    Hi thank you for this.

When I click on the first link (the codex) I get a 500 error.

The buddypress profile menu looks very promising. I will be installing that.

The other question I had is if there is a search function for the FAQ/Support? I can’t find one.

    Thank you again.

I just asked in the SocialAuth plugin forum if they can make it compatible with Multisite and BuddyPres.

Both projects are supported by respective plugin devs. Whether the plugin is released for free or not, or changed mind to do so is not relevant to this discussion. Please post at respective plugins’ forums for more information.

@monkfish13 For BP Album, the plugin devs are working on BP Media http://code.google.com/p/buddypress-media/ Check out the system requirements and read documentation before installing in test installation/server first. Having said that, I may be wrong but I gathered that BP Album is still good for current BP/WP.

As for BP Gallery, the plugin has always been updated to latest BP/WP versions http://buddydev.com/plugins/bp-gallery/ Been using it since Feb 2010 circa BP 1.2 for different sites.

@niccola Which forum were you trying to activate/install? BP Codex/Documentation is your friend https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

    @mercime,

Thanks for your input – i have done a bit more investigating, but can;t seem to find any information on my question.

Infact, it appears that all the plugins that were developed for uploading images to buddypress have been pretty dormant for the last 2 years.

Both BP Album and BP-Gallery don’t appear to have been updated in the past 12 months from what I can see.

Are these plugins still current and secure to use ?

It does appear a bit strange to me that this functionality isn’t included with Buddypress, considering that sharing images is such a key part of building a social network.

Are there any plans to integrate such functionality in the future ?

does this migration mean I’ll be moving my group forums to bbpress 2.0 or is it just a way to setup site wide forums?

@daneglerum The link is working for me. Try to access via another browser perhaps? Or clear browser cache…

The BP Group Forums are being merged into the bbPress plugin (Sitewide Forums) https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3598 So at this point, you would be well-advised to start with Sitewide Forums and follow instructions in link posted earlier.

In all cases install WP  – ensure WP is running properly; Install BP activate bp-default theme – check BP is running properly, only after those two steps should you proceed to activating a child theme or custom theme. If that theme does not work as expected / required then you must take it to the theme author in the first instance, this help forum can’t really support custom themes it’s here to support BP core and the default theme.

However things will get easier soon when 1.7 is released which will work far better with any theme chosen.

I got the same problem. I’m using a buddypress child friendly theme all works except for the forum page which turn totally white. What can I do?

@mercime thanks for that. Stupid question but does this migration mean I’ll be moving my group forums to bbpress 2.0 or is it just a way to setup site wide forums?

ps. the link isn’t working for me.

There’s a premium facebook plugin which works with BP and mulitiste for sites I’ve handled http://buddydev.com/plugins/buddypress-facebook-connect-plus/

Having said that, https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/socialauth-wp/ looks good as I see that the plugin dev is active in supporting the plugin. I don’t think the plugin provides support for BP as the plugin dev would have added the BuddyPress to the plugin tags. Best place to ask is at plugin’s forums https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/socialauth-wp

You could use bbPress plugin’s innate function to move topics to the appropriate forum  if you convert Group Forums to the bbPress plugin forums. If you’d like to give it a try, back up database and server files, then see how to do it https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/

The problem is that I don’t want a user to be able to join any network they want.

They can’t if the respective site admins do not allow open registration or if the site is set up for invitation-only membership. The user-base in NOT shared between sites for that plugin by default.

is there a way for a person to set their avatar once on one network and not have to set it again when they become a user on the other network?

Since the userbase is per site only, i.e., not shared across the network as I mentioned above, then by default no, the user has to upload avatar again in the next site.

Having said that, there may be ways around it. The best place to ask is at the plugin dev’s forums as @sbrajesh knows his code better than anybody else 🙂

    Thanks @aronprins

I’ve tried that plugin but did not have any luck.

