Participanti’m not sure (i’d really need more info from you and the steps, data entered into a post reply, raw db data for the post content, etc)… the only common filter is
group_forum_post_text_before_savein which this plugin replaces the bbcode with html before db insert.looking at tweetstream and the function
tweetstream_topicReplyandtweetstream_twitterItthat pushes out to twitter – maybe it is not escaping properly.twitter revoked my api access for using tweetstream – so not something i can test out.
—
I did notice one thing tweetstream sets the _before_save filter at priority 9 – where as bbcode is at priority 11. And it looks like tweatstream only sends the topic_title content (something i’m not filtering on at all)

ParticipantIn fairness I guess that this post on this thread wasn’t too helpful and got a lot of hopes up especially given the implied timelines and nearness of completion:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/most-effective-events-plugin
Great News! Heard back from Erwin re bp-events and he authorized me to post an update (quoted)
I am working with Dave Aubin to make bp-events work with 1.2,
including the new templates. That is just days away (I hope), then
I turn the code over to Sven who has been working on integrating the
excellent jQuery plugin FullCalendar (and has the code ready to go)
once I hand over the bp-events 1.2 code.
I tell you, working with the new template system without any
documentation has been quite the chore as I am sure you know as well.
Once that is all working I will release a preliminary version
and work on some additional features/widgets.
So, I hope bp-events 1.2 comes out within a month of the
official bp 1.2 came out, so in all, not too bad!
BP 1.2 was released on Feb 16th so I think it’s safe to ball-park a working copy around mid march, by his estimation. Suffice to say I am fired up.

ParticipantTaking a forum analogy Groups could be analogous to being the sub forums such as those we have on CSSCreator it is a forum but within that forum we have sub forums labeled ‘Beginners CSS’, ‘Layouts & styling’ etc so these are in fact BP groups and in the forum analogy you do not need to join that sub forum to post to it and as you state you do not need to join BP groups either to post to their forum.
This *Sub-Groups” taxonomy is something I would find useful in BP – (actually would close the door on the whole “normal forums thing”) – group tags is not the perfect solution as I’d like to have inherited properties of the subgroups. Also a support forum while generic is helpful to be disassociated with a group – i think the activity stream, members, etc is too much when a member of a community just wants resolution to an issue with the site, product, whatever-is-being-offered. (my experience is moderating a 500k+ userbase traditional forum with 1k+ subforums arranged in hierarchy state)
but if i can have my cake and eat it too – i think subforums within a group would be the bee’s knees too

Participant<snip>so I can silence this discussion
that’s a bit dictatorial isn’t it, but it is your project
So Andy hows this for a different analogy in reference to the assertion about forums/groups and the deanjrobinson link you refer to now and again.
Taking a forum analogy Groups could be analogous to being the sub forums such as those we have on CSSCreator it is a forum but within that forum we have sub forums labeled ‘Beginners CSS’, ‘Layouts & styling’ etc so these are in fact BP groups and in the forum analogy you do not need to join that sub forum to post to it and as you state you do not need to join BP groups either to post to their forum.
This does raise the issue though why do we have that ‘Join A Group’ capability is there actually a point to that feature? Naturally I accept that I may be overlooking the reason?

Hugo Ashmore
ParticipantChaps I think the OP does actually make reference to understanding the essential difference between WP & WPMU
The question asked is whether there is some OTHER reason one is better over another apart from multiple user blogs, and I believe the answer to this question is no! BP runs just as happily on standard WP as it does on WPMU with the only real difference being no user created blogs just Groups and group forums and the one master site blog?
Andy is best placed to answer this though.

Participant@ Andy
The fact that the forum is grouped/linked in with the groups already make it a whole lot different then a standard old fashioned forum with subforums. The forums on that deanjrobinson site are still not like an old fashioned forum.

KeymasterI can’t wait to get the new buddypress.org forums up on this site so I can silence this discussion. Please people — you need to understand that there is no difference here, it’s just how it is displayed. You do not need to join a group to post in a public group forum.

I tuned my bbpress already to have avatars, names, profiles of buddypress.

ParticipantAjax quote’s working nicely, but I do have a bug report.
Looks like activating the BuddyPress Forums Extras wrapper makes clicking on the Groups navigation tab redirect me to the home (activity stream, in my case) page. The link is correct (ie /groups), but it just redirects home.
Navigating directly to a group page (ie /groups/groupname) is OK. Just the top level not going.
All other nav items are OK, except the one for Links from MrMaz’s BP-Links plugin, which does the same. Odd.
Disable the wrapper, and navigation is OK again.

ParticipantOK – I think I have it working, but when any of the buddy press pages are enetered it takes over the whole template, all the widget columns are removed and the buddypress theme takes up all of the space right up to the very edge of the website. There is no padding for the buddypress pages and it looks a little wierd.
Also, is the forum available for the version ?
Any ideas?

Participant+1 for an option for forums without groups. I have a client who wants to move to BuddyPress, but he (reasonably) fears that groups would confuse his users.

Participanthere is the javascript that updates the textarea, maybe tinymce renames/overwrites it? i’m not sure. i’ll install it and see if it is anything simple
ok, tried it out – it won’t work as tinymce is some iframe whatever stuff.

though, i do have markitup on bbpress with ajax quote – works with no problems

ParticipantBuddyPress Forums Extras – ShortCodes -> will retain the bbcode style markup when editing. You could use Viper BBCode shortcode set and then modify that to include more bbcodes rules
As for font color – i just realized it is not in the allowed_tags list – i’ll add it in for the BBCode (noshortcode) and Signatures

ParticipantHey @etiviti,
I’ve been putting the Buddypress Group Forum Extras on http://www.x-3dfx.com
after messing and modding a little bit I have some questions.
The bbcode for [color] doesn’t work, so I modded the bbcode plugin to support this, This now works.
(Shown here : http://www.x-3dfx.com/groups/off-topic/forum/topic/sexy-new-look/#post-63 )
Next “BuddyPress Forums Extras – BBCode (noshortcode)” enabled
After posting something with bbshort codes and then going to edit this becomes HTML due to this plugin, Is this correct? As this conversion is not needed due to the bbcode pluging running as well.
Now if this is intended could there be an option to turn the conversion off, (I’ve modded the php file manually to stop doing it as I like the bbcode _ck_ buttons it adds but didn’t like the back to HMTL it was doing…)
also the HTML it was doing is breaking the color codes anyway for some reason. – they didn’t work when displayed but showed correct as <font color=””> when editing…

still giving
ParticipantDJPaul … without wishing to cause offence,
it is not that we “do not understand the BuddyPress Groups concept”, it is that we don’t think it is a good idea.
Most of us think it is a much better idea to have the ability to have a general forum, or general forums, that all members can use without having to join a group.
