when creating threads on forums as it will get a better response if we know what to help with.
You need to get the template pack process underway – if you haven’t already – and then post back, also might help to keep the progress live on your test site.

Participant@gunju2221 Thank you for feedback. After I had started porting the theme to buddypress, I found a child theme based on arras in the arras forums – it’s called BrownBuddy and seems to be a little unfinished, but a good starting point, as there are many things you have to change and adapt. Read about it here http://www.arrastheme.com/forums/topic4211-buddypress-arras-theme-child-brownbuddy.html

MemberThank you very much. Do you know of a good site/study manual that offer kinda basic html. I create all my themes with Artisteer and know some, but it seems as I go along I keep learning and need a reliable manual to call on?
Thank you again

ParticipantWhat do you mean by “forum is not available”?
You have white screen for URL http://yoursite.com/forums?What BP/WP versions are you on?
What do you mean by “using the Arras Theme along with the Social”?
Did you install BP Template Pack or is “Social” a plugin?February 27, 2011 at 4:45 pm #106465In reply to: Making Your Theme BuddyPress Compatible
@mercime
Participant@hsiaolungchang Read through the example of the BP Template Pack process https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/bp-template-pack-walkthrough-level-easy-2/
Note that there is usually a pattern to the HTML structures you will be imposing from your design onto the template pack files. The code you posted above for page.php is incomplete closing divs and get_footer code.

Anyone? Please?February 27, 2011 at 2:05 am #106446In reply to: bp front page set up
@mercime
ParticipantYou could create your own home page by a) creating `home.php` (a special WP template recognized by BP) or by b) creating custom `Page Template` set as front page
which contain:
1. widgetized areas – see this bp-default child theme for example https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/buddypress-widget-theme
and/or
2. special BP and WP loops and/or template tagsto call in data
