ParticipantI really do appreciate all the work you do. I’m just really frustrated with the lack of synchronization and consistency between Buddypress xprofile and WordPress users/usermeta etc. Automattic needs to take a serious look at member management.
FYI, here’s the response from the WPMU forum:
Because if a spammer signs up, for instance, and you delete their username and blogs, if their registration member is also deleted, then they can sign up again.
I’m not satisfied with that answer. There must be cleaner ways to block/blacklist spammers.
Isn’t there a plugin that deletes users more thoroughly?

KeymasterI wish I had a job writing software! You don’t want to know what I do 9 to 5, haha! el_terko is correct. Andy Peatling works for Automattic on BuddyPress. Sam Bauers develops bbPress.
The moderators on this forum are Andy and: Burt Adsit, Trent Adams, Nicola Greco, Jeff Sayre, John James Jacoby and Paul Gibbs (me!). I think we did something bad in a previous incarnation and this is punishment

Participantthis issue is also mentioned by another person at the german-language-Forum of http://www.buddypress.de
So we are not the only ones having this issue….

ParticipantThere is some discussion about turning Manoj’s photo album plugin into an overall media manager. I’m not sure if he is actively considering this idea or not. You could contact him and find out.

peterverkooijen
ParticipantYes.
But I want only Username or only Name.
Or why not Username and Name is same.
Thank you
I still want to figure out a way to autogenerate the username from the name; full name with spaces stripped, all lower case.
I know it’s doable with simple PHP code, that I may have used before somewhere – have to dig through my older sites. But where/how could I insert that into the registration process? Would that have to be a plugin? Any pointers appreciated.

ParticipantMost of the welcome message sent to new registered users is hardcoded within WPMU. Here are a few links to get you on your way:

KeymasterDon’t run a public site on trunk? I mean, I have a local development installation of trunk but to run that publicly…
The most recent trunk entirely changes the way the forums component is integrated into BuddyPress, which is why you are getting these problems.

ParticipantWhat’s interesting is that I just updated everything to the most recent trunk and that broke the deep integration of the forums. After hunting around a bit, I found that the forum integration in the trunk blocks direct access to the forums. As such I disabled the forum integration part of bp and now it works. Annoying actually, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

KeymasterGood question.
Has anyone over on the bbPress forums experienced a similar thing when upgrading from 0.9 -> 1.0+, while integrating WP(MU)?

KeymasterBy “post”, what do you mean exactly?
A BuddyPress forum post, or just a regular blog post?
If it’s a blog post, I’m quite certain a WordPress plugin can handle that.

KeymasterI would also recommend checking out the WPMU forums (if you haven’t already, Roy!), as this seems more appropriate there.

KeymasterThe “Favorite Topics” functionality was broken when the BuddyPress forums changed the permalink structure from ID to pretty permalinks (I’m speculating, but I think I’m right).
The groups hyperlink is a known bug as well.

Korhan Ekinci
ParticipantMaybe this problem is also connected with this:
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/sigh-integration-cookie-problem-for-all-users-except-admin
since you have a capital letter in your username and groups are connected with bbpress
I am not sure though
July 22, 2009 at 6:28 pm #49804Korhan Ekinci
ParticipantOk, I did lots of tests and Reboot Now, I have exact the exact same problem. User names with a capital letter in it cannot post a forum post!!!
Here is the interesting part:
When the user with any capital letter in username logsin from the homepage and goes to forum pages he/she cannot post! When he/she logsin from the forum page, he/she can post!

KeymasterHi fangonk,
If you scrolled a little bit down, you would have seen this thread!
https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/remove-image-upload-option-from-signup-only
It’s a simple fix that uses CSS to hide the avatar fields on the registration page.

ParticipantMy users had “no role on these forums” until I installed some bbPress plugin that fixed this (by giving them the “member” role automatically – before that I had to it by hand). Are you sure this is not the case?
July 22, 2009 at 3:29 pm #49795Greg
ParticipantUPDATE: it really is about the caps. For user_nicename “reboot”…
– user_login = rebootzzz CAN post
– user_login = rebootZZZ can NOT post
– user_login = Reboot can NOT post
I have started a thread on the bbPress support forum too.

ParticipantAlso, I would like to mention that, when I go to the forum page and login, I get page not found error but when I refresh it I am logged in!?! This only happens in the home page of the forum. Loging in other forum pages don’t give this error. How can this be solved?
July 22, 2009 at 2:19 pm #49790Greg
Participantkorhanekinci, yes, I did add those four lines that the bbPress Integration plugin suggested.
I also defined WP_AUTH_COOKIE_VERSION. Without this line the cookie integration doesn’t work at all.
Like I mentioned above, my current clue is that only users who have NO caps in their “login_name” (field in the wp_users table) can post on the forum.
Now, WPMU strips caps from the username when people register, but I have bbPress users that pre-dated the WPMU integration and they do have caps in their login_name.
One other datapoint to add: I tried a standalone installation of bbPress 1.0.1 and it doesn’t have this problem. Users with caps in “login-name” can post fine.

ParticipantWhen you login the forum page as a member, posting is ok. But not ok, when you login bp and move to bbpress.
July 22, 2009 at 1:25 pm #49785Korhan Ekinci
ParticipantI have the same problem! I have bp 1.0.3 and bbpress 1.0.1. There is deep integration as well, use bbpress-integration plugin.
As reboot now says: *everything* works except posting on the forum (only admin can post to the forum). No errors, after posting I am returned to the forum home page and nothing is posted!!!
It used to work fine, but after I upgraded wpmu to 2.8.1 and bp to 1.0.3, it stopped working
July 22, 2009 at 5:27 am #49768Greg
ParticipantAs far as I can see, *everything* works except posting on the forum (only admin can post to the forum).
– logging in and out to both forum and bp
– sending messages
– commenting on the blog
– modifying the profile
I have looked at the cookies in FF and can’t see anything obvious wrong.
I will upload the files again. Don’t think I’ve changed anything in there, but worth a try.

Stupidism
ParticipantI still don’t get why when I go to domain.tld/home the members link lights up (in the BuddyPress Home Theme). And how do I make the community WordPress Page appear instead of a page listing the folders inside the community folder (forums).
