I am not 100% sure that the download offers the home theme – yet.

Go to the Site Admin menu, pick Themes and make sure the BP theme is the only one enabled. Then users can’t change themes.

Any plugin you put in the mu-plugins folder does NOT show up on the Plugins menu. That is for plugins that are in the plugins folder. So no, you won’t see any BP related plugins there to to turn them off and on, because in the mu-plugins folder, plugins are always ON.

If you really want to understand how WPMU works, to take full advantge of what it can do and get a feel for what you’re in for, check out http://wpmututorials.com , or sign up at wordpress.com to check out the user’s perspective & compare it to testbp.org.

    In reply to: BuddyPress Codex?

nevermind, I found the Template Tags section in the codex but it’s empty. Is this going to be complete once the first version is launched?

Andy has tossed around a few ideas about having the solution you are looking at as an option. There is a thread in these forums that is pretty recent.

I get how the buddpress homepage is coming along with groups, recent posts, etc… It’s very nice! Do you know when approximatley you’ll have a search? In addition, do you happen to know what the intentions are for virally spreading a buddypress websites existence?

Take yammer.com for instance; supposedly they had something like 60,000 sign-ups in a couple of weeks??? I have a site thats up and some people join every once in a while, however it seems like something is missing. Some sort of linkage, maybe a giant flaw in my business model?

Do you think a twitter type plugin will help? Or do you have something in mind that you are working on, or some type of advise? Much appreciated for your time…

Plus, I would like to take the time to formally thank you, all contributors and automattic for creating what I believe will help my website tremendously. Thanks again for your time.

I have my site set to a regular home page, however I set my profile page under http://mysite.com/members

I do not want to use my homepage as the (buddypress homepage) member page, I want to use the member page, however, it is set as a buddypress profile page. I want that page to be the buddypress home page. However, there is not an option to change it under the profile admin somehow the design function is disabled. What are my solutions??? Thanks

Thats fantastic news! I’ve really “REALLY” been wanting to use BuddyPress on the MU project I’m building but really “REALLY” been put off by the multiple sub-domain issue. I’ll be looking forward to seeing this in action! :-)

Thanks Andy! We’ll be looking at the forum and other BP parts later. By then you may have released the first stable version… but good to know that the integration with BBPress is taking shape.

I’ve integrated bbPress with WPMU to share user logins (couldn’t get cookies to work unfortunately) and was preparing to launch them both this week. Should I hold off on launching bbPress until you’ve integrated it more fully, or would I be okay using the system as I have it now and simply adding the BuddyPress forum functionality down the road.

    Thanks!

Thanks for posting about this. I was going to try that plugin soon, but will wait for a fix before I give it a go.

Talked with Donncha about this. A check needs to be added to check if the blog_id = tag_blog_id and if so, return from the function. This will stop the infinite loop.

Looks really great! Fantastic to see real world examples of BuddyPress in use.

Hopefully you’ll be able to add more features soon once their a bit further along. Sam Bauers and I worked out a way of integrating BBPress with BuddyPress, without integrating them completely. That way you can keep BBPress up to date within your installation. I’ll be adding that in soon.

Set the main blog to use the ‘home’ theme and don’t assign or have or have available the ‘buddypress’ theme for anyone.. it’ll automatically be used for profiles.

@owe, BuddyPress only works with WP Mu. If you want to use the normal WP, then you’re better off to find some plugins that will give you the functionality you want. There is an avatar plugin for WP as well as a private messaging one. There may be a friends one too, I can’t remember. Just look through the WP Codex Plugin directory.

@nolageek the external site integration is a plugin we’ve developed to allow entering and checking the blog RSS and selecting an avatar image for the blog. Then we aggregate the external content using SimplePie RSS. SimplePie makes this very easy. On the Latest Posts page for the network blogs, we use the multifeed aggreagation feature of SimplePie. Just throw an array of RSS feeds at it and it comes back with the content. SimplePie uses disk caching so it’s pretty zippy once the feeds are loaded.

    Thanks for the feedback.

It seems I am having the same problem. I am testing Buddypress for a new project of mine here: http://demockeracy.in/. When I am logged into my profile (http://demockerat.demockeracy.in/) and type something into the Wire box and say ‘Post’, the page refreshes, but the Wire does not get updated. It just says ‘There are currently no wire posts.’

The Activity feed is working fine for me, though.

Excellent. Is the external site integration a plugin or something custom y’all cooked up? I was just thinking that’d be a great idea.

I’m confused. That site looks like an elgg site. Is there a way to private message on here? I’d like to ask you some questions. I’m torn between WordPress MU/Buddypress and Elgg.

yes, i tried a fresh reinstall, with still no luck. the buddypress user home base does not seem to be creating users. i have no idea why the subdomain lookup would be so slow.

Could you create accounts in MU before you added Buddypress?