I’m starting to wonder if group forums were the best architectural decision for my community. I like the ability to segregate conversations by group and to have private groups and forums but perhaps there is too much segregation. The decision for buddypress.org to move away from group based forums factors into my thinking too.

I’ll do some more reading on how sitewide forums can be used. It seems like this implementation of bbpress is a bit more flexible.

    Dane,
Thanks for your thorough readthrough of the forums and knowing what to put in you posts ;). Welcome to BuddyPress!

Unfortunatly this is currently not possible. To my knowledge the people of bbPress and BuddyPress ( a select few awesome peeps ) are making bbPress(.org) more compatible with BuddyPress which should enhance it’s features ( if you ask me… ).

    Checkout this plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-topic-mover/

    Cheers, Aron

Check if BP Album has shortcode/s you can insert into posts so whatever you uploaded in Album can be used in your post. The premium BP Gallery plugin has this feature for albums or single image shortcode. It’s possible that the beta BP Media plugin has the same feature as well.

Ah, right that’s a plugin – BP album would put them not in a central point. That’s the bit I was saying if you are using a plugin it would change. I’m not sure of the settings but perhaps BP album has one to use the ‘media gallery’? It may also be as it’s setting up ‘personal’ galleries. You’d not be able to see another users.

As BuddyPress is just a plugin that sits on WordPress it shares the same media gallery as that. Now, perhaps you want more functionality than that?

Unless i am missing something it would appear not to work in that fashion.

If, as an author, I upload image to a blog post, then go to my buddypress profile page to access my album ( using BP-album plugin ) – the images I upload to the blog post don’t appear in the profile album.

The same is true vice versa – images uploaded to the BP gallery via a users profile, are saved in a different location, as it asks you to make the folder writable on installation.

So is there a plugin that correlates the two so they work in unison?

Same point to be reiterated as that which @mercime  mentioned above, is this issue happening with the BP-Deafult theme?

First thing that must be done when issues arise is revert to the default BP theme , if then the issue clears up you have an problem with your custom theme – custom themes are not necessarily a concern of this help forum though as this forums purpose is to provide help/guidance with the BP core application and it’s default theme.

In the first instance issues with custom themes must be taken to the theme author or that themes forum  – if one exists.

If, however, an issue persists then the next step is to disable the fifty nine plugins that are running as any one of those ‘May’ be causing a problem and that needs to be confirmed one way or another by the user – we can’t do that for them.

If having run through those steps an issue persists then it may well be a BP issue that needs attention.

So you’re using the plugin BuddyPress Moderation? https://buddypress.org/support/forum/plugin-forums/bp-moderation/ I ask because you’ve put this in installing BuddyPress but think perhaps this may be to do with the plugin.

Plugin forums have been removed. This is no longer a place for support for third party plugins. legacy forums can be found on the front support page.

This issue with using plugins to create such a specific site as you wish is that you are placing bets on if a plugin will continue to work or be supported. This is why I suggest you may need coding skills.

@ @modemlooper – yes, i’m aware of that, but that’s the point. My skills aren’t advanced, I’m rather a standard user who usually knows how to use WordPress’ resources to make things right. But to Buddypress I’m pretty new so I’m not really sure If i’ll be able to find enough resources here to accomplish what I had in mind. What’s more I’m a poor student so I’m also not really into buying premium things 🙂

I’m doing my graduation project which partly needs this kind of review site.

@mgkoller – I know there are some resources, but I was actually asking and counting for Buddypress’ users experience, for some specific plugins, maybe someone tried them, did have similar site with features that I mention etc. Because, as a new user I’m just a bit lost.

And yes, I stumbled upon some premium solutions, but that’s just won’t do. I need something free 🙂

Btw, Support Forums seem to be pretty messed up, especially permalinks. Can’t find Rating Widget you mentioned first..

    Good spots @rogercoathup and @hnla

Tagged their forum posts “modlook” in WP forums. We could use that “modlook” tag here at BP forums and at bbPress forums 🙂

EDIT – WP moderators have deleted the two posts.
