ParticipantYou will need to create a tab:
http://wordpress.stackexchange.com/questions/6719/buddypress-adding-a-new-tab-in-groupsAnd then you will need to create an input field to populate the tab:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-add-fields-to-group-creation-with-group-extension-api-please-read/Note that I have never done this, but hopefully those links will point you in the right direction.

If you want something like this http://vdoop.com, then have a look at this https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-i-customize-the-first-page. @mercime helped us very much.November 21, 2012 at 10:39 pm #145468modemlooper
ModeratorIts not really a membership plugin. It turns your site into a social network where users can sign up get profiles, groups and discussion forums. There are many plugins that add additonal features.

Shaun McMillan
ParticipantMy activity stream isn’t including all the activity on http://www.Drawalot.com. I’ve created both custom posts and regular posts but neither are showing up in the stream. I turned off all the other plugins and switched back to the default buddypress theme but the actity still does’t show up.
I know I should probably make a separate forum topic, but somehow that feature has disappeared for me on this site. I can’t even make status updates. What’s up with buddypress.org?
November 20, 2012 at 9:57 pm #145428dallasclounch
ParticipantYes, topics made for the sitewide forums are not showing under the forums tab in the members section.
Why not? I was able to make it show up in the normal activity.. but when I got to forums tab it just says…
Viewing topic 1 (of 1 total) but there is nothing to view!?

November 20, 2012 at 6:24 pm #145412In reply to: How to make Buddy Press Compatible with Theme
@mercime
Participant@misterhill You only need to create two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php to make your theme compatible with BP.
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your vagenta theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your vagenta theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
A. COPY your theme’s header.php and Save As > header-buddypress.php
Open up header-buddypress.php and at the BOTTOM of the file, below other code contained within, add this:
``November 20, 2012 at 5:27 pm #145409@mercime
ParticipantAdd the following to your theme’s stylesheet:
`#forums-dir-list table.forum {
margin: 10px 0 30px;
}`November 20, 2012 at 10:10 am #145394In reply to: Buddypress pages suddenly blanko
gar976
ParticipantI have a custom menu but created long ago. In buddypress settings the component directories are set to active pages for activity streams, discussion forums, user groups and members.
Problem extends beyond this to main buddypress menu at top right of screen where profile edit etc are all blank too (not 404 page not found though). I have an active members widget in a sidebar which does actually work so i agree that it seems like a links issue – but the correct page URL displays when links are clicked.

SpectatorOh and another thing…
“numerous people have come into the forums and demanded change, talked about how much they dislike everything, and “if only we’d do X” that person would finally be able to do Y and Z, and it’s totally “the core team” that are holding them back.
That’s crap.”
No, it’s not crap, it’s called not listening to the community.
November 20, 2012 at 3:30 am #145370EthanVan
Spectator“You’re an editor on the codex; if you want to edit, no one is stopping you. If you want to improve the organization of the pages and content, great — do it!”
I’m not seeing how I can reorganize the codex if I can’t even “create new topic” (which should actually say create new page, entry or post). All I can do is edit what is there. Go to the buddybar and click create new topic ANYWHERE in this site and you get “page not found”. If that’s the wrong link then where’s the right one?
I was thinking about automation actually and that’s why I want a clean slate but you are so high and mighty that you don’t even realize the codex editing structuring functionality is non-existant to my user access level. It’s basically a glorified forum to me. So you explain to me mr high and mighty @johnjamesjacoby where these alleged tools of creation and organization are. Where are they John?

KeymasterThrough-out BuddyPress’s life (since 2007) numerous people have come into the forums and demanded change, talked about how much they dislike everything, and “if only we’d do X” that person would finally be able to do Y and Z, and it’s totally “the core team” that are holding them back.
That’s crap.
You’re an editor on the codex; if you want to edit, no one is stopping you. If you want to improve the organization of the pages and content, great — do it!
Instead, you want a “clean slate” to work on indefinitely until you feel a brand new codex is ready to ship? I’m afraid to ask how long you realistically think it will take to document 5 years worth of 100k lines of code, and why you think doing something manually is more effective than writing software to automate the process — see PHP Documenter?
Your logic, and approach, are flawed.
I just want people to share their experiences and knowledge, and that’s what the codex allows. Any time or work anyone is willing to put in above and beyond that is awesome, but we need less ideas, and more execution.
—-
What I won’t tolerate is the irony of you coming into our support forums, being disrespectful, then *demanding* respect because you have an idea about doing something you haven’t actually done yet. Note: since the beginning of the BuddyPress Codex, you’ve modified 1 page, 11 times, in the past 2 days. Total, we have 155 pages, and 3,040 total page revisions. Your contributions amount to 0.3% of total changes.
How you think you’re the guy to jump in and fix all our problems, is confusing to me. The only way to clarify this confusion, is to actually put some time into the codex!
Look… I’ll respect you no matter what you do, but I won’t trust your leadership until you treat other members of this site with with the respect they’ve earned and deserve… then you can have the keys to the codex after you start acting out your good intentions.
Until then, any contributions you give are appreciated, and will be well received. I’m sure you’re willing, and able, now all you have to do is execute.

@mercime
ParticipantDelete the bb-config.php that was automatically created at the root of your WP install (where you find the wp-config.php file) when you installed Group Forums and that’s it.

Otherwise, create a topic and be specific about what you need answered.
November 19, 2012 at 11:03 pm #145352John James Jacoby
KeymasterA few things:
Manually writing documentation about code, is an infinite loop, where no one is satisfied. Code changes quickly, line numbers change, hooks change, things get deprecated, and one becomes a bottle neck for the other.
If you want to write pages on the codex, have at it. The taxonomies can change, we can add new ones, remove ones that aren’t helpful, whatever we want. Ultimately, I picked a few taxonomies that seemed to fit the project at the time, just to have *something* since before, we literally had nothing at all.
Regarding setting up a forum for the codex we have one: https://codex.buddypress.org/team/
Regarding having longer, slower release cycles, it’s not going to happen. If anything, they’ll get smaller and faster, with less code changing more frequently.
Releases shouldn’t be held because of out-of-date documentation, and the documentation shouldn’t wait until the release. It’s a wiki for a reason, and if you’re passionate about doing the documentation labor, you’re free and able to do it. If it’s not satisfying or rewarding for you, no one expects for you to do it. Obviously, we want to create an environment that’s fun to work in, and it’s my responsibility to make sure that happens.
Regarding feeling dismissed, try to keep the negative emotions out of this. No one here wants anyone to feel bad, and the people that do work themselves out. Reread for tone and clarity, and understand that we’re all passionate, and just want to do good things together.
Codex contributors are not more or less important than anyone else, but the BuddyPress Core team is going to make the decisions about code changes and release cycles, and that won’t likely ever change.
The fact is, that documenting an open-source project is neither glamorous nor sexy, an it’s easy to feel like you’re efforts are not appreciated. That last part’s not true, but since there’s no obvious or advertised audit trail, and no reward system in place, people working on the codex are often separated and in the dark about what’s going on around them.
If you want to keep up, you just have to try harder; no one is going to slow down for anyone else. As an example, I’m often in the dark about what’s going on in WordPress core, so I spend an extra 2 hours every night reading through the changelog, testing BuddyPress against WordPress trunk, and generally just spend more time doing more labor. It sucks, but I can’t ask them to slow down production and put their initiatives on hold.
It’s ironic y’all want to move towards the way the WordPress codex; many of their documenters strongly dislike Mediawiki for this purpose, and want to move towards a WordPress based approach like we have here.
Anyways, this is all good and healthy debate, but in the end it comes down to earning the right to have your opinion carry more weight than someone else’s, the old “meritocracy” approach. “Assigning a project manager” isn’t how this works. It’s an open system where everyone volunteers their efforts, and if you volunteer a higher quality of work more efficiently, you win the game and get to start making decisions.
Regarding having ducks in rows, ducks organize themselves into the pattern that suits them best at the time. It’s great to want to lead the pack, but you don’t self-appoint in an established and mature project.
Metaphors and responses aside, what 1 thing can I do immediately to improve the codex experience? Let’s pick 1, and talk about it, and make a decision on what to do about it.

@mercime
ParticipantYou cannot delete the call to footer.php in the template file as you’re now missing the closing tags for the containers for some divs, article, as well as closing body and hmtl tags.
1. Let’s go back to deleting the 6 folders.
2. Then Re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.
3. Then upload the header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php as I have instructed in this post https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/buddypress-issue/
4. Then STOP and post here so I can see what’s wrong. Do not remove anything as it might just be a matter of adding a style or so in your themes’ style.css fileNovember 19, 2012 at 6:37 pm #145332@mercime
ParticipantThanks @djpaul as @hnla noted above and @modemlooper seconded, we do need to conduct Codex audits – one from Users perspective and the other for Developer’s.
In that vein, I suggest we have leads for both Users’ and Developers section and create a new Group Forum for the BP Codex Group here e.g. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-codex/. Work together on the audit, then post what pages need to be created, updated, archived, etc. and create call to action for volunteers/group members to own the page/s which can be reviewed later on. I’m willing to help lead the User’s section and also work on codex pages for Theme Development.

ParticipantKraigg, look closely at my code.
`created_group,new_forum_topic,new_forum_reply`
The code I originally had works andI tried to modify mine to include your forum and topic strings. In other words, I never used my code to include forum and topics so you’ll have to look into your database and find the action that is saved when a new topic and forum is created.
It could be `created_forum` – I don’t know but I’ll look into it.

Participant@mercime we fix the problem, it was in some php if clause.
But now there is another problem with adding topics in group forums. It is enabled for all groups but when we create an topic within the group it shows an error something like this: error while creating a topic and no topic was added to and we can only see that description in the activity page
EXAMPLE ON:

FOR->
“U?ilica otvorio/la temu foruma u grupi Logo grupeMatematika za 5.razred 43 minuta prije
