In reply to: Why the rudeness?
No worry: unwarranted and rude Yesssss, i’m a rough boy! π
In reply to: Location/Address for Buddypress Groupshi @tiepolo71,
you can add such information in each group description.
If you’re comfortable with coding, build your own group queries or plugin:
https://codex.buddypress.org/plugindev/group-meta-queries-usage-example/https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/group-extension-api/if not, see which plugin solution could be best for your needs
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-groups-extras/
are you speaking about this wordpress add-on ?
You must have at least PrivateContent v2.3 to use it !i would try something different.
Create a page for each student and set it to private, with a password which you give to the student.
With the password they can access to the page. This is a WP native behave. It would not be very difficult after that to include such a page in each profile.
To write your summary or summaries, adapted to each student, or any other text, you could use @imath ‘s wp-manual.
You could also publish courses in PDF and use the buddydrive plugin. Your course will then be listed on your profile, depending your buddydrive visibility settings (public, private, friends, members….).
I think this can be reasonnably be used if you have few students, but if you have more than 50 you have to use a better adapted solution.
In reply to: [Resolved] Sort user list by last nameSeems you and me don’t use the same file !
The code to change is line 16 at the begin of that file. This place didn’t change since my first answer… πThe members-loop.php file in your child theme must be a copy of the one in
buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/members-loop.phpThe modified line included in php tags looks like this once you finished correct copy/pasting
<?php if ( bp_has_members( bp_ajax_querystring( 'members' ) . '&type=alphabetical' ) ) : ?>In reply to: [Resolved] Registration form Field ErrorI don’t understand why you obstinatly want to write bios on wordpress (inactive when BP is activated) when you can do that with xprofile !
On the register page you have a single line text area field. Why don’t you use a multiline area for doing this ?
field type = Multi-line Text Area.
Entered text will then appear on user’s profile !The function you want to use cannot work, as it contain errors.
Sorry to tell, but I think you have to learn some php and buddypress handling before going to reinvent the wheel or making things you don’t really understand.
Some good reads here, and many others on the forum.
In reply to: [Resolved] Registration form Field Erroranswer 4 doesn’t relate to CSS but to language file.
answer one i don’t understand what you did.
– create a new field
– add a title -> Birthdate
– add a description -> your birthdate
– field requirement -> required or not required
– field type -> date selector
– save settingsBy default the years in this selector goes from 1902 to 2037. Don’t ask me why, but it’s so.
If you have a member born in 1902 let us now, we will create an extra worldwide buddy party for him !!! (with free beer and WP goodies for all). The issue is 2037 is indicated on the first line ? Normally, the first line is containing —- in each select. If you see 2037 by default, something is wrong somewhere.
Do you use an extra profile plugin or is your theme made specially for BP ?
In reply to: [Resolved] Sort user list by last nameCheck your child-theme functions.php file.
At the begin of the file you should have an opening php tag
<?php
on the third line you add Shane’s function. The file must be used without ending php tag
?>So if you added one after the function, remove it.other possibility:
you entered the snippet with help of a text editor like Word or Sublime or…
Bad idea ! Use a notepad editor or any other raw text editor. And at least, be always aware that php uses mostly straight cotes. In your case, until you confirm, it was the quotes !
Here is your code, with the right quotes in place:
if ( bp_has_members( bp_ajax_querystring( 'members' ) . '&type=alphabetical' ) ) :To write code with a text editor, you have to encode and/or save it in UTF-8 without BOM format.
And the best for the end:
when you publish code on this ofrum don’t use the php tags, and in any case, use the code buttonso it can be viewed in a proper format and won't mess up the whole forum.Thank you !
Ok ! You’re welcome. Glad you got it ! π
In reply to: Multi select field no array? If you want your user to set their profile, you must activate the xprofile component first.
You must also have a component page called by default Members
And a page for activation and another for registering. Then you must create some profile fields
Dashboard > users > profile fieldsAt this stage, which is the default process, you have nothing to know about array’s or code. All this is done within in a user friendly interface.
