Participant@tntag r-a-y has just updated this page https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ If you’re importing CSS from bp-default theme, then you just need to adjust styles in your child theme’s stylesheet. If you’ve created your own stylesheet which is not dependent on bp-default theme’s stylesheet, then see 2nd code here https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/1-5-child-theme-not-working/#post-108430

KeymasterWhat @zacechola said. Make sure that you put the code *above* the “That’s all” line.

ParticipantPlease double-check what your PHP version is. WP 3.2.1 and BP 1.5 require at least PHP 5.4 while your version is 5.1.56. Or did you mean 5.15.6 – big difference.

ParticipantI am actually a fairly good code hacker – not a programmer, but I can go in and fix most things – and I’m a QA Engineer and I have to say that the buddypress codex that I’ve looked at so far is just about incomprehensible to me. To the point where I don’t even bother to look at it. It doesn’t tell me exactly what I need to know. It gives generic examples. I really need to sit down with a developer – unfortunately I can’t afford that luxury and am stuck figuring this out on my own. BuddyPress, and WordPress for that matter is not my be all end all, it’s a platform that should be usable out of the box – and neither one of them are.
Ending rant. Sorry – I’ve just wasted so much time on figuring this out – and I’ve gotten just about nowhere.

@mercime
ParticipantThank you @r-a-y Bravo!
@naijaping Which of the two codes above didn’t work for you? Both codes prevent bp-default’s stylesheet from being enqueued in wp_head. I may not have explained it more thoroughly above.
The first code – write all your custom styles in style.css of child theme or @import style from e.g. a css folder within your child theme’s folder and get the layout you want without interference.
The second code – child theme’s style.css file only has the header portion i.e. theme name, author, etc. but no styles or @import since stylesheet is enqueued in child theme’s functions.php file. I edited second code above to register the stylesheet before enqueueing.

KeymasterAre you trying to change the height of the header image background or the header in general?
If you are trying the change the height of the header only, first create a child theme.
Then in your child theme’s style.css, add the following:
`#header {height:300px;}`

Member@mercime @blogurp @granville Before I go any further please allow me to say thank you for all of your help. I am post the solution to my problem in hopes that it will help someone else.
The problem was with the .htaccess, not its configs but it was the permissions. I had a security plugin installed that told me that this file needed to be locked down and it gave me two settings. I choose the stricter setting and did not realize I locked my whole site. The hosting company saw it in the error file
(AGH, I did not think about checking these but I should have.)Thanks Again

ParticipantDeactivate BuddyPress. Make sure you can create a subsite with your WP install first. If you cannot, resolve multisite installation first before activating BuddyPress at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite
