ParticipantWhat does the error log say about this? Anything? I found that right before the xmlrpc server sends the data it does strlen() on what it\\\’s gonna send. Then it sends it as one giant string. Over 64K and what happens? Looking to see if there is an inherent limit on string lengths.
I see what that LM… thread is about. As far as I can tell, xmlrpc in bbpress isn\’t limiting the num of \’things\’ returned. However it returns all the \’things\’ in one big string. It builds up the entire xml response and sends it.

Participant\”Copy 80,000 or so characters into the topic\”
I don\’t know why I find those directions amusing but I do. Anyway. What is the LSMaxSearchCount post you are talking about. That doesn\’t even seem to be in the forums here. Did a search. That doesn\’t even seem to be a likely bp, mu or bbpress var. They don\’t use camel case. Can you point me to that post please?I do see this happening on your site. I have to make sure I’m looking at the right xmlrpc code on the bbpress side. There are two ‘get the topic’ functions. I have to check and make sure I track things from beginning to end. Don’t want to be looking at code that isn’t being used on the bbpress xmlrpc side.
Gimme a few.

ParticipantThe text is posted on the buddypress interface for a topic. The number of replies isn’t important, it’s the amount of characters contained in all replies. From my testing, the limit seems to be around 80,000 characters (with spacing). That sounds like a lot but really isn’t in an active topic.
For example, here’s a link to the problem – http://brentandmary.net/groups/usma-87/forum/topic/9
Here’s that same “topic” via the bbpress backend – http://brentandmary.net/forums/topic.php?id=9
To reproduce
- Have a buddypress install with bbpress integrated
- From buddypress, go into a group
- Create a new group topic
- Copy 80,000 or so characters into the topic
You’ll eventually get to a point where buddypress returns a message “There are no posts for this topic.”
Yesterday, I looked at that post about “LSMaxSearchCount” but I don’t see anywhere that’s configured nor where to configure it. Seems like a likely culprit.

ParticipantHmm. I see what you are saying though. Perhaps it does have something to do with the xmlrpc comm stuff. The underlying bbpress_live code gets a topic and all the replies in one gulp. Doesn\\\’t matter if there is 1 reply or 100. It gets them all.
Put\\\’s me on the right track. OK. Off to investigate.
Well, maybe I remember incorrectly. There does seem to be pagination code in there.
There’s pagination code in there but bbpress ignores the pagination parameters. We get the topic and all replies. That’s what I remember. It’s coming back to me now. Still looking.

Burt Adsit
ParticipantHi Mike. The escape char issue here probably doesn’t have anything to do with your install. It’s related to this install of bbpress more than likely. What do you mean that you have the same issue. This kinda thing was solved some time ago.
I was just in that thread and didn’t notice anything odd. Perhaps Andy just installed the filter goodies needed for that.

KeymasterThis is the built in caching functionality in bbPress live which is used for bp-forums. You can delete these and turn off caching if you don’t want them.

ParticipantOK. I had been looking into the LDAP issue and apparently it does work. In the LDAP plugin forum, I saw that Josswinn (Member here) was also looking into this and he was able to get it to work. Hopefully he will check out my posting once he gets my email.

ParticipantOK. I did a fresh install and only added Database Integration. Actually I did it both ways with cookies as well as with only database integration. On both I get this setup errors…
>>> WordPress “auth” cookie salt not set.
>>>>>> Could not fetch “auth” cookie salt from the WordPress options table.
>>>>>> You will need to manually define the “auth” cookie salt in your database.
>>> WordPress “logged in” cookie salt not set.
>>>>>> Could not fetch “logged in” cookie salt from the WordPress options table.
>>>>>> You will need to manually define the “logged in” cookie salt in your database.
The problem is that these are not defined in the database to my knowledge. I think the ldap plugin takes these out? Any suggestions on how I could integrate the forums with the LDAP WPMU Plugin??

Moderatorgot bbpress working but their is no option in bpress to use 4) Edit “settings” to enable xmlrpc and pingbacks (both) this just does not exits in bbpress
this part makes no sense either: groups page just lists all the buddypress groups. I do not understand why or where you would put this url.
6) Go into your main blog dashboard as the “site-admin” and go to the groups admin page. Put in the URL of your forum like http://yoursite.com/forums/ and make sure you have the ending slash on that one.
In the MU admin there is no groups forum link. I have the bp-forums folder in mu-plugins.
The read me file is lacking what and where to put files.

ParticipantDo I only need to setup bbPress with database sharing? Or do I need to setup the cookies as well? I think I have both setup properly. It did work for a short period. Then when new users started signing up it broke.

Burt Adsit
ParticipantLooks like something is improperly stripping the lt and gt chars from your forum text. Do you have the bbpress plugin buddypress-enable.php activated in bbpress? It comes with bp and is distributed in the /mu-plugins/bp-forums/bbpress-plugins.
Has something disabled the standard bp filter bp_forums_filter_decode() that lives in bp-forums-filters.php?

KeymasterMake sure you have activated the buddypress-enable.php bbpress plugin that comes with the bp-forums component.

Participantbobman024, the xmlrpc.php file can’t be used like you are trying. Not sure why you are. It just has to be there for use by the xmlrpc function call protocol.

ParticipantBurtadsit,
I do have all the users listed in bbPress. In fact from the admin panel in bbPRess, if I delete a user, they disappear from WPMU. I kinda thought that if I was to delete the troubled user in bbPress that maybe the account would be recreated and all would be well. It actualy deleted them from WPMU – Thank God for SnapShots on the VM. When I say one troubled user, I mean the one who reported the issue. I tried other accounts and had the same issues with writing forum posts.
Should I just delete the bbPress install and try it again? Then I could just have the groups recreate the forums? We are just getting started, so it should not be an issue.
POssibly the reason for the users not being able to login to bbPress is because the passwords for the accounts are actually stored in LDAP where the authentication occurs on the WPMU side? There is a password in the WPMU database, but I think it may just be a generic type that is not used and generated by the plugin. Could this be the issue and if so, how might I work through it?
March 21, 2009 at 2:05 pm #40589In reply to: How do I put login-search-bar into bb-press header
Burt Adsit
ParticipantThe bp admin bar relies on it running in wp. bbpress is not wp. Sorry but it isn’t possible. You can simulate such a thing though. I did such a thing many moons ago. I took the guts of the file bp-core-adminbar.php and replace them with bbpress like things and hardcoded the rest.

KeymasterBob… Man… I’ll be happy to take a better look at this with you tomorrow in more detail… This is one of difficult demons to track down, as deep integration does introduce a WHOLE lot more functions into play than either program really plans for…
It’s possible to do, but there’s a few steps I’ll need to walk you through that I don’t have the time for at this moment. But, we should be able to get it working.