Sorry to detail such things – and probably knowed & done by you, but topics are also read by many other people.
You have an issue with multilines text areas ? OK
– do you use a custom theme or a third party theme ?
– are you on a local install ?
– have you other js malfunction elsewhere on your site ?
– have you tested with another browser ?Anyway, i guess you have to debug by deactivate all plugins but BP on the 2014 theme and retest the text area.
Firstly a good news: your site is not infected ! π
http://app.webinspector.com/But check for some HTML errors: 52 Errors, 6 warning(s) according to
http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Foutwire.net%2Fmembers%2Fjadedtristin%2FIncluded the 2 errors who must absolutely be corrected to solve your issue.
At the end of this line, which contains the encoded png
<meta property="og:title" content="<a href=" http:="" outwire.net="" members="" jadedtristin="" "="">
bp-wall js”>jadedtristin” /> ; <——- here is an error closing tag > is not correctly formedAnd another here

<!--/ Facebook Thumb Fixer Open Graph /-->lineWhat is bp-wall js ? Is this in your theme ?
Deactivate all plugins but BP and also your theme and activate 2014 to see if the text is still there.
In reply to: [Resolved] Logged-In User Profile Link URLShortcodes are used by WordPress since version 2.5.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Shortcode
https://codex.wordpress.org/Shortcode_APITo use the above snippet, you copy/paste it into your child-theme functions.php.
And you use the shortcode like this[myprofileurl]within post or comments.Bla bla bla [myprofileurl] bla bla… will print out Bla bla bla My Profile bla bla…
I hope for you that you want to write something else before My profile as bla bla bla π
In reply to: [Resolved] Set βFromβ name and emailThank you for your reply @bookclubreader.
But the first topic is related to Contact Form 7, and your soluce applies to that plugin ONLY.
Also, the tip you linked to use a core file hack, and this is absolutely not to do.If users who don’t use that plugin go to remove both filters, their emails won’t NEVER be send i guess.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Plugin_API/Filter_Reference/wp_mail_fromFor thoose who want to modify the default sender name (from), typically wordpress@yourdomain to something else, use these snippets and put them into your child-theme functions.php
//notification mail From email field function custom_email_from($mail) { $mail = 'your_email@addre.ss'; // Replace the email address here // return $mail; } add_filter('wp_mail_from','custom_email_from'); //notification mail From name field - optional function custom_email_from_name($name) { $name = get_bloginfo('name');//or any other text return $name; } add_filter('wp_mail_from_name','custom_email_from_name');MOD EDIT: Topic moved into Third Party Plugins section
In reply to: Multi select field no array?hi @ahalle,
I have a big problem with multi select fields.
This is unclear ! What are you trying to do exactly ?
MOD EDIT: Moved the topic from Requests & Feedback to Creating & extending category.
your question was around hidden groups are invisible for regular members in the BP Groups Widget.
Hidden groups are only viewable on the member profile My Groups tab, when the member is logged in and is member of the hidden group.
So far i can remember, it is so since a long time ago.
If it is not the case on your install, you must give more information about it.
Used theme, eventually customized function, bp and wp version and a precise description of your issue. When does it appear, and so on.In reply to: [Resolved] Registration form Field Error@sam01389
Q. 4:
BuddyPress wordings can easily be changed by using a language file, even if your site is in english.Q.2:
When buddypress is activated with the xprofile component, the wordpress register form is not used, except for username, password and email part.
xprofile let you extend this wp form. And if you need a bio field, you create multiline text field and call it Biography. So simple as that.Q.3
https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-followers/Q.1
no comprendo ! What do you mean exactly ?Latest WP and BP maybe enough for a daily forum usage. But imagine people reading your topic in 6 mounth or in 2 years… Give the version number please. And give also the used theme type/name.
