In reply to: how to make forum groups
@mercime
Participant@plugonline just so that we’re on the same page, do you have a new installation?
– If so, did you follow the updated instructions at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
– Did you change to the BP default theme just to check if you can create a post and select the group forum?February 19, 2013 at 4:46 am #153392In reply to: Forums Directory Not Showing Up
@mercime
Participant@homeschoolmommy For your new installation, please follow instructions for installing forums at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

Asynaptic
Participant“But if the project I am building requires social and the only solution is Buddypress and it does not support even basic SEO…”
You have it reversed. It is Yoast’s plugin that doesn’t support BP. It is the plugin developer’s responsibility to make their code compatible. The best idea is to contact Yoast (Joost). He’s a very hands on guy and would respond to an inquiry like this either via email or on the WP SEO support forum.

ParticipantHELP!
Could this all be an issue with the way I installed my network?………….
I have noticed further issues with buddypress & bbpress, sign up not performing or functioning, no bbpress mails being sent and the complete inability to edit etc ‘any sitewide forums. There may be more issues I have just not checked.
I installed network under sub-directories ‘then’ added domain mapping!
Should I have in fact installed the network sites via sub domains and then added domain mapping?
ie. BuddyPress does not work on installations where you give WordPress its own directory ?
Could this be my issue?

@mercime
Participant@manojhl123 could you be more specific about what topic info? Group Forums or Sitewide Forums? bbPress has topics widget you can add to sidebar. WordPress/BuddyPress/bbPress versions?

You may get a fair bit of it, search the forum for topics on prevention.
February 18, 2013 at 3:40 am #153320In reply to: BuddyPress Compatible
@mercime
Participant@patrykos360 Deleted some elements and divs – groups/index.php which is for the Groups Directory Page http://pastebin.com/sU6CXdJN
If that doesn’t work, then as Hugo mentioned above you should also consider contacting theme author and point to the instructions I posted in other site. Won’t blame you if you ditched BuddyPress but I don’t see you as one who quits 🙂
Sidenote: BP 1.7 beta renders BP templates similar to how bbPress does it. Curious, have you checked if forum topics are duplicated if you use Continuum as well?

ParticipantHI @mercime, thank you for your reply.
The set up is as follows;
New install: WordPress 3.5.1 MU joint Network with x7 Mapped domainsNew install: Buddypress 1.6.4 Running all sites on Dynamix WP/BP theme
New install: BBPress 2.2.4 With Network & Group forums configured.
Buddypress has been installed ‘without’ the discussion forums tab enabled.
<code>define( ‘BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG’, true );</code> Is located in wp-config.
Set up for stewide & group forums from: https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ followed to the last note.
After further examination, it appears that I can edit group forums with no issues whatsoever, it is the sitewide forums that have the blocked actions, I literally can’t do anything with them. Page just refreshes.
Tried disabling all network enabled plugins which are; WP SEO (Yoast), WPMU Domain Mapping, Ultimate coming soon page & Join my multisite, to no avail.
It has me well and truly stumped ! The site is locked down under maintenance at the moment, but I’m happy to PM access to any moderator here if they felt it may help to see the issue first hand.
Regards,

@mercime
Participant@dasped First, glad you resolved the first issue pm your own 🙂
Second, by default you should as keymaster and even moderator, edit, close, stick, merge, trash or spam forum posts.
– Which kind of forum are you encountering the problem in? Group or Sitewide Forums?
– Did you follow the updated instructions for setting up Group/Sitewide Forums at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/February 18, 2013 at 12:23 am #153308In reply to: [Resolved] I really need help with forums

ParticipantFor eample make the listing of the forums use another font, size and color?
@royh32 this is more of a CSS for bbPress forums issue. bbPress does not add any font-family styles so your forum inherits the font-family, size and color used in your theme. If you still want your forums to use another font-family, font-size or color you can add something like the following at the bottom of your theme’s style.css file:`#bbpress {
color: #000;
font-family: ‘Times Roman’, Times, serif;
font-size: 14px;
}`
adjust to taste.February 17, 2013 at 10:30 pm #153306In reply to: How do I get Yoast SEO to work with Buddypress

ParticipantI posted in his forum for the plugin on wordpress.org. That is where they tell you to ask for support. https://yoast.com/contact/
Posted something days ago off another post that had been there for a while. Created a new post today.
I was hoping there would be some Buddypress pros here that would maybe know the answer to this. I am completely new to BP and only been working with WordPress for about a year. Although been in tech online for sometime. But I am no developer for sure. But a good IM and web strategy guy.,

ParticipantI can confirm that this issue was SQL related, A fresh install on clean database resolved the matter.
Just out of curiosity (I have posted on BBPress support) and on the off chance someone may have had the same/similar issue over this neck of the woods. Once a forum/group forum post is created, I’ as keymaster cannot, edit,close, stick, merge, trash or spam them? The page simply refreshes with no action taking place.
Fingers crossed, someone, somewhere has had and indeed resolved the matter.

February 16, 2013 at 9:12 pm #153223In reply to: How to Modify Admin Bar + activation email not going
@mercime
Participanthow to modify the admin bar
@ebizdude That’s too wide an area to cover. What specifically do you want to change in the admin bar?
– If it’s WordPress-related, please post at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
– If it’s related to BuddyPress links to profile menus https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-custom-profile-menu/also when people registerting the activation email is not coming. how does one recticfy that
You have to find out through some tests whether email is not being sent from your installation or whether the email just goes to user’s spam folder.

ParticipantThanks both. @r-a-y – any pointers on how I’d go about writing that small plugin?
February 16, 2013 at 7:25 pm #153214In reply to: Allow only group admins to create new forum topics
r-a-y
KeymasterI don’t think this is possible by default.
You’ll probably have to either:
* Write a small plugin to disable the forum post form for regular group members; or:
* Modify the bbPress post form template and do your checks in there.February 16, 2013 at 7:23 pm #153213In reply to: [Resolved] I really need help with forums

ModeratorI would recommend looking for a possible solution on the BBpress site as buddypress uses it now.

ParticipantThanks for the quick reply and link! I’ve actually poured over the BP security plugins, but again, if you or someone else on the forum had a good “security plugin package” to recommend, that may be better than just installing many that may interfere with each other. I did read through the WordPress link that you sent and that was helpful.
Here are the plugins I have activated so far: Timed auto logout, email address encoder, BP security check and password rules.
Right now I am not having problems because my site is not live yet. Thanks.

Participant@garrickbs In upcoming BuddyPress 1.7, theme compatibility is made easy in addition to other new features http://wpmu.org/7-exciting-new-features-in-buddypress-1-7/
If you have a new installation, I suggest setting up WP 3.5.1 with download BP 1.7 beta 1 . If you want forums, download bbPress beta 2. Activate your theme and check it out.
