First (and at the moment, the only one) for me is BP-Gallery (www.buddydev.com) – it’s a premium plugin with lots of possibilities and it’s worth the money you have to pay for.
Another opportunity will be (in march, the developers say) BP-Media (Bp-Album+), you can find it here: http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/
At the moment the stable version doesn’t support Audio, but you can play around with the nightly build.

The answer depends on your site’s goals and visitors. An option is to consider the bbpress plugin that will be released soon (https://trac.bbpress.org/browser#branches/plugin).
It happens on both custom and default themes.

The buddypress forums are actually bbpress wired. They are mainly the same concept so yes.

The requiring x amount of numbers for a password can be done with JavaScript
No, like a browser bookmarklet so when you are on say YouTube to click bookmarklet it opens small window to post an update with video in update.
Though that badge plugin should be kept alive

Okay if reinstalling now were an option I would totally do it, but I’m working on a project that has come too far and MUST launch in a day. Funny enough, “fixing the broken buddypress forums” was the last item on a long list of to dos.
I’m not afraid to dive into the config file or the database to do what needs to be done.