In reply to: [Resolved] how to export/import groupsif you use phpmyadmin, you can easily export the 3 tables related to groups from site 1 and import them in site 2. phpMyadmin has natively import/export tools and avoids you to use an extra plugin to generate CSV or sql formated files.
xxx_bp_groups
xxx_bp_groups_groupmeta
xxx_bp_groups_membersxxx is the prefix you entered during the wp install. By default it is wp, but it is recommended to use another one. Spambots are too much in love with wp_ prefix. You’re warned ! :d
That’s your choice π No worry, you’re welcome !
Here a little reminder.
Private group access:
This is a private group. To join you must be a registered site member and request group membership.Hidden group access:
Hidden groups are not listed on group directory, for visitors and members. This is explained in the 1st step of the group creation page.
You must be invited to join a hidden group. Once accepted, you see this hidden group only in your group list. Additionnaly, you have to be friends first before you can invite a member to join a hidden group. If you try to access a hidden group as visitor, you’ll see a 404 page. Same thing if you’re logged-in and not member of the hidden group.
The group widget works like the group directory, and use the same filters (active, popular, newest). The widget is just smaller. And like the group directory, the widget doesn’t mention the hidden groups, even if you’re member of such a group.
So, I guess it is not a issue.
In reply to: Frisco for Buddypress ajax not workingremember that you are on a buddypress support, not a divi or any other theme support.
If your install is working correctly with 2014 and not with divi, it is not a buddypress issue, but a theme issue.Likewise, you use a premium theme and it’s just impossible for us to help you on this point, as we have no access to such theme. And you probably can understand that we cannot buy them, just in case of to help some users. Premium themes generally include support in the licence.
So please take contact with the author.
You can also search the forum. I am certain that you can figure this out in a sec. Too.
You cannot use css to allow colors on swa activities and not on groups activities, as both use the same activity ID.
If you use the function, you can use bp_is_group() to add a conditionnal to the return. Like this
if ( !bp_is_group()) { return $class; }The ! means if not a group activity page do nothing, else (swa activity in your case), return.
In reply to: Extended Profile Deletes Base Profile "Display Name"the ticket is fixed and closed since 19 mounth.
If you follow the last IRC discussion around this ticket – 7 mounth ago – you’ll see that the issue cames again, and a new fix was added. Also from IRC, test this setting.
Anyway, if you think the issue is still there, feel free to open a new ticket and give the steps to reproduce. Follow Boone’s instructions
Login to Trac use the same credentials as bp.org forum.
In reply to: Line breaks in profile fields descriptionsplease don’t jump in old topics. Even if it seems to you to have the same issue, the topic was started almost two years back.
Open a new topic and indicate your bp version, theme name, used plugins and recently modifications (functions or bp-custom.php). Thank you.
thank you for your reply !
The php GD2 library is necessary on your server to handle images. To all readers:
In case of issues with common image handling and/or image cropping, ensure that your php has GD library enabled.
On hosted servers, it is generally the case, but not on local with WAMP for example.
Making a phpinfo will help you.
Read also here about other server requirements (required or optionnal)
In reply to: Custom Taxonomy for GroupsIs this something that will be able to happen in the 2.1 version?
No !
If you readed sarah’s post, ou have seen a mention to a post by Andrew Nacin on the Make (published 2013/28/07) where he writes:A disclaimer: This post doesnβt promise anything. Do not rely on the contents of this post for future projects. It will take us some time to lay out the proper groundwork and make sure we get this right. Do not expect this to happen in WordPress 3.7, or even 3.8. (Actually, do not expect this to happen at all.)
Nothing about taxonomies is annonced for WP 4.0, so don’t expect that BP 2.1 will get something around taxo before WP.
You may use BP Group Taxo – as experimental plugin. π
In reply to: Extended Profile Deletes Base Profile "Display Name"thank you for your reply!
You found a solution with a third party plugin. Glad it works for you, but it doesn’t really help BP users encountering the issue discribed by @solutionstriwareca. An issue which is, as @mercime said, “never seen before”. In other words unknown.Let’s try to stay on a buddypress pov first, before searching workarounds.
