If I go to wp-content/languages/plugins/ I can only find Akismet and not BuddyPress. All other folders mentioning BuddyPress do not include a language folder, so I’m confused?
I have bought a WordPress theme called Implicit by IndustrialThemes, and making a product review is a part of the theme that’s linked up to posts. So if you make a new post you can make it a review filling out different fields such as ratings and criteria. So if a member wants to make their own review they would have to gain access to the admin panel in order to write a post/review. But if I open up this feature then the members would be able to see other posts as well and they can edit etc. As I understand, the plugins you mention will not get the member inside the admin panel with limited access. Am I right?
Which of the plugins can be used in order to block different blog posts from not-registered users?

I am making a review site and I have BuddyPress and BBpress installed. I have a few questions about using BuddyPress for a review site:
1) Is it possible to make a blog with different articles where some of the best articles, like “plus” or “gold” articles, only members of the site can read? (A way for me to give people something in return for registering as members)
2) How can I make members make reviews without getting access to the admin panel of my WordPress site? It wouldn’t be much fun for me if members can edit or see others posts. I want members to get a very narrow access to only “make a new review” and then they can not edit the review afterwards, as the admin (me) has to approve.
3) Where do I upload language files (I have Danish .mo and .po files)?
4) How do I change the text in the automatic emails send to the members? (is it in the language files as well?)
5) Is it possible to upgrade members, let’s say those who have been making the most reviews, so they achieve either points or a higher level?

Now I’m currently working on a wordpress blog ( Fat Burner Depot ) It’s wordpress 4.2.1, if that helps.
I’ve seen a site where BuddyPress loads into a standard static wordpress page. Wouldn’t I be able to copy and paste the index code into the body of the page text? Just as long as the paths to the rest of BuddyPress files are right? Is there a better way to go about this?

You misunderstood me:

I said the same page, not the same template. Members directory has his own template and a profile has some other template. Directory and profiles are using the same page: members. And not at least, this is only a page name. Technicaly, BP use page.php
See template hierarchy on Codex to understand how it works.
Now, why is the sidebar not showing widgets despite the sidebar code is in the page source ? No idea… Seems to me you use a lot of parts which are not from WordPress and some unusual settings to show your site…
If you use custom sidebars from your theme, you have to try those bars.
Activate 2015 and see how to get widgets to appear on that theme first. Then reactivate Wellness and see what you get.
Or ask your theme support.

There are any problem to add some function to my theme function.php in a wordpress multisite ? The function i’m trying to add it works perfectly in the test wordpress but in the multisite wordpress it doesn’t work . So does anyone know what can i do ?.

That plugin appears to be untested for my version of WordPress (4.1.4) and BuddyPress (2.2.3). It also looks like many users are having issues with it. Is there any other method to accomplish what I’m looking for?

Hello, I was wondering if there was a way to allow user roles other than admins to mark users as spammers. Actually, more generally I’d like them to be able to edit the extended user profiles granted by BuddyPress from both the front and backend. Now, this is possible by granting a user role the manage_options permission, but the problem is that they also have access to many other important options from WordPress and third party plugins. Even if I were to hide links in the navigation bar, a savvy user could still work his way into those options. I’d like to be able to manage ONLY the Buddypress options, including the ability to mark spammers.

They are several places where change-avatar is used and i recommend you to not change this.
Open eventually an enhancement ticket and see what the dev’s think about.

BuddyPress comes with a login widget you can use on every existing theme who accept widgets.

To style a button, you use CSS. This is common to any modern CMS software.
Each BP activated component has is own page. Activity has such a page.
When you go to WordPress settings, you can asign a default homepage. Choose Activity and you’re done.
But now it’s time you make a real test on a local install. It’s the best way to get answers.
Just installed buddypress and testing it out. I wanted to build in registration/login into my theme but I see the buddypress functions are all in a separate toolbar. That may or may not work. Some questions:
1. Can I hide the wordpress icon and the wordpress links (including dashboard access) from the left hand side of the admin bar? This will cause brand confusion and functionality confusion as there is more than 1 place to view/edit profile. I don’t want anyone to see/access any of the native wordpress pages
2. can I create my own register/login buttons and links to place within my theme and send the user to registration/login in that way?

