This doesn’t require buddypress (should be posted on wpmu forum than here). Detailed methods should be available online, such as wpmututorials.com

You need to do the tasks seperately. First make a new user, second make the blog with the newly registered user’s mail address.

I was trying to get forums like this: https://buddypress.org/forums/

So theres no way to get forums like https://buddypress.org/forums/ without designing it into the theme eh?

oof – not up to deep integration right now, took forever to get this site live!

    so..

I did some edits in the templates for both the user and the forums, and it now fits much better- i really like the newer userpage,

    http://successiqu.com/members/larrytyler/

see i got the avatar down in the profile section istead of taking up a column by itself –

for the groups/forums i took the large avatar out and moved everything up

and if you still want to keep the default BP forums, you can apply permission like here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/disallow-ordinary-users-to-create-groups so just the admin can create groups, and you simply use your admin level to create these groups, and have the first group to host all the forums, making only account #1 the forum manager, showing all the forums at the same place… that’s what i plan on doing… :)

    Catherine-

Are looking to have a sitewide forum instead of group-based forums? If so, read my response in this thread:

I am not unhappy with my integration – I just would like a more standard forum, everything is so tight into the groups – i guess i could just make a custom forum template without the optionsbar

yeah, the actual css/templates of BP are crap to integrate, you will have to edit most of the elements if you want them to look standard. that’s why i switched from a real pro theme to a basic BP theme with no style…

the complain could go to the designer who made the “default” skeleton way too complicated at first… ;)

the only themes that are really easy to manipulate are these 3: http://premium.wpmudev.org/themes/ … had to pay to access them, but i’m happy with the result…

Hi @ all, I build the Seo for Buddypress plugin.

When I saw this discussion, I decided to write an article about Seo.

(Sorry for my terrible English, I hope I will be able to bring my thinking on the point.)

First of all, Search-Engine-Optimization and Link-marketing is hart and long work.

If you aspect to do nothing and become a good ranking and search results,

    forget about it.

The way google ranks content of a website is not explained in a small forum article.

But I will try to explain you the most important.

Seo is marketing ! Most keyword marketing.

So you need to have harmony between your Title, Meta Description and the Content of the page.

A clear title (for human understandable) and a real description, where the Keywords also are used in a understandable sentence.

Google knows English and many other languages. And it can realise if you wrote a real sentence, which is unique in a way and has something to do with the content of the page.

If your Title, Your Meta Description, Your Keywords (not so important any more)

are filed in correct, and the main keywords are in the title and the description and comes back in the content of the page, than google knows that this content is real and has something to say.

Google does not like generated titles and descriptions with no sense.

Or even just copying the content from the website in the description is not the way google like. Also google do not like if your description looks similar all over your site.

    For example:

If we looking at the Profile Page.

If you always have the sentence:

This is a profile page from my social network for pet lovers.

Google will find this sentence with every users profile on your site.

So if you have 10 members, Google will have 10 times the same sentence.

Google won’t find this sentence attractive. It will think all your member pages are not interesting and will mark your site with duplicate description.

This will be very bad for you!

If you would write a user name in:

This is a profile page from “name”, one user of my social network for pet lovers, google would like this more.

But still the sentence is to similar. Just one word has changed.

All the other look the same. In the end google will mark your site with duplicate description

    again.

So if you would have a sentence like this:

This is “name” profile page he has a “ped”. He likes “Interests”. He comes from “…” and is looking for “…”

Google would love every user profile.

Every body has different ped’s, hobby’s, comes from different places and so on.

In this fact google would mark your profile pages as made from a human.

    This is real Search-Engine-Optimization

You see what I want to explain.

Title, Meta Description and Content must be meaningful!

For this I build the Plugin.

It gives you the possibility to make a unique meaningful Title, Meta description and keywords-marketing for all sites and parts of your Social Network.

For this you have to think about every part of your website to feed the needs.

The special tags in the plugin for example group-name, user-name, event-name are your place holders to create descriptions from your content.

This plugin is in an early state.

    0.6.6

Buddypress changed allot in the last versions, and I had enough to do to keep it working.

In the next versions I will add all the special tags, who are needed.

If all the special tags are added, I will make a global configuration.

That means If you install the plugin, a most common Seo optimization will be there.

