In reply to: Update time shows 8 hours ago on new posts
JimmyGibbs
ParticipantHey, thanks for the reply, I did try changing the time zone, it didn’t work and I don’t think it has to do with this because its counting from the moment a post is made like this “5 minutes ago”, like in this forum, except it starts counting from 8 hours, so if I made a post now it will show that this post was made “8 hours ago”, 1 hour later it will show “9 hours ago”
Thanks 🙂

Participant@kizzywizzy, BP 1.6.2 use wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js?ver=1.8.3
@gorod, it seems that you installed bbpress as standalone forum plugin instead of using Group Forums. Anyway, both can be used, the only thing to take care of, is the forum base name. BP Group Forum use “forums” by priority, even if you use bbPress as plugin. So if you use bbpress, you have to rename the forum base name to something other as “forums”. See “forums > settings” to change this.
Here’s a video for more explanation: http://labzip.com/the-definitive-guide-to-buddypress-bbpress-configuration/
and something older, but good to understand on how all this works, on the codex: https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums-v1-5/January 4, 2013 at 5:57 pm #149690ProgramerJutsu

Or until i create my own forum platform. hahaJanuary 4, 2013 at 5:50 pm #149687ProgramerJutsu

@mercime
Participant@sureshkutti Did you go through the steps posted here? https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
If not, how did you install your group forums and your sitewide forums? Which did you set up first? What’s the slug/URL of your Group forums? What’s the slug/URL of your Sitewide forums?
As for the Anonymous posting you set up in Sitewide Forums, best place to troubleshoot that would be at https://bbpress.org/support/

ParticipantHello Hugo,
The BP-centric plugins installed are “BuddyPress Registration Options” and “BuddyPress Login Redirect”. Might they be disallowing public access to the forums/groups? How to disable the disallowing feature?

ParticipantThis is not default behaviour, you must have third party plugins at work, as I can’t see any groups listing. If you have added plugins you need to be aware of how they will affect your site, if you haven’t got plugins doing a walled garden sort of privacy management then you have something odd going on.

ParticipantYou trouble shoot ‘Intenal Server Error’ messages as the phrase suggests at the server level, you look through your error.logs for some clue as to what was/is happening

ParticipantSorry to bump up this thread, but I would like advice from the BP gurus on accessing forum posts without the need to log into the site with a username/password. Currently, whenever the URL of a forum post is given in any public site such as Twitter, you are redirected to the log in / account-creation page. For example, here is an example of a forum post that a user wanted to provide URL of, but couldn’t:

ParticipantSurely… there must be some kind of fix for this. I’ve tried everything – created new pages, reinstalled etc etc. How could I troubleshoot this otherwise? Thx

ModeratorI just responded to your other post so that post now makes a little more sense 🙂 I’d first say no need to do multiple posts – having one thread where people can look and help you is far easier for all involved. So, you want to show your forum latest entries on your front page or you want your forum to be your front page? I ask as the two things require different things.

ModeratorIt’s a little hard to know what you want / are aiming for as you seem to have something in mind but aren’t providing a link or exact question. If you can describe what you are trying to do and even link to what you want or have achieved – it’s far easier to help you. Many on here would love to help but can’t without knowing more information.

Participantwhat worked for me was to copy the source code of my forum page and slap in into the home page
@harvey1233 If you want your forum index page as your home page:
1. Create a new empty Page named “Blog” or “News” or whatever you want to represent as the list of new Posts in your site.
2. Go to wp-admin – Settings > Reading – Front Page Displays > Choose Static Page.
3. For Front Page – select the name of your Forums page
4. For Posts Page – select the name you set in #1 above.
5. Click on “Save Changes” button on the same panel. -
