ParticipantOK, here is the exact problem. The correct permalink to this page is as follows:
The permalink on https://buddypress.org/community/activity/ is truncated:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/this-is-just-a-test-post-to-determine-if-the-awesome-new-activity-permalThat points to the “BuddyPress now has it’s own bbPress forums” post, which I can only assume is the first post in the database.
On a related note, malformed/nonexistent topic slugs should trigger a 404, when instead, they are also defaulting to that alleged first post:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/omg-freaky-weird-nonexistent-topic-slug-that-is-not-realUpdate: This is now on trac at https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/2349

ParticipantOkay, that was exactly it. I moved the subdomains around (and threw up some htaccess to fix old links) and it’s working. It’s worth the sacrifice!
I’m allergic to iframes, but thank you for the offer!

Participantau contraire, mon frere… please go to the activity page and click on the hash (#). It brings up an Andy Peatling post about “BuddyPress now has it’s own bbPress forums…” (sorry for not adequately explaining in my initial post that I meant permalinks on the activity page!)
It may be user/browser specific – even if you are not seeing this problem, several of us have seen the mysterious “BuddyPress now has…” post (several meaning me, stwc, and el_terko)

KeymasterActually, now that I think about it, I think I implemented something for a BP subdomain site awhile ago.
It wasn’t the BuddyBar, but it was for a nav menu that had to be duplicated across all blogs.
However, the same technique should work.It requires using an iframe and some javascript to set the document.domain.
Some homework for you there, ipstenu!April 27, 2010 at 3:03 am #75393In reply to: bbpress deep integration

KeymasterOkay, that is possible, but you’ll have to theme your external bbPress install to match BuddyPress.
@arturo84 has created a bbPress theme that matches the default BP theme – https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/buddypress-default-theme-for-bbpress-1 – so you might want to check that out.

Member@Chad – I’m right there with you, buddy. I’ve added the code that @Phlux0r provided, both to my child theme and the actual buddypress theme. I’ve disabled all other plugins, tested on multiple browsers, and had other people try from their computers. Nobody can successfully change their avatar on my site. But the files are being uploaded, as they are visible via my FTP client. The image just never appears in the cropping stage.
Here is the link to my site, which hasn’t gone live yet: http://outgoinggames.com/

ParticipantVery, very nice work with the re-design.
I was apprehensive about updating to the newest version of BuddyPress- especially since I was pretty satisfied with the old version. And when the new look hit I was again a bit anxious about how different it appeared. However, after test-driving it for a few days with other members of my family, I – we – are really, really impressed with all the improvements and new features. Simply put, it rocks.
Thank you for all your hard work, for taking Buddy Press so seriously, and for sharing such a fantastic product with us!April 27, 2010 at 1:45 am #75387stwc
ParticipantSeriously, just to repeat myself, can I suggest #158EAF or something a little darker for the color of a:links? This low contrast stuff is killing me.

So much frustration trying to use these forums.

Participant@el_terko discovered that too-long topic titles break permalinks (#s) in the activity stream. Try clicking the permalink for any of the “promiscuous” topic items in the activity stream and it links you to a year- old thread.

ParticipantOn the /support/topics/ index page, it would be nice if there was a way to link to the latest post in the thread.

MemberI have the links plugin installed and it seems to work for anyone with the title admin – but so far – when creating links – no one with a membership can see the link even if they are in that group. The only way they can see the links is if the link is public to everyone. Strangely – even if this member creates a link in a group and makes it for friends only (group) – they still won’t be able to see their own link created unless public. Any suggestions?

MemberOh no! Does that mean I can’t set up a general forum OUTSIDE of a group? I want to create a forum that’s for EVERYONE, that anyone can post to no matter what group they are in or not. I THOUGHT I could do this by using the bbpress option, but my bbpress forums do not show up on the forum tab. (http://www.highvibework.com)
(I “hid” the Groups tab by commenting out the tab on the header.php file, because I don’t want to enable that feature for my crowd, but I also didn’t want to take away the forums function.)
Thanks in advance for any help.

Participantoff topic I know, but I have already seen a few replys in the activity stream on this post that don’t show up as replys in this forum post so could cause some confusion – i.e. what is @djpaul refereeing to in relation to @jeffsayre – seen it in the activity stream but that will soon be lost & no longer be relevant to this forum thread.

Keymaster@firetag – so you want to use BuddyPress’ built-in version of bbPress or do you want to install your own, external version of bbPress?
April 26, 2010 at 10:25 pm #75358In reply to: Following / Followers at testbp.org
Nahum
Participantglad if it’s in addition not a replacement*…because it’s completely different dynamic depending on what you set out for a community. @djpaul will the plugin replace friends once activated or will it be in addition to? I’m thinking about and working on having both options, to friend and then be able to follow specific activities even beyond member activity such as groups, blogs, links, images, topic, searchkeyword….so its not follow member, it’s follow X activity and categorize my followings. anyway just what i’m thinking as how i’d try to use it …either way can’t wait to test it out.

Keymaster@dains – if your WPMU installation is installed under “groups”, there will be a conflict with BuddyPress. Either try installing WPMU under the root or re-define the BP Groups slug.
Put this in your wp-config.php:
define ( 'BP_GROUPS_SLUG', 'gatherings' );Change “gatherings” to whatever you want your groups to be called.
@cpmrgmt – try this:
