Please describe fully how it is not working when you are using the default BP theme.

If you cannot get it working using the default Buddypress theme – it’s not a Genesis issue and the plugin will not help.

Please help. I’ve installed BuddyPress as well as the template pack, but I dont know how to get started. I have a very basic (and silly) question. What kind of wordpress page do I need to create to associate it with the respective BP pages? Do I need to design my own forum, registration page etc?

Whenever I have Xdebug active, it either prevents anything from being displayed on the page or throws an Allowed memory size exhausted error on a buddypress site I am testing on my local server. Has anyone else encountered this with buddypress? Any suggestions? Let me know if there’s other info I should provide.

@mercime, thanks for the reply, but the cat list is not the issue.

Here’s the beginning of the story: I have a common WP structure with 200+ categories, which are used for regular WP posts. I want to have additional functionality (like custom post type), but without cloning that tree – using the same cat structure.

So URL for a post in WP look like /parentcat/subcat/
And that additional “post type” URL shall be like /page/parentcat/subcat/
I would parse the URL and show the content for that subcat.

But when you try to get non-existent URL (I don’t want to recreate the whole tree, it’s really big), you get 404.

What can I use to make that /page/ template work, not 404 template?

@jishi this is more of a WordPress issue rather than a BP one. Create a Page Template and replace the_content with wp_list_categories or just search for and use one of the list categories plugin to generate what you want in the Page https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/categories

@raminjan install the Firebug add-on for Firefox, right-click on the element you want to change, then add the changes to your stylesheet.

The current styles for the updated message

I want to remove the favorite buttons from activiy (know that if I just delete the ahref reference it does) and remove the link “my favorites” from buddypress bar and menus in user profile, and where it exists more.

It seems like you’re using a 3rd-party plugin for the group forum editor. Please contact the plugin developer for support.

Here are a couple of editors you could try:

You’re using an older version of BuddyPress Links. Please either deactivate that plugin or upgrade to the premium version of the plugin.

Then, try upgrading to BuddyPress 1.5.7.

The main site is being used primarily as an organization website. There is a blog page, but for the most part, they are just pages filled with information utilizing WordPress so that the client does not need to use code to manage their website.

So what you’re saying is follow the steps that will allow the organization theme to play nicely with Buddypress?

Hello,
To help with the integration of Buddypress with a third-party system, I need to create a page which can take an ID as a parameter and load the associated buddypress group. For example:

/page.php?id=5 would load the group with the ID of 5

I have not been able to achieve this despite trying many approaches. Any help would be much appreciated!

I am looking for a way to duplicate bp-groups easily. I want to add another element to my website, titled ‘Projects’ that will act in a very similar manner as groups and have the same privacy restrictions but will have a few different tabs added to each page. I was wondering how to most easily go about doing this and how I can make sure it will not be erased when buddypress or any other plug-ins are updated.

I clicked on “update” for the new buddypress plugin (1.5.7 I think) and the update page said the update was successful but then it had a fatal error below it. I hit “refresh” on my browser and now my site won’t load and I get the same fatal error saying:
“Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_site_admin() in /home/rebsen1/recreationtherapynetwork.com/wp-content/plugins/buddypress-links/bp-links-core.php on line 704”

My site is http://www.recreationtherapynetwork.com.

Please help me!!!

I have a site that runs WordPress 3.4.1 with Buddypress 1.5.6
It has the Group forums turned on but they just mess me about and here is why:
1. The editor will format a forum page quite nicely yet the formatting disappears when the forum post is displayed
2. I put in standard double quotes and it decides to change them to something different. Took me ages to solve that one today when that messed up an html snippet that I had posted.
3. I post a snippet of html to demonstrate something which gets displayed as html. I go i to correct a typo and then it decides to decipher it as a link. I use the actual codes around the link then edit the post again cos I still had something wrong. It has decided to replace the codes yet again. Basically I am unable to edit a post for fear that it will change something
4. There is no easy way to add images to forum posts yet I can do it in the actual group. Now I may just be missing a plugin for this one but I cannot tell users to type in the html to include something. They dont know html so I increase my support load

I need forums to work for some things but the way they are is causing me immense frustration. I may be missing something obvious. If so What?

Note that I wont change core files because I have enough of an IT background to know that causes many problems with upgrades. Child theme might be the solution although I would prefer to wait for BP 1.6 to do that

@mercime – Thankyou! Good to know that my scenario is not an error, just not current functionality.

My problem now is that I don’t know how to code I rely on adding plugins… If I understand correctly, the tutorial is how to create a custom plugin, which may be beyond me.

I know I just have to copy and paste the code into a text file, name it correctly, and copy the file(s) to the correct directory – but I don’t know what to call it, or where to file it – I’ll ask on the tutorial – unless you can tell me

Deactivate BP Template Pack plugin and change to bp-default theme. Is issue resolved? What WP theme were you using?

That’s a strange issue. Deactivate all plugins, change to Twenty Eleven then delete the BuddyPress plugin either via Delete link in Plugins Installed page or via FTP/File Manager. Then download and install BuddyPress plugin again then check if issue is resolved.

@ultimateuser userbase is separate by default but super admin and blog admins can invite users from other blogs and last time I checked it out, there’s a function posted in BuddyDev forums where you can have the same userbase across the network if you want it that way, OR allow the users to choose which subsite/s they want to join by using http://buddydev.com/buddypress/introducing-join-blog-widget-for-wordpress-multisite/

I have tried all of the suggestions in many other threads regarding this issue, but nothing works for me so I am starting a new thread.

Problem: I have group forums installed, however I am unable to post a topic in any group (I get the red error message stated in the title above). I have “Enable discussion forum” checked under the admin settings for the group, and I have also tried toggling this setting and saving. I have bbPress installed, but have tried disabling the plugin and deleting bb-config.php prior to re-installing group forums. I have checked the settings in bb-config.php to make sure that they match wp-config.php. I have also tried deleting the group and creating a new one.

FYI:
1. WordPress version 3.4.1
2. WordPress is not installed on a subdomain.
3. Install is in the root directory.
4. Upgraded from previous version of WordPress.
5. WordPress was functioning properly prior to installing Buddypress.
6. Buddypress version 1.5.7
7. I did not upgrade from a previous version of Buddypress.
8. I have deactivated all other plugins besides Buddypress but still have the same issue.
9. I am using my own custom theme, along with BuddyPress Template Pack plugin.
10. I have not modified the core files.
11. I have no custom functions in bp-custom.php.
12. I have bbPress version 2.1.1
13. My server’s error log is empty.
14. I use Inmotion hosting.
15. Apache version 2.2.22, PHP version 5.3.10, MySQL version 5.1.61-log, linux operating system