That is what my screen looks like… I have passed on the message from @danbp to my theme’s developers to look into.
<b>Have you updated the WordPress themes to the absolute latest?</b> They issued updates earlier this week. The previous versions resulted in the same problem, but the current ones worked fine for me.
My site is a relatively big one… with lots going on. But, my host advised me not to use Jetpack because they have found a number of conflicts/issues with some of the components. Hence, I have to find, test and use other plugins to get the functionality I am after.

I’ve never used their plugin, but do you have ‘moderation’ turned on?
From their readme file:
* Hide “Person became a registered member” from activity stream if moderation is turned on until person is approved.
This will prevent new registrations from showing in site activity, regardless of whether you’re using their plugin… but maybe you need something else?

I do not want to show pending registrations in the site activity. I have this plugin installed to allow me to approve new registrations:

The issue is that when any user registers, the new registration shows up in the site activity. I want to show all site activity except pending user registrations. I have seen several posts on how to filter using bp_has_activities (e.g. bp_has_activities( bp_ajax_querystring( ‘activity’ ) .’&object=groups,friends,status,blogs’), but I only want to filter pending registrations, nothing else.

I would like for my users to have the option of creating topics for the forum through the toolbar option ‘+ New‘ that the admin or moderators have. Many users will not understand the minimalist editor (the same that this forum has) and may discourage user threads and possibly replies. One of the plugins I installed was User Role Editor as you cannot change permissions by default. Is there something that I am missing within that plugin or what are the available options? Even if users could not use the editor I use TinyMCE Advanced I would be happy; though I would prefer if they had access to that editor.

Welcome to the BP community, I hope you decide to take the dive. I was where you are about three months ago. Though I’m not an expert, I can offer a fellow newbie perspective after a couple of months in.
1. Yes, if you mean can you have your activity feed as your homepage. Though if you want it to look like facebook or twitter color and layout wise you’ll have to look into a fb/twitter type of theme. (google wordpress themes or wordpress premium themes if you don’t mind paying)
2. You can send a friend request. If you want to add a follow button, you’ll have to look into plugins. (google wordpress plugins)
3. Nope, but that’s again where a plugin can help you out. I use Hashbuddy. Works perfectly.
4. Again a plugin. Usually a sharing one you’ll have embedded in your pages, post or activity feed. BP doesn’t come equipped with photo/video support, so plugin. I use Activity Stream Plus and Mediapress is pretty comprehensive although it’s still in/just coming out of beta.
5. And yes, you can set this option in your BP settings so every user can create groups.
Hope this helps! I know it can be a daunting and overwhelming start with so many options out there. BP is pretty easy to learn and pretty solid right out of the box. Add some plugins to give it polish and its a real nice product. Make sure you google themes and plugins to get a good idea of what’s out there. Best of luck to you!

The pandemonium is rarely related to WordPress core or BuddyPress core (the core devs usually issue a fix before we even know there’s a problem). So it’s a great idea to keep up to date as you’ve already mentioned.
The tricky part arrives when we look at plugins. Whilst WordPress does everything it can to make plugin developers aware of security issues, fixes are ultimately down to the plugin author. It’s always a good idea to use plugins that are activity maintained and supported. The same could be said for themes actually.
Hi! Is there a way to allow comments on a group home page? I added the comments_template() to it, but that doesn’t seem any use as groups don’t seem to have support for comments.
I don’t want to use the activity stream for this, and comments would be perfect for what I need (people asking questions to a group and the questions remaining public before deciding to join).
Groups have an ID so I hope it is possible. I would really appreciate any help.
