Andy Peatling
KeymasterSuper cache is not a good solution for BuddyPress since the pages are updating all the time and the cache becomes poisoned too quickly. Object cache is a much better approach.

KeymasterIt is not defective. Many people have set it up with no problems, you need to provide more details on your WPMU version and setup, as well as your server setup. Without this you are just shouting and no one can help you.

ParticipantStill does not work , I would have to do a fresh install and I am not willing to loose everything just to use a new version of buddypress
buddypress 1.1 is defective and I am not the only one with the issue.
We need a fix or people will go back to buddypress.10 until the new version is bug free

ParticipantHum. Strange. But, your best bet is still to contact the plugin developer.
By the way, I have moved this thread to the “Third Party Components & Plugins” forum as it is more than likely not a BuddyPress issue but a plugin conflict.

ParticipantThe weird thing is that it works and displays the splash page to visitors, it’s me when logged in that gets the white screen on the actual site.

ParticipantI have not heard of any issues, but then again, I have also not heard of anyone using that particular plugin with BuddyPress. Did it work with BP 1.0.3? Does the plugin even say that it will work with BuddyPress at all?
I suggest contacting the plugin developer and asking them when (or if) they plan to offer support for BP 1.1

ParticipantThanks for this Simon. I have 2 questions though:
1. Do I just have to add this code at https://trac.buddypress.org/attachment/ticket/1150/hook-to-stop-group-creation.diff in the bp-groups.php or do I have to edit the whole file? If I have to edit it, in what particular part of the file should I put the code?
2. The code in https://trac.buddypress.org/attachment/ticket/1150/restrict-group-creation.php will be used as a plugin right? and I will upload it in the plugins folder and activate it?
Thanks in advance for your response!

Participantthe 1st issue is a bug with the templates
if you have any templates , your reach a fatal error when activating BP1.1
Andy provided a tip to use the default template
So I uploaded the new templates 1st and then changed BP1.0 to point to the new template for BP1.1
that is the only way I can activate the plugin
after it activate there is no style on the templates which came with BP1.1
I am sure I am not the only one having these issues
I even did a fresh install and after that the result was the same
to me BP1.1 is defective and I do not have a solution
I have no choice but to downgrade back to BP1.0 because BP1.1 does not work

Berkshireman
ParticipantThanks, Choufi. And there’s to need to apologize for your English! I’ll try it out.
I’ll point out one possibly related problem. The BP installation won’t take the default theme. The drop-down menu keeps reverting to the parent themes in P General Settings. If BP can’t find a usable theme, if can’t find the content.

ParticipantPlease read this BP Codex article:
There are simply too many variables to give an iron-clad, standard approach that will work for every setup. As Simon states above, you need to test and experiment to see what tools and configurations work best given your specific setup.

Participant@alexduvot-
Okay, your current issue is not too clear anymore. Originally, you created this post because you could not get BP to activate. It appears that you have successfully activated BP but now have theme issues? Correct?
To resolve issues, you need to boil your install down to its lowest, common denominator. Assuming that you have successfully activate BP, then what you need to do is switch to the default BP theme then deactivate all plugins except BP.
Is BP working fine after doing that?
If so, then you either have an issue with a 3rd-party theme or one of your plugins.
Also, check your server’s error logs to see if there is any information. It can help point you in the proper direction

KeymasterWow, Westpointer, we had the same idea at the same time. https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/group-forum-subscription
My version allows a bit more user control (opting out of specific discussions or entire groups) by using bbPress’s native Favorites function. I wonder if there’s some way you and I can combine forces

ParticipantWhether you are upgrading or installing BuddyPress for the first time, the instructions are clear on what to do with the theme files:
Upgrading: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/upgrading-from-10x/
Installing new: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/
Please, always read the instructions before upgrading an old or installing a new copy of BuddyPress. The readme.txt file that comes with BuddyPress is also clear on what to do with the theme files.
As it is quick, simple, and painless, I always manually upgrade or install new BP versions, instead you using automatic update. You have more control over the process.
