In reply to: Buddypress Child Themes
@mercime
Participant== Can someone please give me a dullards guide on installing child themes. How I am doing it now because that’s what I’ve read, is to activate the child theme and not the parent theme. But it still ain’t happening.==
The question is whether you created a child theme of bp-default theme or of a WordPress theme.
– If you created a child theme of bp-default theme (https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/), upload the folder you created to server wp-content/themes/, then activate the child theme and you’re good to go and customize further.
– If you created a child theme of a regular WordPress theme, then you also need to install and activate the BP Template Pack plugin to make your child theme compatible with BuddyPress

Thanks for your work and your fast reply!Have you considered uploading your work to http://code.google.com ? Here you can receive feedback directly and people can report bugs? I have seen a lot of developers use it. It is a great way to get help for it also.
You can start from here: http://code.google.com/p/support/wiki/GettingStartedIs there a place where I can see/get your code at the moment? (saw that you had problems pasting it in here)
Really appreciate your work

ParticipantSorry @vegasparty607 but in order for this to look right I will need a link to “your site” . either way i meant for 117px to be 130px i edited my last update , review it.
The span’s css is ` `@naijaping make sure you made the folders `wp-content/themes/(yourTheme)/members/single/member-header.php`
and not `wp-content/themes/(yourTheme)/member-header.php`@mikey3d thanks for pointing that out, if that isn’t his site then he must be using the same theme, I have had alot of people wanting help but most don’t like to link to their sites. Kinda odd, since a link with help promote their site.

Virtuali
ParticipantThink of it this way-
If it’s taking a really long time to develop, it must be blooming with very cool features.
Would you rather have an update with little to no additions/fixes, but takes a short amount of time, or an update with tons of additions/fixes, and have it take a little while longer.
Also, buddypress is *free*, so what are you complaining about?

MemberIt is possible to use qtranslate to get a multilanguage buddypress website, however, there are issues. When using the non-default language, the ajax-loaded content will display a “No content found” (ie: “There were no groups found”) warning in the default language. Also some items in the ‘activity’ listing do not get translated properly ‘sometimes’, for example, I am using Spanish and English and in the default list produced on the activity page it shows the same message sometimes in English and sometimes in Spanish, it seems pretty random, I haven’t done any investigating why, yet. So while it looks like a possible solution (qtranslate & buddypress), it definitely needs some work.

Participant@naijaping . Ok this is what i came up with based on your sites css.
go to your theme’s /member-header.php
find `
`replace it with this
`
<a href="profile/change-avatar/”>Change Picture
// change avatar
$(document).ready(function(){
$(“#item-header-avatar”).hover(function(){
$(“span”, this).stop().animate({top:”130px”},{queue:false,duration:200});
}, function() {
$(“span”, this).stop().animate({top:”160px”},{queue:false,duration:200});
});
});`
You could also remove the inline css and place this inside your css file :
`#item-header-avatar {
float: left;
height: 150px;
overflow: hidden;
padding-right: 20px;
width: 150px;
}
#item-header-avatar span {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #FFFFFF;
font-weight: bold;
left: 0;
padding: 4px 25px;
position: relative;
text-align: center;
top: 150px;
z-index: 10000;
}`May 28, 2011 at 6:43 pm #113257Reboot
MemberIsn’t that just for core buddypress? I am using the followers plugin, can anyone help with something more specific? there are a lot of people that could benefit from this.

ParticipantIs this going to be required for bp-1.3 and further??? I don’t ever plan to upgrade the template pack because I have made so many changes to the files that It would be impossible to do it again.

KeymasterWe have no idea what site you might be referring to when you say “some buddypress site.” I think I know what you mean, which the answer is http://jetpack.me/, but that’s a total guess.

ParticipantThere really is a huge imbalance between Users of this app and those actively trying to develop it, move it forward. As Boone says ‘get involved’ if more people got involved things may run a little more smoothly and faster, give up a little bit of time reporting bugs to trac, testing patches if you can and feeding back.

ParticipantWhat gallery plugin do you have installed @Aliceembroid?
I’m going to set up a test bp site, to test the new plugin, i’ll install them both and try to figure out the issue.@opatachibueze , I don’t see a problem with the posts content in the activity stream. Maybe you could give more detail on the topic.

KeymasterBuddyPress development moves as quickly as it can with an all-volunteer crew of developers and support specialists. If you’re concerned that things aren’t moving quickly enough, you should get involved.

MemberI have a sneaking suspicion that Buddypress is dying..
I have many problems using it for my community and seriously consider changing. BuddyPress development is super slow and the community seems very thin.
What are your experiences?
