In reply to: How to Modify Admin Bar + activation email not going
@mercime
Participanthow to modify the admin bar
@ebizdude That’s too wide an area to cover. What specifically do you want to change in the admin bar?
– If it’s WordPress-related, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
– If it’s related to BuddyPress links to profile menus https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-custom-profile-menu/also when people registerting the activation email is not coming. how does one recticfy that
You have to find out through some tests whether email is not being sent from your installation or whether the email just goes to user’s spam folder.

Participant@sienteastu You have the lastest WP/BP versions on a new or upgraded multisite installation? Did you by any chance, added ENABLE_MULTIBLOG to your wp-config.php file? Also, check out https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4252

Participant@garrickbs In upcoming BuddyPress 1.7, theme compatibility is made easy in addition to other new features http://wpmu.org/7-exciting-new-features-in-buddypress-1-7/
If you have a new installation, I suggest setting up WP 3.5.1 with download BP 1.7 beta 1 . If you want forums, download bbPress beta 2. Activate your theme and check it out.

ModeratorThere is no such function.
There is a hook – as Paul showed you.
Use that hook to write your own function.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/do_actionPut the function in a plugin or bp-custom.php

Tammie Lister
ModeratorUnless I am mistaken iFeature 5 isn’t an out of the box theme for BuddyPress? Now, if you are using the beta BuddyPress 1.7 this won’t be an issue but if you are using anything before 1.7 (beta) then you either need to use the template pack or a BuddyPress compatible theme.

Participantokay i think i actually figured out my problem at least which seems to be a bug actually. Not sure if its related to this one that was also recently reported:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4827
this bug is actually with 1.6.4 haven’t yet been able to test with 1.7 what happens is that if you create a site using network admin and do not set the tittle attribute it never gets added to the directory if someone could tell me if this is not related to that other bug i will attempt to make a trac ticket for it. thanks!

Participant@hnla You hit the nail on the head! I commented out the piece of CSS that you brought forward. So far I don’t see any issues, but I’ll keep my eyes open for them. This piece of code must be for the clearing of a float. Now the posts look just how BuddyPress is supposed to look: http://www.gumpolen.com/blog/category/city-desk/
/*}
div.post .entry{
clear: both;
}*/
After I saved my changes, “Control F5” couldn’t get them to show in Chrome. I had go to command prompt and use “ipconfig/flushdns” and then my changes showed. Chrome always seems to do this. A year ago I didn’t realize this, and I would simply think that I wasn’t doing something correctly and then I would go on to something else. I wasted hours of coding time, thinking that I was doing it wrong, and here it was just that Chrome doesn’t refresh correctly. At least not on the computer I use.
Thanks for your help!
Kevin

ParticipantPerhaps this extra space in my thread is a product of the BP Columns child theme that I have installed on BuddyPress
Well test that then, drop back to bp default theme!
I’m afraid that if people wish different styling then they need to get familiar with the code to perform that, a provided theme can only be a best fit to suit many, if you start to adjust that base theme then you risk doing something others may not like.
fwiw it is the bp columns custom styling causing this perceived problem:
div.post .entry {
    clear: both;
}
Remove that line and the post entry will align to the right of the avatar and if allowed the text will wrap, however the manner in which things have been written means this will cause other styling issues that would have to be addressed.February 15, 2013 at 3:10 pm #153115In reply to: customize profile navigations

ParticipantI’m looking into this too. I think the problem is that bbpress is adding that forum tab and not buddypress. Did you figure it out?
Otherwise this is a good reference.

ParticipantThanks for the responses,
I have just disabled discussion forums in buddypress and group forums also are now working.
The bit I don’t get from that is, you are surely supposed to have this feature enabled so that your installation allows the forums to co-exist? As the line states: ‘Site-wide and Group forums allow for focused, bulletin-board style conversations.’ Are we therefore not just simply masking a deeper routed issue, or is this normal practice? One I’ve certainly never come across before.
I’m also failing to see public group forums within the set page /group-forums/ Instead, group forums are showing up just fine on and just below my sitewide forum page categories. (This is perhaps just another issue I should really address in another post, after a little more research) – Not send this thread off on a different tangent. Mentioned it here just in case it is a related issue.

ParticipantI would get used to using web developer tools such as firebug if building/supporting client sites.
Why are you setting a new positioning context on item-body ‘relative’ is there a reason? never set the position property unless there is a very good reason. As you have not cleared your floats in the #object-nav group item-body is unaware of the element group, as you have set a new stacking context by setting ‘pos: relative’ you effectively  mask out the object nav.
Either contain your floats for the object nav or lose the position on #item-body ( that could have consequences if child elements need that context for offset positioning)
This is really a third party theme issue and a CSS-P one rather than a BP issue.

ParticipantYes I have solved it. Â I still had discussion forums still enabled in buddypress. Â If you uncheck that option the problem with topics in bbpress group forums was gone.
