KeymasterHello
We aren’t going to admin your site. I’ve edited your post and removed the admin username and password; that was a very, very silly thing to do and I suggest you immediately go in and change the password.
Please help us help you by answering these questions.

KeymasterMichael, you can also try protecting spam signups by using a RewriteRule in your .htaccess:
http://wpmututorials.com/how-to/spam-blogs-and-buddypress/
This is quite an effective method that will stop most spambot signups (except the manual ones!)

KeymasterNot sure if everyone knew this, but wordpress.org uses BuddyPress now!
Check it out:

KeymasterI’m assuming you mean BuddyPress, as opposed to bbPress which is the forum component.
Yes, comments posted on existing blogs on the WPMU installation will appear in the BuddyPress activity feeds. Make an account on http://testbp.org and have a play

ParticipantIf the current codebase was released into the plugins repository, then other developers who possibly have more time to spend on the plugin could work to improve it to a polished state.
I’m sure there would be plenty of people willing to lend a hand, I for one would be happy to help on the UI front.

ParticipantHi. I have the same problem. But it doesn’t depend on changing of themes. Simply posts from some blogs are not showing in the recent posts widget on the main page of BuddyPress site. Also new posts from these blogs are not showing in Activity widget and RSS. Because of it, problem is not in these widgets and plugins, but deeper.

ParticipantPatches Recap (Project SSL):
https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/ticket/1111
https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/ticket/1107
https://trac.bbpress.org/ticket/1136
https://trac.bbpress.org/ticket/1190
https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/979
A lot depends on 1111 and 1107.
It introduces ‘force_ssl_content’ and I think everything under the sun can use it.
If 1111 goes through you might as well add ‘Securing Buddypress’ to the roadmap, let R-A-Y, the gang and myself loose on this task.

Participant@John – I had a similar question, so I might as well attach it to this post.
I have my wpmu setup and running. I have already registered a number of users and accounts. I did create a ‘placeholder’ subdomain blog for my future buddypress install. I also set the wpmu admin to automatically add all new users to that blog.
So the question is simple:
When I add buddypress to the subdomain, will buddypress automatically recognize all the members of that subdomain blog?
I was told in another post awhile back that buddypress actually does not have it’s own registration system but uses wpmu. So by that theory I would expect buddypress to recognize everyone once it’s turned on….

Participant@chargertech – When bp 1.1 final is released I will reinstall it on my system and go to town trying to figure it all out.
Who knows, maybe Andy or someone will chime in someday and give us an example as to how to apply user filters to activity streams and listings.
I’ve still got to guess that they already have something even better up their sleeves. With automatic behind buddypress, one has to figure that they plan on adding it to wordpress.com someday, which would require this type of functionality.

ParticipantWordPress blog since 2006, bbPress forum added in 2008, and now a BuddyPress community. To start with we’re only using extended profiles and private messaging, but will layer in additional features over time.
Very grateful for the powerful platform that Andy and team have created, and for the great support offered by Burt, JJJ, Jeff and all the others on the forum.

Look through the right column. It should have all the loops you need to construct your desired listings.

ParticipantAs your issue seems to be with your provider, and not with BuddyPress itself, I’m going to set this thread to resolved.
By the way, if you are using a BuddyPress installing script and not using WPMU’s autoinstaller or simply doing a manual install yourself, you can run into a lot of issues.

InactiveNow I’ve installed everything again on another account (same provider but other server) and there everything works fine. So it seems to be a question of which provider you have.
And you are right, there aren’t any buddypress tables at all…I wonder why.
September 9, 2009 at 3:10 pm #52220Jeff Sayre
ParticipantIn theory you should be able to upgrade from RC1 to 1.0.3 without a problem. What truly matters is the integrity of your database. That being said, when I have not upgraded a WP site for a long time, I prefer to upgrade in several increments.
But if you follow this course, you should be okay (of course, there are no guarantees):
- backup your database–the most crucial step
- deactivate any BuddyPress-specific plugins in WPMU’s back end
- then deactivate BuddyPress itself
- delete the buddypress directory
- download BP version 1.0.3
- follow the instructions in BP’s readme.txt file
- reactivate BP sitewide
Then you will most likely have to change your theme files to get them to work.
If all goes terribly wrong, you can always redownload the old tagged version 1.0-RC1 of BP from here, restore your DB from your backup, and then reinstall and reactivate the old version.
Of course, before deleting your current version of BP, it is probably a good idea to back that up as well. That way, if something goes awry and you need to revert, you know you have the exact same files you used before.
Also, make sure that you have backup copies of your custom theme files as well.

ParticipantJeff, it sounds as if I might be better off keeping the platform the way that it is. But, unfortunately, I do not see that as being possible. I am wondering if I just remove the BP all together and then add the BP plugin, if it would be better. Then I could restructure from there. The themes and all would be simple to rework and design out the way that we want them. As for the member side of it, we can have all the members redo their profiles in the member section, which might not be a bad thing.
I am not sure if this will have a bearing on it, but from what my BP-Core file shows, this is the version that I have: define( ‘BP_CORE_VERSION’, ‘1.0-RC1’ );
Either way, it sounds like many steps have changed. Let me know what you think of the change up above if you think it would be the easier route. Otherwise, I might have to hire someone that can redo it all and just send me the files back.

ParticipantWe changed them on our site. Basically you go into the plugins/buddypress/bp-languages folder and get the BuddyPress.mo file. Then use a program called Poedit (you can search the web for this), and use it open the BuddyPress.mo file. You can then change the language in that program. When you save the file with a name, say TEMP and it will also save a TEMP.po file. Put that back into the bp-languages folder. Then add a new bp-custom.php file into your plugins folder and put this code in it:
define( ‘BPLANG’, ‘TEMP’ );
if ( file_exists( BP_PLUGIN_DIR . ‘/bp-languages/buddypress-‘ . BPLANG . ‘.mo’ ) ) {
load_textdomain( ‘buddypress’, BP_PLUGIN_DIR . ‘/bp-languages/buddypress-‘ . BPLANG . ‘.mo’ );
}
Change the name TEMP in the above code to whatever you called the po file.
That should do it.

ParticipantThat is strange behavior. If BuddyPress installed properly, there should be at least one profile field called “Full Name” located in a field group called “Basic”.
Can you verify that the BuddyPress xprofile tables exist in your database’s backend? Have you checked the PHP and MySQL error logs to see if there is any useful information?
There should be 19 total BuddyPress tables in your MySQL DB–this does not include any WPMU tables. Out of those 19, four of them are for profile data. Each of the profile tables has the word “xprofile” in the table name.

KeymasterAs I read your post, you have an old forum you want “into” BuddyPress. BP or WordPress MU aren’t forums. BuddyPress’ forum components are provided by BBPress.
If you want to import things differently, you need to write your post in more detail and even then I doubt there’s any easy solution

KeymasterDiego, just read your trac ticket and I think I understand what you’re saying now.
You’re saying that there’s no link to the comment author in your BP forum’s post.
You should definitely describe the issue in detail next time.
Disregard what I’ve written previously.

Re-download BP 1.0.3 and make sure your BP files match up, particularly your “bp-themes/bpmember” folder.

That isn’t ready for primetime yet; wait a couple of weeks for the release of BuddyPress 1.1 and you’ll get all the new features!