And the Special Tags will be used by default.

Then you have your full automatic Seo optimization.

But this would be never so effective, as doing it properly by hand for every part.

At the moment, buddypress does not add descriptions and keywords at all.

So if you use the plugin and have static descriptions because of the missing special tags in this early state, don’t worry.

Its still better to have a description then have no at all.

There are many other thinks I will integrate in the Plugin in the future, xml sitemap for all buddypress sites, alt tags for images and much more…

Also I will write some more articles about Search-Engine-Optimization. If needed.

I’m looking forward to BP-tricks.com from Bowe. Maybe I will have the chance to go deeper in Search-Engine-Optimization there.

I hope I could make thinks more clear!

Well if I use the bbopress in buddypress for new installation, HOW do I add forum sections?

    You can’t add forum sections.

BuddyPress forums are tied to groups. So you’ll have to create new groups with forums in order to emulate forum sections.

If you’re trying to setup BuddyPress forums to be like this:

    http://testbp.org/forums

Remove bbPress and reinstall BuddyPress. This time, follow these instructions:

    https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/

Specifically the “Setting Up Forums” section.

If you plan on using a separate install of bbPress, you’ll need to theme it.

No way around this I’m afraid.

You could use Manoj Kumar’s BuddyPress theme for bbPress to get a similar looking BP feel:

    http://manojkumar.org/buddypress-theme-for-bbpress/

    Hope that helps!

Standard bbpress installations have their own admin panel. Since bbpress is actually a totally seperate software it just has a nice extra that it can intergrate with wordpress. So if you installed it manually and did not use the already made bbpress in buddypress, then you can make and administrate your bbpress from its admin panel. If you used the bbpress in buddypress then you won’t have a handy admin panel.

Ok, i just chose use existing installation and its the correct address. But I still dont see ANY forum options to add the forums and etc. Do I have to have a plugin in the mu-plugins or something?

    hmmmm…..wait did I skrew up by not putting /buddypress into /MU-Plugins ?? I placed it in /plugins.

    Hey Vividbreeze,

What are you trying to do?

I’m guessing you want to use BuddyPress’ embedded bbPress forums like this:

    http://testbp.org/forums

If so, go into your WPMU admin area, and under “BuddyPress > Forums setup” and select ““Set up a new bbPress installation”.

If you’re trying to integrate a separate bbPress install, reply back and let us know.

Maybe over here (where I skim), but not in the MU forums. :D Good to know tho.

    Hi,

    @djpaul
    – sorry didn’t mean to be giving bad advice just trying to give a heads up to a possible symptom/solution for frustrated folks to investigate.

the symptoms of my problem were the same as outlined in the initial post. My operating setup seems very similar to @kkemenczy and @duna1921

(On the logic that every server setup is different – which I appreciate is true, everyone seeking help – even on the same problem would need to start a dedicated forum topic?)

I have been searching for a solution for weeks – following all the advice from many threads on these and other forums. I have re-installed many times, checked .htaccess, php.ini memory, ensured mod_rewrite is working… just trying to help by posting my findings.

If it wasn’t obvious, for every person who reports a problem, we need this information. Saying that you have the “same problem” is possible but unlikely.

If BP didn’t create its tables on activation, delete everything and try again — in a totally clean database (if only for testing purposes) with new files. Jeff’s elaborated on this point above. Something must have done to stop the install scripts running correctly; either a mistake on your part or an error on your server. Quite possibly if you are trying to use WPMU/BP on a virtual hosted server, you are going to quickly exceed memory and execution limits.

Manually installing the BuddyPress tables is only putting a band-aid over whatever the source of your original problem is; most likely that problem will bite you later.

    Hi all,

I am also having the same problem and I am short on time with my project. I told my client I could offer him a better site for his money, and I am stuck with this problem. I have checked my database and cant find any tables for buddypress there. It is a fresh install of BP 1.1.2 on WPMU 2.8.5.2. I have tried the htaccess modifications – no change. I have reinstalled both WPMU and buddypress severally with the same problem of blank page. My webhost is hostforweb.

@chrisk2020 I was wondering how I could get to install the database manually. I don’t have a previous install.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for the continued support by the buddypress dev team and everyone in this forum.
