@mercime
ParticipantThen this means that you have not completed Step 3 of the BP Compatibility process, i.e., fixing alignment and HTML structure of BP template files to use your own theme’s HTML structure. Check if your WP theme has already been “template-packed” in list near the end of the webpage linked to above.

Member@mercime Ive copied across loop, loop-page, loop-home and single
Im not sure how much this impacts upon the buddypress format, but I am in the process of trying to get rid of the comments form out of these templates (loop, loop-page) as it is really ugly and I would prefer users commenting with Facebook, etc… still not 100% sure how i will do it, but reading up
thanks again.

May 3, 2012 at 10:26 am #133920In reply to: Restricting group creation to admins
Joshua Craig
ParticipantHi everyone,
I’m currently working on a project and my client wants only the admins to be able to create groups, so I set that option in the BuddyPress admin area, easy peasy. But, the Create A Group button still appears on the front end. For now I am simply looking for a way to hide that button, and I’ve added the CSS @Mike Pratt suggested but the button remains. Any ideas?
What would be really cool (not that I have a clue how to do this) would be:
1.) BP functionality that automagically removes the Create A Group button when you select that only admins can create groups, that would be ideal.
or
2.) A way to change the URL of the Create A Group button for the members level, so you could create a Request A Group page with a form that a member can fill out requesting a group. That is what I’d like to do, but I’m at a loss for where to start in the code, and I’m not much of a PHP dev.May 3, 2012 at 10:10 am #133919In reply to: remove ’register link’ from admin bar

‘title’ => __( ‘Log in and register’, ‘buddypress’ ),
‘href’ => wp_login_url()
) );
}

If this doesn’t work, you will need to contact wpmudev as they are probably doing something really weird

Participanthi @juanmaguerrero, great tutorial!
unfortunately, bug that @shawn38 has mentioned partly is still there. Go to site wide activities, switch to “updates” as drop down filter – everything still will work fine, but now refresh page and bug is back again. If you have custom bp_has_members loop on separate page, bug is always there. Have to say that for those, who really needs this functionality, it is not so terrible. thanks again!May 3, 2012 at 8:56 am #133916In reply to: Activity Filters
James
Participanthi @ChrisClayton, bp_has_activities( ‘object=groups&primary_id=…, …’) is a working solution for custom loop. Problem is that I need this loop to appear as a drop down filter in site wide activities, e.g. Everything, Updates, etc. That’s why I want to add this “, but cannot get how to tell it to use “object=groups&primary_id=1”, and if it is possible at all, since, as Paul mentioned, bp_dtheme_ajax_querystring() uses just few parameters.

Participant“there is a plugin out there that tells you what template is being parsed”
I’m assuming your talking about ‘Reveal templates’ or is their another one?“but it does not seem to work on buddypress.”
Yeah, BuddyPress does templating really weirdly. BuddyPress never talks to WordPress’ template loading functions which is why most of thoes types of plugins don’t work. The plugin should work after ‘theme compatibility’ comes, https://buddypress.org/2012/04/the-default-theme/

@ChrisClayton
Participant“do I understand correctly that there is no way to add simple filter which would return loop with specific IDs”
@janismo is the ‘include’ parameter what your after?
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
`include optional
Pass an activity_id or string of comma separated ids to show only these entries.Default value: false`
According to the codex, include=1,2,3 should only show activities with the Activity ID’s of 1, 2 and 3.

@ChrisClayton
Participant“I am using buddypress but are there any plugins for bp or wordpress that will do what I want?”
Nope. Not that i know of.“I would also like it if when users clicked on their name it brought them to a full profile page with a list of posts underneath..”
Not sure what your asking here, it sounds like WordPress does this by default with their Author Archives?“Im looking for a plugin that will provide a list of my authors with a short profile..”
If you require it in a plugin, you might need to hire someone to do it. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-jobs-board/WordPress has a function called wp_list_authors()
(see: https://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_authors)By default, it will link to the WordPress Author archive, i just used the ‘author_link’ filter to make the author id go through `bp_core_get_userlink();` which will make it link to the User’s BuddyPress profile.

