    No style.css which @imports the required stylesheets uses hardcoded relative paths to locate the imported styesheets. Copy adminbar.css to your child structure if you want to edit some of it, if you revert to the default theme at any time then the original style.css will be in effect and call the other original stylesheets.

    To show blog activity you’d typically customise your home page template to include a customised activity loop that just shows blog posts.

    Check under Docs… Custom buddypress loops on ths site for details on how to do that.

    There might also be off the shelf widgets that will work for you, but you will need to have a widgetised home page theme

    Hi Paul,

    I just tried this fix, but it didn’t work: http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/ie8-compatibility-mode.

    Below is a list of my active plugins. But I’m not sure if it’s a plugin issue because the cropping works in Firefox. Is it an IE8 compatibilty issue? If so, how can I get around it?

    Here are my active plugins:
    * Advanced Permalinks
    * AJAX Login Widget++
    * BP-NotificationWidget
    * BP Disable Activation
    * BP Hide Widgets
    * BP Member Filter
    * BuddyPress
    * BuddyPress Album+
    * Buddypress Widget Pack
    * Capability Manager
    * Dean’s Permalinks Migration
    * Enhanced BuddyPress Widgets
    * Fast Secure Contact Form
    * Fluency Admin
    * IE7 Compatibility
    * Invite Anyone
    * Media Library Gallery
    * My Comments Manager
    * NextGEN Gallery
    * NextGEN Gallery Sidebar Widget
    * Nicer permalinks for Vietnamese
    * oEmbed for BuddyPress
    * ourSTATS Widget
    * Peter’s Login Redirect
    * Plugin Central
    * SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam
    * Simple Trackback Validation
    * TDLC Birthdays
    * Theme Switcher Reloaded
    * Top 10
    * Transposh Translation Filter
    * User Permissions
    * Visitor Maps and Who’s Online
    * Welcome Pack
    * WordPress Admin Bar
    * WordPress Database Backup

    Thanks for your help!

    If you want the activity stream as your front page – go to wp-admin … settings … reading … front page displays

    If you just want a small area to show updates, try a widgetised theme, and add the sitewide activity widget

    If you want something more bespoke, i.e. just status updates… you will have to write your own custom activity loop – check docs on this site for information on this. Make sure you do this in a new or child theme.

    Test it with just WordPress installed … BuddyPress de-activated.

    Can you change the permalinks to a custom structure e.g. /%category%/%postname%/ and still view pages / categories without problem?

    You need WordPress working correctly with permalinks.

    If that’s OK, then install / activate BuddyPress, select the BuddyPress default theme, and check everything works.

    Once you’ve done this, you can install your language packs, plugins, etc.

    It is the default with no child theme. No changes made in CSS, admin bar, java, just the auto install. The admin bar is there and drops down but when clicked on avatar – doesn’t do anything. I am able to load avatars when people sign up. It’s just the admin bar that concerns me now. Thanks, Richard Dalton – LookUpDetroit.org

    @fatherdalton – there is no admin bar visible on your site.

    If you want help on this – you’ll need to provide more information – can you confirm what theme you are using (it looks like the default, have you built a child theme?), any changes you’ve made to the admin bar, CSS, javascript, etc.

    Someone may be able to assist then.

    Thanks, I’ll use that as my default strategy but i was trying to be creative so that future upgrades wouldn’t require me to have to refresh the file. I tried doing the following:

    function postSignup_msg() {
    echo “blah, blah, blah”;
    echo “more blah, blah, blah”;
    }
    add_action( ‘bp_complete_signup’, ‘postSignup_msg’, 2 );

    To my surprise, a simple “echo” command doesn’t play nice with outputting information while maintaining the theme formatting and, frankly, i don’t know another way to output the info so that it will better align. any suggestions?

    next try

    Too much confusion here…..
    No I found this:
    http://example.com/members/stilalbum/groups/ <—-no create link
    http://example.com/groups/ <—there is a create link

    I dont think that this behavior is logical.

    So, how do i get the link into http://example.com/members/stilalbum/groups/?

    Solution:
    open wp-content/themes/premiumnews/groups/index.php
    Search for:
    `

     <a class="button" href="”>

    `

    copy it (or copy it from here ;-) )

    now open

    wp-content/themes/premiumnews/members/single/groups.php

    and paste the code wherever you need it
    I removed the `

    ` tag and the “ and put the code after “

    Now everything is fine and logical.

    Happy weekend, happy group-creation!

    The easiest thing to do is to copy registration/register.php from bp-default into your child theme. Search for the place where Sign Up Complete! appears, and put your additional paragraph after that.