Participant> Are there any plugins out there that make this easier for novice-coders?
Not really you will just have to bite the bullet and learn to code a little, or, and if you’re running a a site that you hope to capitalise on in some way then consider employing developers to handle this aspect – freebie help will only take you so far – quite far with mercimes help but ought to be considered a helping hand to kick start you off.
In view of the help in progress on the other thread this one is closed.

Participant== but if I wanted to change it to reflect something closer to the Frisco for Buddypress theme, but instead Red, Black and White to suit my website, how would I go about this? ==
@jakeyboy1989 You could do that by using Firebug, Firefox add-on, and/or copying the styles of the BP elements from Frisco onto your current WP theme’s stylesheet. I suggest you do that after you implement the template changes I will post here later.
So to continue with fixing the alignment of your BP template files, I need the content of your theme’s loop-page.php file in pastebin.com as well.

Participant@famous sorry, there are no plugins that does what you want at this time. You’d need to create one OR hire a developer to do so OR wait till someone releases this kind of plugin at the WP plugin repo.

@ChrisClayton
Participant@bigjosh – their are some privacy plugins that will allow a user to choose who can see their details
such as: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-profile-privacy/If it’s possible to wait afew weeks, this feature has also been written for Core, to be included in the next major release (bp 1.6) Here is the developers announcement of the feature – http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2012/03/16/profile-field-visibility-in-bp-1-6/

MemberHere are the 6 files @mercime including sidebar-footer.php. Thanks again for your help. Appreciate the tips. Its the header and footer that have gotten me quite lost…
The other thing I was wondering.. is it possible to change the look of buddypress within the template.. For example, at the moment it looks like it takes its styling from the default bp template, but if I wanted to change it to reflect something closer to the Frisco for Buddypress theme, but instead Red, Black and White to suit my website, how would I go about this?
Would it be a matter of copying the files from the new template over the default template files and then using a css sheet to redefine some values?
Thanks again! Cant say how much I appreciate it!

Participant@starprintbrokers Go to BuddyPress > Pages and check if Registration is still associated with a Page. If it is,resave page. Don’t know why that’s acting up with Salutation theme. If you change to bp-default theme, does the register issue also happen there or is it resolved?

@jakeyboy1989 Fixing alignment and making BP template files mesh in with your theme’s styles at https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/publicprivate-sites-cross-posting-content/?#post-128351May 3, 2012 at 2:28 am #133901@mercime
Participant== Im still having some issues getting the template to work though. ==
@jakeyboy1989 I can see by the source code that you’re using Blogging News by Colorlabs. To help you fix alignment and some styles: open up your Blogging News theme’s header.php, Copy all, Paste in pastebin.com, Click submit, Post generated URI here. Do the same for: index.php, page.php, sidebar.php and footer.php.

ParticipantAnd did you go through Appearance > BP compatibility process? It looks like you have not finished with Step 3 – https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#step-three – where you need to fix alignment, then keep the bp.css enabled and adjust some styles to your theme.

Participant@artisantopia Per scan of your theme’s HTML structure, you’d need to use the first option, i.e., change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your Alyeska theme folder in server during the compatibility process.

Participant@zturton you should be contacting the theme author for your premium theme. We have no ready access to the theme. Either there are missing files or you have to configure BuddyPress settings in theme options panel, if any or the theme needs to be updated.

MemberI am stuck again. I worked with my host and had the entire site removed. I removed themes, WordPress, everything to start with a fresh install. I installed WordPress, then BuddyPress and them Salutaion. To my relief, all the pages showed up. I tested it by going going to the template’s “Register” and “Sign in buttons on the first page. They worked fine. In Register on that front pagepull down menu, I clicked the “Sign up instantly!” button. It took me right to the Registration page, just as it should. I starting add in photos, and content to the Why MeggieBooks and the Get in Touch pages. I’ve been careful not to change many settings unless so I would not run into trouble. I have not added any plugins. So I was just showing it off, and pressed the “Sign up Instantly!” button and it now takes me to the front page, or maybe doesn’t take me anywhere. I see that all the content is now gone on the Registration page.