    @bowromir not that I’m saying my designs are awesome or nice. I’ve just been hunkered down, is all…and seeing all the ways BP can be made to look like not-BP. (and working with Achievements too) – I’ll share on BP-tricks ! So that I might earn a badge!

    @hnla sure you did.. sure.. whatever.. *looks mad at awesome macbook pro monitor*

    Your intentions where absolutely clear to me, and I’m glad you also like it :D I would love to see some cool Tricks from you when the site launches, so I’ll probably stalk you until you do!

    @nahummadrid: awesome! Thanks for the compliment and if you have something to show design wise, please do :)

    Just in case it was actually taken seriously the ;) after the spam comment I made was meant to be tongue in cheek ;)

    Good luck with the site Bowe and I concur with the “not a paid endorsement” brigade the site does look good :)

    @bowromir i’m trying to be a cool kid! I just registered. Nice theme. Nice idea for Achievements. This is interesting I think we’ll begin seeing some pretty awesome bp themes, yours being one of them. I think alot of folks, including myself, have been hunkered down designing BP in really nice ways.

    “Spam!!!”
    *sees the topic is about his own theme*
    “Absolutely NO problem with this!” :D

    Thanks for creating this topic Ross, I’m really glad you like the theme I’m putting up for sale. And Boone thanks for promoting my already outdated video as well :-) My intention with the new BP-Tricks site is not to only sell a premium theme, and offer some kind of subscription service (I’m not a big fan of subscription models for Themes).

    BP-Tricks will hopefully become a resource for great BuddyPress tips and tricks. Selling the theme is just a great way for me to keep BP-Tricks running, earn some money and hopefully improve the quality of BuddyPress Child Themes.. The theme is GPL and cool stuff that I add to it will all be shared in the form of Tutorials on BP-Tricks. The actual design elements and the support are what people are paying for (similar as WooThemes does this for example).

    Everyone can submit code/design/inspirational Tricks through a form or the backend, and by doing so you’ll earn Awards ( @DJPaul his Achievement Plugin FTW!) and badges awarded by me. The best new trick each month earns a nice price (currently a Free theme, but I’ll try to get some sponsors) and they get listed on the frontpage in Widget of Fame :)

    Besides that the Activity Stream is purely meant to be a source of information displaying ONLY new Tricks, external Tricks (BP-Links from @MrMaz) and external member blogs from our members (if you blog about BuddyPress or anything related to it) you can add your RSS feed to your profile and people who follow you get your updates in their stream. This plugin will be released to the community when the site launches next week.

    There’s also a customized search feature which only searches the BuddyPress network (BP.org, BP-Tricks, WPMU.org, Etivite.com, BuddyDev.com, ShabuShabu.eu etc) and a bunch of other stuff which I probably forgot to tell.

    All the site features remain free, and also the site will be Ad free for as long as I earn enough to keep it running without loosing money on it.

    I hope this makes my intentions clear, and that it will become a place where you can enjoy great BP Tricks from not only me, but from anyone, without getting the feeling that I’m out for someone’s money.. because that is certainly not my intention :) If you want to have access to the site before launch to look around and submit some Tricks for the community just let me know, and I’ll make sure you’ll have access and be a part of the cool kids ;)

    I agree wholeheartedly people can’t expect everything for free – sadly they do though :) – I was not really knocking the premium model at all in fact I have very strong views on when ‘Stuff’ should be free and when it ought to carry a value, I’ve been a jobbing coder for quite some time I have to try and earn a living and that means paid client work I have to be careful how I proportion my working hours.

    Also BP is not really ‘Free’ it represents a lot of man hours and as such has an intrinsic value, the fact that we are not asked to contribute in monetary terms to it’s continued development is indeed amazing :)

    @rogercoathup I’ve noticed that If I modify the adminbar.css in the buddypres default theme it’s applied to all my blogs. (I can change the background, I still have to find how to define a police / font for all the blogs)

    How is it possible ? I didn’t choose the default theme, I’m using a child one for my buddypress. And if I try to overwrite the css with the child it doesn’t work.

    @hnla I agree in the most part but the fact is, I run my BP sites for profit. Whether I’m developing them for myself or others. People cant expect everything for free. BP itself is the best thing I have used to make communities and it’s AMAZING it’s free. I like to donate where I can for themes and plugins where they are free but things can be a great addition to the community even at a small cost.

    Bowe’s theme is very cheap (currently with 20% off) and will save me 10’s of hours in development time. Do I mind paying $24? NOPE!

    (not a paid endorsement either!)

    I have to agree that Bowe’s theme does look pretty, uh, slick. His video walkthrough is worth watching: vimeo.com/15053425 (Also not a paid endorsement :) )

    It’s a great addition to the community if it’s provided free, as a premium theme well…

    No offense Bowe, Know you are a good egg :)
